UFC President Dana White would be ‘blown away’ if the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) didn’t license new light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

“He didn’t do anything wrong,” White told reporters after UFC 232. “I don’t know what to expect, but I would be blown away if they didn’t give him a license to fight in Nevada. It makes no sense – it makes no sense at all.”

A United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA) drug test yielded an ‘atypical’ result from Jones collected on Dec. 9. Due to the finding Las Vegas. Commission chair Anthony Marnell and executive director Bob Bennett wanted to convene a hearing before making a final decision on Jones’ licensing.

Although White is a known risk taker even he could not potentially risk the fate of UFC 232 on a hearing. Thus, he opted to relocate UFC 232 on just six days notice.

“They could’ve done (a hearing) on Friday (of fight week),” White said after UFC 232. “I’m a degenerate gambler, but I ain’t that much of a gambler. I wasn’t willing to risk that. If I have an ace and the dealer has an ace, I’m taking even money. I’m taking even money all day. So we moved the thing to California.”

White did make it a point to mention that Nevada did not block the move to California, which they could have requested. Despite that many fans and MMA media personalities had harsh words for the promotion.

In the long run, the most important thing for the UFC is getting him reinstated in Nevada. If the scince proves him not to be a cheat that would be a big plus for the promotion as well.

Alexander Gustafsson got his second chance at Jon Jones over the weekend (Sat. December 29, 2018). Unfortunately, the Swede came up short against arguably the greatest fighter of all-time.

Gustafsson was finished in the third-round by “Bones” via TKO, after some vicious ground-and-pound following a Jones takedown. When questioned about his future at 205 pounds following the defeat, “The Mauler” confirmed a run at heavyweight isn’t out of the question (via MMAjunkie):

“Yeah, of course,” Gustafsson said. “The heavyweight division is also an alternative. I’m here to fight, either if it’s at light heavy or heavy. I have to talk to my coaches and see what’s next.”

This was Gustafsson’s third failed attempt at a light heavyweight title. His first came against Jones back in 2013. He was defeated via unanimous decision after a closely contended five-round contest. Two years later, Gustafsson got another title shot. This time against Daniel Cormier. In yet another razor-close bout, Gustafsson was defeated via split decision.

And finally, his third shot against “Bones” in California on Saturday again didn’t go his way. After three failed title bids, perhaps a change of weight class is needed for the 31-year-old.

Should he decide to challenge for the heavyweight throne, that division is currently run by a man who has already defeated him – Cormier. It would certainly be an interesting match-up to see at heavyweight as opposed to 205 pounds.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones’ legacy has been brought into question in recent years.

Jones has had several run-ins with the law outside the Octagon, as well as the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) while in competition. However, he overcame all those obstacles to return this past weekend (Sat. December 28, 2018) at UFC 232 on pay-per-view (PPV). Jones defeated Alexander Gustafsson to win the vacant 205-pound title.

After the fight, boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. spoke to media about UFC 232. Jones Jr. was in attendance after announcing his boxing promotion will be streaming fights on UFC Fight Pass in 2019. In regards to Jones, the former cruiserweight champion said he doesn’t think anything will taint the true legacy of “Bones” (via MMAjunkie):

“Nothing will taint the true legacy of who Jon Jones is,” he said. “People always (ask), ‘You think the steroids taint their image?’

“I don’t think it taints their image, because if steroids made that much difference, anybody could be that good if they just used steroids. Everybody that does it don’t be that good. Even in the fights (Jones) passed the tests on, he was still that good.”

Prior to UFC 232, Jones found himself in another debacle with USADA. He turned in a drug test which tested positive for banned substances yet again. However, it turns out the substances were the same metabolites that Jones was suspended for last year. Jones was allowed to stay on the card, but not without issue.

UFC 232 was originally set to be held from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, due to Jones’ abnormality, the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) could not license Jones in time for the fight.

As a result, the fight was moved to California after the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) granted Jones a license to fight.

After all was said and done, Cris Cyborg weighed less than five pounds more than Amanda Nunes at UFC 232.

It was 4.5 pounds to be exact. That’s how much more Cyborg weighted than Nunes on fight day. Although that’s not the 15 pounds some fans thought Cyborg may have on Nunes, it’s still a significant amount.

The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) is at the forefront of innovations as it comes to weight management in MMA. One of the procedures they instituted is a fight day weigh-in – which requires fighters to weigh no more than 10 percent of their weigh-in weights.

For example, Nunes tipped the scales at 145 pounds. She then weighed in at 156 pounds on fight day. Thats a total weight gain of 7.6%, well under the 10% rule. For comparision, Cyborg weighed in at 144 pounds and on fight day rehydrated back up to 160.5 pounds. Thats 10.7%.

The number-one goal for such a program is to deter extreme weight cutting.
Any fighter who breaks the 10 percent mark could be faced with a recommendation from CSAC to compete at a higher weight.

Here’s a look at all the before and after weights from the UFC 232 competitors (courtesy of MMA Fighting). Notice that Montel Jackson and Alexander Volkanovski came in as high as 14 percent, while
Douglas Silva de Andrade came in at 13.6 percent.
