Dustin Poirier, Michael Chandler

Former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier called out Michael Chandler for not mentioning his name as his next opponent.

In one of the most brutal knockouts ever, Chandler landed a front kick right to Tony Ferguson’s face, becoming the first man to put ‘El Cucuy’ to sleep. As impressive as his strike was, Chandler doubled down on his performance with one of the most hyped post-fight interviews in the UFC.

‘Iron’ Mike called out for a match against the winner of Charles Oliveira vs. Justin Gaethje for the vacant lightweight championship. He didn’t stop there as he proposed a fight against Conor McGregor in his return to action as an alternative. McGregor has been in recovery after breaking his leg in his last outing against Poirier last July.

‘The Notorious’ has gained a significant amount of weight during his time off with an expected return at welterweight. Chandler even offered to compete against McGregor at 170 lbs if that’s what it takes to secure the fight.

However, one man who wasn’t happy at the omission of his name by Chandler is Dustin Poirier who took to Twitter to call out the 36-year-old for not mentioning him as a possible next opponent.

“A lot of names being said by Iron Michelangelo but I’m not hearing mine. Respectfully”

What’s next for Dustin Poirier & Michael Chandler

Poirier has been on the sidelines for this year after losing out to Charles Oliveira in his last outing the previous December. As a former multi-time title challenger, ‘Diamond’ shares one common opponent with Michael Chandler. ‘Iron’ Mike fought for the lightweight gold in an unsuccessful effort against Oliveira.

Having just challenged for the UFC lightweight title in his last appearance, it seems unlikely that Dustin Poirier will get an immediate shot at the strap in his next match. Following UFC 274, Michael Chandler has now fought two more times since his fight against Oliveira and may have gotten himself back in the mix of title contention with a win over Ferguson.

While he has made a case to fight for the vacant belt against ‘do Bronx’, it’s uncertain if he will get the opportunity by Dana White and Hunter Campbell. A showdown with ‘The Mystic Mac’ might be on the horizon down the line but for his next opponent, we’ll have to wait a bit longer.

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya seemingly dozed off during Rose Namajunas’s fight against Carla Esparza at UFC 274.

Israel Adesanya sleeps through the co-main event

Adesanya does not shy away from sharing his thoughts on his fellow athletes’ recent performances. Having been involved in a lackluster contest against Yoel Romero himself, ‘Stylebender’ weighed in on the relaxed match between Rose and Esparza.

In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Israel Adesanya reacted to the UFC 274 PPV card. The 32-year-old Nigerian kiwi kicked things off with the start of the main card. As he began to watch the co-main event, Adesanya struggled to keep himself up.

A brief video montage with somber music displays the middleweight king sleeping through the Namajunas-Esparza fight.

“It was a long blink. I was blinking slowly,” said Adesanya before a friend of his suggested that he was meditating.

Another from the group referenced Izzy’s snoozefest against Romero saying that UFC 274’s women’s title fight might overtake it as the “most boring championship fight”. Adesanya can be seen sleeping through the match before giving a sarcastic response, “I think that was a great fight.”

UFC 274: a Night of Historic Performances

This past Saturday night was electrifying with some historic performances. Michael Chandler became the first man to knockout Tony Ferguson when he landed a vicious front kick in the second round. For the main event, Charles Oliveira won the match against Justin Gaethje in one of the best rounds in the promotion’s history.

On a night full of excitement, the co-main event did not live up to the expectations of the fans. Rose Namajunas took on Carla Esparza in a slow-paced fight without any significant action throughout the five rounds. ‘Cookie Monster’ came out on top and took home the UFC women’s strawweight championship.

Although the card was originally scheduled to open with Donald Cerrone vs. Joe Lauzon, Randy Brown and Khaos Williams were given a promoted spot due to Cerrone’s withdrawal from the event. Adesanya praised Brown’s performance and had picked it as a ‘sleeper fight’ to watch out for.

Former undisputed UFC lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira managed to successfully land his eleventh straight victory at UFC 274 on Saturday against Justin Gaethje, however, Stockton favorite, Nate Diaz has claimed an “easy” submission victory awaits him if he ever fought the Brazilian.

