Undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya is picking current bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling to retain his title tonight in the main event of UFC 288, noting a stern dislike for former duel-weight champion and incoming challenger, Henry Cejudo.

Adesanya, a two-time and current undisputed middleweight champion, managed to regain the throne himself back in April at UFC 287, stopping arch-rival, Alex Pereira with a second round knockout to win undisputed spoils in Miami, Florida.

As for Cejudo, the Los Angeles-born challenger makes his first Octagon walk in over three years tonight at the Prudential Center, having called time on his illustrious career off the back of a 2020 knockout win against former champion, Dominick Cruz.

Israel Adesanya hits out at Henry Cejudo ahead of UFC 288 comeback

Offering his thoughts and breakdown on tonight’s undisputed bantamweight title fight, Adesanya picked Uniondale native, Sterling to leave Newark, New Jersey with his title in tow – blasting Cejudo in the process, however.

“I’m gonna pick ‘Aljo’ because I don’t like Henry (Cejudo),” Israel Adesanya said on his YouTube channel. “See, I don’t have to make no bullsh*t up and try to justify it. I’ll just say I don’t like the munchkin, I don’t like Henry Cejudo, Yeah, I said your name, Little f*cking b*tch.”

“For me, it’s like, for such a smart man he lets his emotions cloud his judgment and he starts to get real hater vibes because he thinks that me being great takes away from his greatness,” Israel Adesanya explained. “I’m like, nah. You’re great in your own lane. You do your f*cking thing. You can do your f*cking thing, king – cringe king.”

Expected to return later this year, City Kickboxing mainstay, Adesanya has been earmarked to defend his middleweight throne in a title outing against either Robert Whittaker, or Dricus du Plessis in Syndey, Australia.

Aljamain Sterling reveals he hasn’t been cleared to compete in New York ahead of UFC 288 fight

Aljamain SterlingAljamain Sterling recently revealed that he has still not been cleared to compete in his home stay of New York. What does that mean for his UFC 288 main event showdown with Henry Cejudo? Absolutely nothing. Aljamain Sterling recently revealed that he has still not been cleared to compete in his home stay of New York. What does that mean for his UFC 288 main event showdown with Henry Cejudo? Absolutely nothing.

Aljamain Sterling’s bantamweight title fight with ‘Triple C’ will emanate from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, a hop, skip, and a jump away from NYC. Before stepping inside the Octagon for his third defense of the 135-pound crown, the ‘Funk Master’ appeared on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. While discussing his return to the Garden State, Sterling revealed that he has still not been cleared for competition in New York.

“So, when I made my UFC debut, February 22, 2014—I’m a vet, man. UFC 170, the Ronda Rousey vs. Sara McMann card, I believe… I had to get CAT scanned. First time I’m ever getting a CAT scan, and they found two spots in my brain. It was like a millimeter or something like that,” Aljamain Sterling recalled.

“But it looked like there was trauma, they weren’t sure what it was. I forget the exact term—aneurysm or angioma, something like that. So, in order for me to be cleared, I would have to, like, go take it out of my head. So, I wasn’t sure if I had to get, like, drilled in my head to pull these things out or whatever.”

Undergoing routine monitoring, Aljamain Sterling found that the spots did not appear to be causing him any harm or put him in any type of danger while competing. As a result, every other athletic commission around the country has allowed him to compete, but the New York State Athletic Commission is yet to clear him.

“They monitored it, they allowed me to fight in Nevada. And they just had me monitored every six months, every year. And then, for a couple of years after, they realized the change, nothing is happening with that. They were, like, ‘OK, you’re safe. You’re not bleeding out, you’re not gonna die in the cage (knock on wood).’

“So things were good, and I was allowed to compete in Nevada and all the other states, except for New York.”

While it’s unfortunate that Aljamain Sterling may never have the chance to fight in his home state, fans of ‘Funk Master’ in the Empire State won’t have to drive too far to see their boy throw hands in a highly anticipated bantamweight main event. After successfully defending his title against former champions Petr Yan and T.J. Dillashaw, Sterling will attempt to do it once again as he meets Olympic gold medalist and former two-division titleholder Henry Cejudo.

In 2020, Cejudo retired from the sport, vacating both his bantamweight and featherweight championships. Seeing an opportunity to claim UFC gold once again, ‘Triple C’ is back after a three-year-long layoff to resume his dominance in the 135-pound division.

Former two-division champion Henry Cejudo had an interesting incident with Kron Gracie during a UFC 288 poster signing session.

Fight week can be a very stressful time for fighters. In addition to grueling weight cuts for some, the obligation to participate in interviews, open workouts, and press conferences can cause some real agitation. That was apparently on display as Henry Cejudo arrived to sign posters alongside Kron Gracie. Both men are scheduled to take part in Saturday’s festivities with ‘Triple C’ stepping into the main event spotlight once again for a UFC bantamweight title tilt opposite reigning champion Aljamain Sterling.

Captured by UFC Embedded and shared on Twitter by Combat Sports Today, Kron Gracie was clearly in no mood to deal with Henry Cejudo’s classic cringe.

Cejudo: Is Nate coming?

Gracie: No, it’s his kid’s birthday.

Cejudo: Oh ya (laughs). Nate. God, I’m good looking (as Cejudo signs more posters)

Graice: When he’s done, let me know.

Cejudo: Nah, he said when I’m done. Is he mad at me?

UFC staffer: I think you are taking too long.

Cejudo: Me?

