Following their UFC Performance Institute run-in earlier this week, incoming UFC 279 headliner, Khamzat Chimaev has distanced himself from a potential fight with Paulo Costa in the future – once more mocking the Brazilian’s knockout loss to middleweight kingpin, Israel Adesanya.

Ahead of his first promotional headliner this weekend, Chimaev was engaged in a verbal back-and-forth with former middleweight title challenger, Costa at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas, Nevada – with the Chechen-born fighter’s entourage holding him back from a physical confrontation.

Off the back of their back-and-forth verbal battle, Costa claimed that Chimaev was a “fake gangster” and a “gourmet Chechen” – after the #3 ranked welterweight contender poked fun at his knockout loss to Adesanya back in 2020, as well as the controversial post-fight celebration Costa was subjected to, as Adesanya thrust his hips toward him.

Khamzat Chimaev again pokes fun at Paulo Costa’s KO loss to Israel Adesanya

Calling for a fight with Chimaev should the AllStars staple topple Nate Diaz this weekend, Costa’s offer appears to have been rebuffed by the former, who has questioned why he would share the Octagon with the Belo Horizonte native.

“Nothing (happened),” Khamzat Chimaev said of his confrontation with Paulo Costa during his media availability on Wednesday. “He was talking sh*t about me. I never talked about that guy, maybe once or something. He wants to be famous now. Israel (Adesanya) f*cked his ass. So what? All the world saw that sh*t. He has to to go back and do something easy.”

“Why [should I fight him]?” Khamzat Chimaev asked. “I don’t fight with that guy (Paulo Costa). Somebody already f*cked him up in the ass.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

In the midst of an 11 fight undefeated run during his professional career, Chimaev last defeated former welterweight title challenger, Gilbert Burns in a hard-fought unanimous decision win at UFC 273 back in April of this year.

As for Costa, the one-time title chaser returned to the winner’s enclosure last month at UFC 278 with a unanimous decision win of his own against former champion, Luke Rockhold – snapping a two-fight losing skid.

Ahead of his Octagon return this weekend at UFC 279, light heavyweight contender, Johnny Walker has revealed how he recently learned he has an allergy to both CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) – claiming how he was drugging himself each and every day for years, without knowing the effects his allergic reaction was having on him.

Walker, a native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – is slated to return to the Octagon this weekend against Moldovan contender, Ion Cutelaba, with the duo set to open the main card of UFC 279 at the T-Mobile Arena.

The 30-year-old, who plys his trade at Straight Blast Gym, enters this Saturday’s return against Cutelaba off the back of main event losses against compatriot, Thiago Santos, and a thunderous February knockout loss against Jamahal Hill.

Previewing his Octagon comeback this weekend, Walker revealed during his media availability that he had learned how he has an allergy to both CBD and THC, and unbeknownst to himself, consumption was having a negative impact on his life.

“It’s nothing against the CBD, it’s just myself, my brain, don’t react good,” Johnny Walker told assembled media. “Other people’s maybes, but my brain – maybe I have ADHD. Then when I hace the CBD, the CBD should calm me down. But the little per cent is good. Every CBD have a little bit of THC. The THC f*cked me up. I get paranoid, I don’t trust nobody, I get late for training, I don’t follow schedule. It f*cked my life.”

“I didn’t know that,” Johnny Walker explained. “I was drugging myself for the last three years and I didn’t notice. Now I know and I stopped talking. (Transcribed by MMA Junkie

Khamzat Chimaev Nate Diaz Israel Adesanya UFC 279

The UFC Middleweight World Champion Israel Adesanya had made his prediction for the UFC 279 main event between Nate Diaz and Khamzat Chimaev. After more than a decade in the organization, this will be Diaz’s final fight in the UFC.

‘The Last Stylebener’ did a breakdown for this welterweight bout on his YouTube channel, where he lamented on Diaz. The Nigerian-Kiwi fighter has been a fan of both of the Diaz brothers since he was a child. “Win, lose, or draw, it’s always a brawl,” he said and reflected on some of Diaz’s best moments in the Octagon. Including the triangle choke over Kurt Pellegrino, winning The Ultimate Fighter, and defeating PRIDE FC champion Takanori Gomi, among others.

