Israel Adesanya’s coach, Eugene Bareman claims that Dricus du Plessis may miss out on a title shot.

Adesanya will now take on Sean Strickland in the main event of UFC 293 on September 9, which will take place in Sydney, Australia.

However, Strickland was drafted in on relatively short notice as the originally proposed opponent, Du Plessis, could not make the date after suffering in an injury.

Du Plessis proved many wrong and knocked out former champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 290 in July. To his credit, it is a quick turn around particularly for preparing to take on Adesanya and at the time of the Whittaker fight, du Plessis had already fought four times in the space of 12 months.

Israel Adesanya’s coach Eugene Bareman puts doubt on Dricus Du Plessis’ title shot

While it was presumed that Du Plessis would take on Adesanya after Strickland should ‘Stylebender’ win. However, while talking to Submission Radio, Bareman claimed that Du Plessis might not get the next title shot, claiming the south African ‘let it slip’.

The problem is if you don’t step up and take fights, you go into the pool. That’s a fact, Bareman began. “Nothing in this sport is solid until there’s something signed on the dotted line. If he’s got nothing signed on the dotted line, then he’s out there in the ether.

“He had a shot. It’s the same shot that many of my boys have had who have fought for titles or have titles. And we fought with horrific injuries because you don’t take that lightly… And yeah, it’s been a bad injury. So what? You’ve taken your shot for granted.”

“You think you’re going to get it again, but you don’t know what this machine does,” continued Bareman. “You don’t know the UFC. You don’t know what they do. You don’t know how they twist and turn things. Never feel comfortable with where you are. If there’s something in front of you that you’ve been working for your whole life, don’t think for a minute that it can’t just be taken away just like that. And he had it and he let it slip.”

An undisputed middleweight title fight between division champion and two-time gold holder, Israel Adesanya and surging number five ranked contender, Sean Strickland, is now officially scheduled to take main event honors at UFC 293 on September 9. from the Qudos Bank Arena from Sydney, Australia.

Attempting to make his defense of the middleweight crown as part of his second reign, undisputed division champion, Adesanya most recently landed the title at UFC 287 back in April in Miami, Florida, avenging a UFC 281 title loss to Alex Pereira with a stunning second round KO win over the common-foe.

As for Strickland, the outspoken middleweight contender competes for undisputed gold for the first time in his Octagon tenure, most recently turning in his first stoppage win since 2020 with a second round TKO win over Russian-born upstart, Abusupiyan Magomedov in July at the UFC Apex facility in a main event tilt. UFC president, Dana White confirmed the title fight between Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland on the promotion’s official YouTube channel.

Prior to his knockout win over Brazilian berserker, Pereira back in April of this year, City Kickboxing striker, Adesanya suffered his first professional middleweight loss in mixed martial arts against the Sao Paulo knockout ace back in November of last year at Madison Square Garden.

As for Strickland, the number five rated challenger emerged as the leading candidate to fight Nigerian-Kiwi, Adesanya after South African finisher and number one ranked challenger, Dricus du Plessis was unable to overcome an injury suffered before his most recent win over former champion, Robert Whittaker at UFC 290 during International Fight Week back in July.

UFC 293 takes place on September 9. from the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia – with Adesanya’s middleweight title fight with Strickland set to take main event honors.

Whilst an official headliner between middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, and the surging Sean Strickland has yet to be added to a UFC 293 card in September, the latter appears hopeful of finally booking the title siege, taking the opportunity to once more poke fun at Adesanya to boot.

Strickland, the current number five ranked middleweight contender, is widely expected to make his return to the Octagon on September 9. in Sydney, Australia – taking on two-time and current middleweigh titleholder, Adesanya in a championship pairing, atop a UFC 293 card.

For Adesanya, the City Kickboxing staple has been earmarked to headline the card ‘Down Under’ – in what would come as his first attempted title defense amid his second title reign, after minting himself as the gold holder with a rematch knockout win over Brazilian rival, Alex Pereira.

For outspoken striker, Strickland, the Xtreme Couture staple has turned in two consecutive victories this year, most recently stopping the highly-touted, Abusupiyan Magomedov with a second round TKO win at the UFC Apex facility – which followed a January decision win over Nassourdine Imavov at the light heavyweight limit in an impromptu clash.

And whilst Strickland’s head coach, Eric Nicksick admitted that things are moving in the right direction regarding a pairing for gold between his client and Adesanya, a UFC 293 title offing has yet to be officially announced by the promotion – just six weeks out from the event.

Sean Strickland once again takes the chance to poke fun at Israel Adesanya

Posting footage following a recent training session this week, Strickland claimed that a weight cut to the championship limit would likely be handily achieved. And tonight, the Californian has poked fun at Adesanya – remaining confident of sorting out the bout.

“Meh, I’ll get it worked out….,” Sean Strickland posted on his official X account. “To war China man… (American flag emoji) vs. (Chinese flag emoji).”

Sean Strickland coach claims title fight with Israel Adesanya at UFC 293 going right direction

Xtreme Couture coach, Eric Nicksick has confirmed that all signs are currently pointing towards a UFC 293 middleweight title fight between champion, Israel Adesanya, and his student, Sean Strickland for September – as the latter is currently attempting to trash out issues with his visa.

Strickland, the current number five ranked middleweight contender, most recently turned in an impressive stoppage victory last month in a main event slot – defeating the highly-touted, Abusupiyan Magomedov with a second round slew of strikes for a TKO win.