Oliveira, who was slated to attempt the second defense of his undisputed lightweight title, was stripped of his crown on Friday following the weigh-ins, after he successfully made championship weight for his clash with Gaethje, tipping the scales at 155.5lbs.

Relinquishing the lightweight title upon the commencement of his headliner with Gaethje, Oliveira, still proved that he is the outlier within the division just over three minutes later, stopping the Arizona native on enemy territory with yet another rallying submission victory.

Credited with a single knockdown courtesy of an uppercut which caught the Brazilian coming in, Gaethje himself was dropped in an exchange with a right hand, before Oliveira immediately leapt to his back, searching for a slew of submission openings.

Failing to latch up with an armbar or reverse triangle, Gaethje, who attempted to get up from his knees, gave up his back, with Oliveira establishing hooks, securing a seatbelt and then locked up a rear-naked choke after adjusting his grip.

The win came as Oliveira’s staggering eleventh on the trot, as well as extending his lead as the most prolific finisher and submission artist in the history of the organization.

Warranting the attention of a slew of contenders in the wake of his win over Gaethje, Oliveira, who has been penned by UFC president, Dana White to challenge for vacant spoils next, was the subject of callouts from Islam Makhachev, Michael Chandler, Dustin Poirier, and Conor McGregor.

Nate Diaz fancies his chances of landing an upset submission win over Charles Oliveira

Amongst a slew of tweets last Sunday night, the above mentioned, Nate Diaz, who once challenged for undisputed lightweight gold back in December 2012, claimed that if paired with the Sao Paulo technician in the future, he would land his own straightforward submission success.

“Just for the record I’d choke Olivera (sic) (Charles Oliveira),” Nate Diaz tweeted. Easy.”

Tirelessly campaigning for either his immediate release from the UFC or the booking of his final contracted fight with the promotion, Diaz has been out of action since June of last year where he featured in the first five round, non-title, non-main event in the history of the promotion in a unanimous decision loss to Leon Edwards.

Finding himself continually linked with a welterweight outing against Khamzat Chimaev, Nate Diaz, who has called for some time now for a matchup with the aforenoted, Poirier – hinted at a welterweight division excursion on July 30. at the organization’s UFC 277 pay-per-view showcase.

Former interim UFC lightweight titleholder, Tony Ferguson has congratulated Michael Chandler on his shocking front kick knockout win over him at UFC 274 on Saturday night, maintaining that he was happy to be back in the Octagon and hungry to compete despite the devastating stoppage defeat.

Tony Ferguson, who made his first Octagon appearance in a year in his high-profile UFC 274 main card clash with Chandler, got off to a blistering start against his fellow veteran, scoring an opening round knockdown courtesy of a left hand.

Applying pressure and wobbling Chandler for the second time soon thereafter, Ferguson was taken down later in the first frame, as the former landed a series of heavy hands from the top, with Ferguson replying with his patented slicing elbows from the bottom.

Returning to his corner, himself, bloodied, albeit smiling, Ferguson would go on to suffer a shocking knockout loss just 17 seconds into the second round, with Chandler springing with a brutal front kick, knocking Oxnard favorite, Ferguson unconscious for the first time in his storied professional career.

Tony Ferguson returned a negative facial CT scan following his knockout loss to Michael Chandler

Requiring transportation to a medical facility following the brutal knockout loss, Ferguson managed to return a negative CT scan, and has since been discharged from a Phoenix hospital.

Issuing a congratulatory message to Chandler following the bout, Ferguson wished the Sanford MMA staple the best of luck in his next outing, as well as insisted he was still happy to return to active competition.

“Congratulations to @MikeChandlermMA on his victory at UFC 274,” Tony Ferguson tweeted. “Had lots of fun in there, you fans are f*ckin’ wild I love this sh*t! Feels good to be back & hungry again. We were just getting started. Best of luck in your next fight -champ #ForTheLoveOfTheGame -CSO- (American flag emoji) (trophy emoji) (Mexican flag emoji).”