Adesanya added that the UFC is maybe treating Diaz unkindly by feeding him to the undefeated Russian fighter ‘The Wolf’ Chimaev“After every fight, because he wants to fight everyone ‘I kill everybody,’ ” Adesanya continued, “I feel like they’re doing Nate wrong by trying to feed him this up-and-comer who’s just destroying everyone … It’s hard to finish Nate, but if someone could do it, it might be this guy.”

But ultimately, Adesanya picked Diaz to walk away from the UFC with a win in his final bout. “If Nate’s going to win, and I think he’s going to win, he’s going to finish him later,” ‘The Last Stylebener’ believes the US-born fighter has an advantage in this fight by virtue of the fact that it is a five-round bout, “I think Chimaev’s going to gas around the third, fourth, fifth, and then Nate just takes over, TKO or submits him.”

Israel Adesanya picks the rest of UFC 279

Israel Adesanya, the UFC Middleweight World Champion, chose other fights on UFC 279 aside from Nate Diaz vs Khamzat Chimaev. For the light heavyweight showdown between Johnny Walker vs Ion Cu?elaba, he said, “Johnny Walker, I’ll pick him in this fight … Johnny Walker for the win, I’m going to say knockout probably.”

“[Kevin Holland] is gifted,” Adesanya said of Kevin Holland vs Daniel Rodriguez at UFC 279, “Kevin’s faster, he’s not bad, he’s tough, but he gets hit. I’m going to pick Kevin in this one.”

“Co-main of the evening, ‘The Leech’ vs ‘El Cucuy’” for the welterweight showdown between Tony Ferguson vs Li Jingliang, ‘The Last Stylebener’ said, “Ferguson needs to get back to the sh*t that made him really good. I thought it was scrambles … Anyway, I’m going to pick ‘The Leech’ because I think he’s got momentum on his side.”

Nate Diaz Khamzat Chimaev

Nate Diaz is always ready to scrap. Whether in the gym, at a press conference, or in the cage, the Diaz brother is always prepared to throw down. On Saturday night he will compete in the main event of UFC 279 against the Russian-born Khamzat Chimaev. The US-born athlete will put this philosophy to the test in this welterweight fight because he said he did not even bother training for this match.

The UFC 279 headlining fight will be the final fight for Nate Diaz in the UFC. In the pre-fight press conference, the 37-year-old sounds as though he is mentally entirely done with competing in the organization. Diaz said:

“I gave up on preparing, it’s just whatever. Beat me … I think that I’ve been stuck in the cage for a long time, and I gotta do what I gotta do to get the f*ck out. Whether it’s fighting the toughest guy, the newest guy, whatever, you want to call him, or anybody, I’m just ready to rock and roll.”

The Stockton-born fighter said that he did not prepare for this fight and just wants out of his UFC contract. Some pundits have speculated that The Ultimate Fighter Season 5 winner is looking to walk out of the UFC to engage in a boxing fight against YouTube celebrity Jake Paul. When pressed on this, Nate Diaz did not directly say anything:

“I’ve heard a lot about a lot of stuff. Whatever comes after this, like I said, is going to be bigger than anything I’ve ever done”

Diaz recently founded Real Fight Inc., a combat sports promotion. He introduced himself to the UFC by winning season 5 of The Ultimate Fighter in 2007, and for much of his UFC tenure, was known best as the younger brother of Nick Diaz. The US-born fighter competed for the lightweight crown in 2012 and had two highly-rated bouts against the Irishman Conor McGregor.

Khamzat Chimaev does not think Nate Diaz will survive

‘The Wolf’ Khamzat Chimaev is sporting a perfect, undefeated record in MMA at 11-0. He was a national freestyle wrestling champion in Sweden before switching his focus to mixed martial arts. Since joining the UFC in 2020, he has won five consecutive fights including four by way of stoppage. The Russian-born athlete’s most recent win was over the former top contender Gilbert Burns. UFC 279 will be the first main event and five-round fight for Chimaev.

‘Borz’ Chimaev said in the pre-fight press conference that he believes his UFC 279 opponent, Nate Diaz, will not survive all five rounds on Saturday night. He said:

I don’t think that [Nate Diaz] is going to survive one round. I hope he can survive five rounds. It’s good for him. Show his heart and go away from the UFC being a warrior. If I beat him first round everyone is going to say the guy is too old and ‘Uncle Diaz is going to have to go home‘ … I come here, don’t take the points, and play the games. I come here to smash somebody and take his head.”