As for Adesanya, the two-time and current division gold holder has been sidelined himself since he headlined UFC 287 back in April in Miami, Florida – landing a second round KO win over arch–rival and common-foe, Alex Pereira to reclaim the undisputed middleweight crown.

And with an expected title grudge match against the newly-minted number one ranked, Dricus du Plessis falling to the wayside in recent weeks, Adesanya offered to travel ‘Down Under’ and defend his championship against the outspoken, Strickland.

Sean Strickland attempting to sort visa issues to book UFC 293 return

Setting a deadline for the beginning of this week to setup a title pairing with the City Kickboxing staple in Australia, Strickland’s head coach has now revealed that a title fight is moving in the “good direction”.

“I mean, all signs are pointing in a good direction,” Eric Nicksick told Submission Radio. “I know that. So, we just got done sparring just now. I’d ask Sean (Strickland), hey, what’s the deal? I’m going to be out there (Australia) anyway. I’m going to be cornering Casey O’Neill, and Manel (Kape). So, it’d be nice to get a third guy on the card.”

“We’re just kind of at the mercy of the visa process,” Nicksick explained. “But he (Sean Strickland) said all parties involved are on board. We haven’t talked about any logistics as far as numbers go until that visa gets done. And then that would be the next hurdle. But I don’t think it would be that difficult of a hurdle to cross. But moreover, I think the visa thing is the biggest hurdle that we have to get through right now. And then once we get over that, man, and then the business kicks in and I think we’ll be good to go.”

Undisputed middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya has heaped praise on the shoulders of former opponent and arch-rival, Alex Pereira following the Brazilian’s successful outing at the light heavyweight limit over the weekend in the co-main event of UFC 291.

Adesanya, the current and two-time undisputed middleweight champion, managed to reclaim the divisional crown back in April in Miami, Florida, defeating Pereira with a second round KO in the pair’s championship rematch.

As for Sao Paulo striker, Pereira, the knockout artist ended Adesanya’s first middleweight title reign back in November of last year at Madison Square Garden, rallying to land a fifth round standing TKO win over the City Kickboxing staple.

And making a light heavyweight limit leap over the course of the weekend in Salt Lake City, Pereira managed to land at the weight class with a split decision win over common-foe and former champion, Jan Blachowicz.

Expected to make a title fight outing in his sophomore outing at the light heavyweight limit against former champion, Jiri Prochazka, Pereira – who has subsequently earned the number three rank in the division with his win over Blachowicz, impressed Adesanya in his first performance at the weight class in Utah.

“Beautiful try, but the boy (Alex Pereira) got long legs, man,” Israel Adesanya said on his YouTube channel. “I’m telling you, he doesn’t want any space because once you give him space, he’s going to touch you. Beautiful defense. Good way to not balance himself – corrected it. Good lad.”

Alex won – (he) looked good at light heavyweight,” Israel Adesanya explained. “Also, elevation – we have to consider that as well. Crafty from Jan (Blachowicz). He did the right thing to try and sneak the victory, but wasn’t enough. Alex now vs. Jiri (Prochazka) probably for the belt, I’m going to assume.”

Himself expected to return at UFC 293 on September 9. in Sydney, Australia – Adesanya has been linked to fights with both Sean Strickland and Jared Cannonier for the promotion’s return ‘Down Under’.

Still expected to make his return to the Octagon at UFC 293 in September, undisputed middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya has urged surging rival, Dricus du Plessis to continue preparation for a future clash – claiming the South African is “scared” of him most definitely.

Adesanya, a two-time and current undisputed middleweight champion under the banner of the UFC, has been sidelined since he took headlining honors at UFC 287 back in April in Miami, Florida, defeating arch-rival and recent UFC 291 winner, Alex Pereira with a stunning second round KO.

As for du Plessis, the Pretoria native most recently turned in a spectacular career-highlight win over former champion and common-foe, Robert Whittaker at UFC 290 during International Fight Week last month, earning the number one rank in the division.

Slated to return atop a UFC 293 card on September 9. in Sydney, Australia, Adesanya, who claims du Plessis will miss the event due to injury, has been linked to a title defense against either Sean Strickland, or a rematch with contender, Jared Cannonier.

Israel Adesanya claims Dricus du Plessis is “scared” of him

Expecting an eventual clash with promotional-perfect challenger, du Plessis, Adesanya has urged the former to continue preparing for a showdown, while claiming he is most certainly scared of him.

“Now, he (Dricus du Plessis) doesn’t wanna fight,” Israel Adesanya said on The Halfcast Podcast. “Even after [UFC 290], he’s like, ‘Oh, bro, all you had to do was put some gloves on, we could have got it on right there.’ B*tch ass, f*ck you wouldn’t have. ‘Cause guess what, he didn’t want it… People were like, ‘Oh, he’s so classy walking away. He’s so (classy).’ I’m like, ‘Bro, he didn’t event walk away. He felt me.’ He didn’t wanna feel me.”

“He’s not a scared man, he’s a tough dude,” Israel Adesanya explained. “He’s very crafty, and he’s got a good team behind him, (a) smart team. I don’t think he’s a scared man, but I’ll tell you he’s scared of me. You know when you look in someone’s eyes, you just know straight away. He didn’t call me to the cage, I stepped in the cage myself. I didn’t even see him call me… I stepped into the cage because I made this sh*t happen. This motherf*cker – I hope, I really was hoping he’d f*cking step up. But he’s a b*tch, and I’ll tell you right now. Keep training. Keep training. I’ve got something for you’re ass, so keep training.” (Transcribed by MMA News)
