UFC 269 Weigh-In Results

Before the weigh-ins even kicked off, there were two cancellations to the UFC 270 lineup, including one main card bout.

Eurosport España broke the news that Ilia Topuria was out of his fight against Charles Jourdain after not being medically cleared to compete. This comes after Jourdain was selected to replace Movsar Evloev after Evlowev contracted COVID-19.

ESPN Deportes also reported that the main card bout between Rodolfo Vieira and Wellington Turman was canceled due to Vieira withdrawing due to undisclosed reasons.

Outside of those two cancellations, every fighter who took to the scales successfully made weight, including Deiveson Figueiredo, who was second up to the scales with weight issues of the past seeming to be in the rearview.

Prior to Figueiredo’s entrance, the first fighter up to the scales was the flyweight champion, Brandon Moreno.

Also of note is the champion Francis Ngannou coming in 10 pounds heavier than Ciryl Gane ahead of their unification bout. Check out how the main eventers looked on the scales down below.

Ngannou Believes The UFC Is Responsible For Gane Being The Betting Favorite

Ciryl Gane, Francis Ngannou

Francis Ngannou is blaming the UFC for the betting odds on his upcoming main event against Ciryl Gane.

UFC 270 is just one day away and it will be headlined by a massive heavyweight title unification fight. Champion Francis Ngannou will be taking on his former training partner, interim champion Ciryl Gane. leading up to this fight the betting odds are swinging in favor of Gane, who is currently a very small betting favorite at around -120.

Ngannou disagrees with this line and is blaming the UFC’s hard push on Gane as the reason.

“Well, usually, I don’t look (at) those stuff, and I don’t care about it because the first time that I lost against Stipe, I was the favorite, by far the favorite,” Ngannou said in an interview with Max Kerllerman on ESPN’s This Just In. “And it didn’t go (my way). So those doesn’t matter much.

“And honestly, I think right here, the reason is just because in the past month, they’ve been doing everything to promote him and technically, I would say dispromote me. And people cannot sleep on my performance and forget about me.”

There has been a rough relationship between Ngannou and the UFC ever since he won the title. Just months after he was crowned that champion, the UFC set up an interim title fight.

Following that, there have been some contract negotiation issues that have placed Ngannou’s post-UFC 270 status in question. Although Dana White has been doing his best to downplay the severity of the disagreement, Ngannou still seems unhappy and could possibly leave the UFC with a loss on Saturday night. If he were to win, however, the ball would be in his court and perhaps he could get what he wants.

Brandon Moreno: It’ll Be Nice To Send Figueiredo To The 135lb Division

Brandon Moreno Deiveson Figueiredo

Brandon Moreno is looking to send Deiveson Figueiredo packing.

A flyweight title fight is set for the co-main event of UFC 270 this Saturday night. Champion Brandon Moreno will be looking to defeat former champion Deiveson Figueiredo and hopefully put this feud behind him. This fight will be the third time these two have fought consecutively, and Moreno is hoping the third time is a charm and he can finally move past this opponent and continue defending his title against the rest of the 125 pound division.

The first time these two fought each other the bout ended in a majority draw in which Figueiredo kept the title. The second time Moreno won decisively with a third-round submission. The UFC surprisingly decided to run this back for a third time immediately.

The fight could have never been made at all because there were rumblings of Figueiredo moving to bantamweight after the loss and brutal weight cut prior to UFC 263. Moreno was surprised to learn this but remains willing to help Figueiredo with the move this Saturday.

“Yes, at first I was a little bit surprised, but at the end of the day, the first fight was incredible, second fight was total domination, but maybe the trilogy can be nice to finish the job in the third fight and put Deiveson in the 135-pound division,” Moreno told MMA Fighting.

Figueiredo has been teasing a move to bantamweight. He has historically had a difficult time making the 125-pound limit in his time at flyweight. For his first title fight against Joeseph Benavidez, Figueiredo missed weight and although he was victorious, he was unable to win the belt due to missing weight.

If he loses to Moreno once again, he might have an easier time gaining another title shot if he does make the jump up ten pounds, at least as long as Moreno is on top.

Do you think Deiveson Figueiredo will leave the flyweight division with a loss at UFC 270?

Francis Ngannou, Ciryl Gane

UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou and interim champ Ciryl Gane shared quite the face-off ahead of their matchup at UFC 270.

Ngannou and Gane will fight in one of the most consequential heavyweight bouts in UFC history at UFC 270. The two former training partners will unify the heavyweight title as Ngannou makes his first title defense.

The two fighters also have some of the most elite striking in the UFC, with the matchup featuring a prototypical power vs. technical standup.

While there isn’t bad blood between the two fighters themselves, coaches have gotten involved in the mix mostly due to Ngannou’s tense relationship with former coach Fernand Lopez. The two have gone back and forth in a series of interviews and press obligations.

Fans filled the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA for the UFC 270 pre-fight press conference to get an early glimpse of the two gigantic heavyweights.

Watch Francis Ngannou, Ciryl Gane Face Off At The UFC 270 Press Conference

Ngannou earned the heavyweight title by getting revenge against Stipe Miocic at UFC 260 last year. After it was expected that he would face Jon Jones next, he and the UFC couldn’t come to terms and the promotion ended up holding an interim title fight.

Gane would get his chance after impressive wins over Alexander Volkov, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, and Junior dos Santos. He would go on to demolish Derrick Lewis at UFC 265 for the interim belt.

The winner will more than likely face Jones next and etch their name into the UFC history books. Chances are the fight won’t go the full five-round distance, as both fighters have finished most of their wins.

Ngannou and Gane appear ready for the challenge this weekend as UFC 270 is just days away.

Dana White Questions Francis Ngannou’s Focus Ahead Of UFC 270

Dana White, Francis Ngannou

UFC president Dana White is concerned with UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou’s recent comments about boxing, ahead of his showdown with Ciryl Gane at UFC 270.

Ngannou will make his first heavyweight title defense against his former MMA Factory teammate Gane. It is arguably the most highly-anticipated heavyweight matchup in UFC history and features two of the most skilled athletes in the sport.

Despite the massive fight, various topics have come to the surface outside of the bout itself. Gane and his head coach have brought up the topic of sparring sessions, while Ngannou has alluded to a possible move to boxing to fight Tyson Fury.

During a recent interview on The Jim Rome Show, White questioned Ngannou’s motivation heading into UFC 270.

Dana White Isn’t Sure If Francis Ngannou Is Mentally Invested In UFC 270

“You’re talking about you don’t want to fight under your contract, you’re talking about – he gets a piece of pay-per-view, whatever we sell, like all the other champions do,” White said. “You’re worried about all these other things, ‘I want to box Tyson Fury, I want to do this, I want to do that.’ You’re the underdog on Saturday night. You’re not some huge 10 to one favorite, and you want to move on. Focus on (this): beat Ciryl Gane. Win this fight, then you can start talking about the possibility of other things.”

White and Ngannou haven’t seen eye to eye for quite some time, but things have become tense since he first earned the heavyweight title. He’s requested more money and negotiations with the UFC brass have remained stagnant ahead of UFC 270.

If Ngannou is able to put on an impressive performance against Gane, he would almost certainly get a new contract with the promotion. But, a defeat could make things unclear in negotiations, and the UFC may ultimately choose to move on.

What is your prediction for UFC 270?