The loss came as Ferguson’s fourth consecutively, after a prior May decision loss to Beneil Dariush, a December 2020 judging defeat to former champion, Charles Oliveira, and an April 2020 fifth round stoppage defeat against fellow former interim titleholder, Justin Gaethje.

UFC lightweight Tony Ferguson has released his first statement since being knocked out by Michael Chandler at this past weekend’s UFC 274 pay-per-view.

On Saturday night, Ferguson enter Phoenix’s Footprint Center hoping to snap his three-fight losing skid and rebound into contention. In his way of doing so was former Bellator champion Chandler, who had similar goals on fight night.

In the opening round, it looked like fans of “El Cucuy” were going to be left pleased. The former interim titleholder dropped “Iron” early on, but was unable to capitalize. As it turned out, that was to be Ferguson’s one and only opening.

17 seconds into the second frame, the #7-ranked lightweight was left unconscious and face down on the canvas courtesy of one of the most brutal KOs in UFC history. With an Anderson Silva-esque front kick, Chandler recorded his second Octagon victory and moved closer to another crack at holding gold on MMA’s biggest stage.

Thankfully, Ferguson suffered no significant damage and was released from hospital following a negative CT scan. He’s now reflected on the fight and commented on the loss in a post on Twitter.

Gracious in defeat, “El Cucuy” congratulated Chandler and wished him luck in his next outing.

“Congratulations to @MikeChandlerMMA On his victory at UFC 274. Had lots of fun in there, you fans are Fuckin’ wild I love this shit! Feels good to be back & hungry again. We were just getting started. Best Of Luck In Your Next Fight- Champ # ForTheLoveOfTheGame -CSO-“

While Chandler used his time on the mic post-fight to stake his claim for a title shot and call out former two-division champion Conor McGregor, the future is more uncertain for Ferguson.

With consecutive defeats to Justin Gaethje, Charles Oliveira, Beneil Dariush, and Chandler, the 38-year-old is a sizable step behind the elites at 155 pounds, and the manner of his latest setback has led many to ponder a potential retirement for the UFC legend.

What should be next for Tony Ferguson?

Rose Namajunas has apologized on social media following her lackluster split-decision loss to Carla Esparza at UFC 274.

The former strawweight champion took to her Instagram the day after losing the title to acknowledge her poor performance, but also gave credit to Esparza and thanked those that have supported her

“Sorry to everyone I fucked up definitely feel like a shitty human being but this will make me a better hats off to Carla and thanks to everyone who’s been there for me.”

Several fighters responded to Namajunas’s post with messages of support, including former strawweight queen Joanna J?drzejczyk.

“Don’t be sorry Champ! You don’t have to. It’s a tough business we’re in! Get some rest!! ?

J?drzejczyk defeated Esparza to claim the strawweight belt at UFC 185, but later lost the title to Namajunas in 2017 and came up short again in their 2018 rematch.

J?drzejczyk wasn’t the only former champion and Namajunas opponent to offer support. Jessica Andrade commented on the post with her own words of encouragement while also weighing in on the outcome of the bout.

“you are amazing, a true champion. this victory shouldn’t have gone to carla. I’m with you? ???

Andrade upset Namajunas to win the strawweight belt in their 2019 bout before losing to Zhang Weili in her first title defense. Namajunas was able to get the split-decision nod in the 2020 rematch with Andrade before going on to reclaim the strawweight belt with a first-round stoppage victory over Zhang.

This post from Namajunas is a notable departure from her previous comments in the immediate aftermath of the fight, where she indicated that the boos raining down from fans in Phoenix, AZ were directed at Esparza and that Rose felt she’d done enough to retain her title.

Previously undefeated in rematches during her career, “Thug” Rose is now 0-2 against Esparza. This decision loss comes seven years after her being submitted by Esparza in 2014 when the two women squared off in the finals of The Ultimate Fighter to crown the promotion’s inaugural strawweight champion.

While there’s been considerable discussion online about the scoring of the bout and no shortage of controversy regarding the decision, UFC President Dana White has already shared his thoughts on the possibility of a third fight between Esparza and Namajunas.

What do you think of Rose Namajunas’s most recent comments following her loss at UFC 274?