Henry Cejudo Ready to Resume His Reign Over the Bantamweight Division

Henry Cejudo was quick to dismiss the negative vibes coming from Gracie, suggesting that the featherweight standout was likely having a difficult time cutting weight for his main card contest with Charles Jourdain. Earning three-straight wins under the RIZIN banner, Gracie first appeared with the UFC in 2019 and scored a first-round submission victory over Alex Caceres. Eight months later, he would suffer a unanimous decision defeat against Cub Swanson in what would be his first and only career loss thus far.

Nearly four years removed from his last appearance inside the Octagon, Gracie returns to resume his mixed martial arts career against Canadian standout Charles Jourdain.

As for Henry Cejudo, the Olympic gold medalist is back for his first fight in three years. Capturing both the UFC bantamweight and featherweight championships, ‘Triple C’ successfully defended the former against division staple Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. Following his second round knockout of ‘The Dominator’, Cejudo officially hung up his gloves, vacating both titles in the process.

36 months later, Henry Cejudo is back and ready to resume his reign at the top of the 135-pound division.

UFC 288 Aljamain Sterling vs Henry Cejudo Betting Preview

Returning to ‘The Garden State’ this weekend for a pay-per-view flagship event, the UFC are slated to host a UFC 288 showcase at Prudential center in Newark, New Jersey. And taking main event honors at the event is an undisputed bantamweight title fight between current champion, Aljamain Sterling, and former two-division best, Henry Cejudo.

Attempting to leave himself unmatched alongside his bantamweight championship peers, Uniondale native, Sterlingh has the opportunity to become the first division titleholder in UFC history to successfully defend the bantamweight crown on three consecutive occasions.

As for Cejudo, the Los Angeles-born Olympic gold medalist has himself the chance to join past foes, Dominick Cruz, and T.J. Dillashaw as two-time titleholders at the bantamweight.

In the midst of a stunning eight-fight undefeated streak, Sterling has successfully defended his bantamweight crown against both former champions, Petr Yan and the above-mentioned, Dillashaw since his reign began back in 2021.

As for Cejudo, the former undisputed bantamweight and flyweight kingpin has been sidelined through a surprising retirement back in May 2020, calling time on his stunning career following a successful title defense of his own against the above-noted, Cruz.

However, despite Sterling’s impressive reign of dominance over his bantamweight compatriots, the returning Cejudo is closing as a -120 betting favorite to reclaim the throne over at BetWay at the time of publication.

Not out of the race with the bookies at the time of publication, however, Sterling has received a slew of wagers in the weeks ahead of UFC 288, and is currently sat as a narrow +105 betting underdog to retain his championship against Cejudo in the night’s headlining title showdown.

Seeing the untimely cancellation of an originally slated co-main event slot between former lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira, and Beneil Dariush for UFC 288, the promotion have since replaced the clash with a potential welterweight title-eliminator between Gilbert Burns and Belal Muhammad – over the course of five rounds to boot.

And off the back of his impressive decision win over Jorge Masvidal just over four weeks ago, Burns has emerged as a -125 betting favorite to defeat surging contender, Muhammad in the night’s co-main event – with the #4 ranked contender closing as a +100 betting underdog against Burns in New Jersey.

In another interesting main card clash, former undisputed strawweight champion, Jessica Andrade makes her return to the Octagon in a high-stakes division clash against Yan Xiaonan at the Prudential Center. And given her prior title-winning experience, Andrade is sat as a -170 betting favorite to defeat the +140 betting underdog, Xiaonan at UFC 288.

Set to make his first Octagon walk since November 2019, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert, Kron Gracie make his long-awaited return to the sport this weekend in the main card opener of UFC 288 to boot – taking on Canadian featherweight, Charles Jourdain.

8-1 as a professional, Gracie is closing as a +150 betting underdog to prevent a second consecutive loss in his return against Jourdain – with the latter sat as a -187 betting favorite ahead of their UFC 288 clash.

Henry Cejudo calls for fight with 'privileged brat' Sean O'Malley ahead of UFC 288 return

Former two-weight UFC champion, Henry Cejudo has called for a future title outing against the current #2 ranked division contender, Sean O’Malley in the future – as he prepares to make his retirement-snapping return at UFC 288 this weekend.

Cejudo, a former undisputed bantamweight and flyweight gold holder under the banner of the UFC, has been sidelined from active competition since retiring from mixed martial arts back in May 2020 after a second round knockout win over former champion, Dominick Cruz

Slated to make his Octagon return this weekend in Newark, New Jersey, Cejudo will take on current bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling in an undisputed title fight.

Henry Cejudo calls for title fight with Sean O’Malley next ahead of UFC 288

And despite winning gold nor making his return from retirement yet, Cejudo has called for a fight with the above-mentioned Dana White’s Contender Series alum, O’Malley in the future.

“I wouldn’t mind two tune-ups before I go against Alexander Volkanovski,” Henry Cejudo told assembled media ahead of UFC 288. “Sean O’Malley, he’s that dirty Q-tip, he’s a privileged brat. I think we all know that, and I’m going to hurt him. But first things first, Aljamain is first.”

“I know he’s confident, but I know deep down inside that he respects me a little too much. He’s going to see that competitor once the cage locks, he’s going to look into my eyes, and he’s going to to see what I’m made out of. Sean O’Malley is next and I like that fight. I love the fact that he’s tall, I love the fact that he’s popular, and I’m going to hurt that dude.”

“Right away, I want O’Malley,” Henry Cejudo explained. “Make sure he listens to this – I want him right away. I want to take at least about a month off and then boom, UFC, set it up. Let’s set it up and let’s do it in Boston. Let’s do it in his backyard. That wannabe American. Let’s do it in Boston.”
