As for Jones, the former two-time light heavyweight champion is slated to make his own Octagon return at UFC 295 in November at Madison Square Garden in New York, welcoming former two-time heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic in a heavyweight title defense.

As for Jones, the former JacksonWink MMA staple has welcomed the opportunity to share the mats with Pereira in the future, posing “I would be honored” on his official Instagram account.

And ahead of his own title outing against Miocic later this year, Jones employed the talents of decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace and practitioner, Gordon Ryan – with the pair sharing the grappling mats as part of a rigorous training programme.

“You know, I feel like the Stipe (Miocic) fight will be plenty for me,” Jon Jones said. “I don’t have much to prove after beating Stipe Miocic. I’ve been in the game for a long time, and in fighter years, I’m an old guy. I’ve been training for a long time, been in the game for a long time. Got some small injuries, and I really just want to be around – be around for my family, I wanna be around for my kids, I wanna be able to play with my kids. And have a good head on my shoulders, and joints that work.”

Stephen Thompson welcomes UFC 295 fight with Kamaru Usman I'll all for it

Seeing a planned Octagon return at UFC 291 last weekend fall to the wayside, former two-time welterweight title challenger, Stephen Thompson has welcomed the prospect of a return to active competition against former champion, Kamaru Usman – particularly if it comes at UFC 295 in November, after the latter expressed an interest in fighting him.

Thompson, the current number seven ranked welterweight contender, has been sidelined from the Octagon since he headlined UFC Fight Night Orlando back in December of last year, securing an eventual corner’s stoppage TKO win over recent winner, Kevin Holland.

Slated to return at UFC 291 over the course of last weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah, Thompson saw a welterweight pairing against Brazilian striker, Michel Pereira shelved, after rejecting to share the Octagon with him, following a sizeable four pound weight miss on the morning of Friday’s official weigh-in.

Yet to receive show money despite successfully making weight for his return in ‘The Beehive State’, Thompson has since been offered a return to competition by Auchi native and former pound-for-pound number one, Usman, who claimed that the pairing “made sense”.

“The only guys, to be honest, that would even make sense right now are ‘Wonderboy’ (Stephen Thompson – he needs an opponent,” Kamaru Usman said. “‘Wonderboy’ has been around so long, and he’s just that name, to where it’s always a great fight.”

“His style is very, very difficult to fight,” Kamaru Usman explained. “And you know, he’s just one of those names that I never got – who was in my era, who I never got to fight. So, I think ‘Wonderboy’ – so I would definitely consider that.”

Stephen Thompson welcomes MSG showdown with ex-champion, Kamaru Usman

And welcoming a return to the Octagon – ideally at UFC 295 at Madison Square Garden in November, Thompson claimed he would be interested in fighting Usman later this year.

“Kamaru Usman has always been a guy that I just never had the opportunity to face off against,” Stephen Thompson told TMZ during a recent interview. “For him to say he was willing to fight, and it makes sense at this point, is awesome. I’m all for it, to be honest with you. I am all for it.”

“To be able to have a shot at the number one seed, are you kidding me?” Stephen Thompson continued. “And a good athlete, a good person in Kamaru Usman, I’m all for it. I love battling those type of guys. The guys with professionalism, those guys that are good people inside and outside of the Octagon. We’ve hung out a few times and we’ve always been very cordial, but that would be awesome. MSG (Madison Square Garden) or whenever he wants to do it – I’m looking at MSG right now.”

UFC heavyweight Tom Aspinall intends to be cageside for the upcoming title clash between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic at UFC 295.

Aspinall is fresh off a comeback win following suffering an ACL injury almost a year to the day against Curtis Blaydes. The Englishman made quick work off Marcin Tybura last weekend, dispatching of him after landing a massive right at just over the minute mark.

The 30-year-old made his vision very clear during his post-fight speech and would state his claim for a future title shot.

“I’m gonna go to Paris, I’m gonna sit in the front row and see Cyril Gane vs. Serghei Spivak, I’m gonna beat the winner and then I’m gonna beat Jon Jones,” said Aspinall.

Aspinall will seemingly be taking it once step further, in a report by Chisanga Malata, will also be cageside for Jones’s upcoming UFC heavyweight title defence against Miocic.

Tom Aspinall tells me he plans to attend #UFC 295 to watch Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic in person.
‘He hopes to fight on the card but will settle for being octagonside to further insert himself into the conversation.’ – Chisanga Malata via Twitter.

Will Tom Aspinall face Jon Jones?

Of course, there would be several things that will have to go right, and if the past few years of the heavyweight division are something to go off – fans shouldn’t get too optimistic. However, the thought of an Aspinall Vs. Jones is mouth watering, and with Aspinall’s unique skillset it is a genuinely compelling fight.

Jones will have to defeat multiple time UFC champion Miocic, and even then, ‘Bones’ has made recent comments regarding retirement.

Aspinall is set to face the winner of Gane and Spivak, the latter of which he has already defeated compressively, but to the Moldavan’s credit he has made serious improvements since. Gane, who is the betting favrioute, would present a new challenge to Aspinall and would be clash between two the two best ‘new-age’ heavyweights.

Jon Jones warning to Tom Aspinall everybody is the next big thing before I beat them UFC

Jon Jones appears to have taken note of a recent call out from the surging, Tom Aspinall following his win at UFC London – warning the British heavyweight that he as a knack of defeated the consensus “next big thing”.

Jones, the current undisputed heavyweight champion and former two-time light heavyweight gold holder, is slated to make his return to the Octagon at UFC 295 in November at Madison Square Garden, taking on the returning former two-time champion, Stipe Miocic.

Earlier this year, the Endicott-born look-see-do fighter returned triumphantly from a three-year-plus layoff, taking on former interim champion, Ciryl Gane in a vacant title offing.

Striking divisional gold in his heavyweight bow, Jon Jones submitted the Frenchman with a dominant opening round guillotine choke submission win.

And following his knockout win over Marcin Tybura over the weekend in his return to the Octagon following a debilitating knee injury, Aspinall called for a future title pairing with Jones

However, this morning, in a now-deleted post, Jones claimed that Aspinall may be the “next big thing”, however, he has an ability to comfortably dispatch fighters with that billing.

“Everyone’s the next big thing until I beat them,” Jon Jones tweeted. “And then it’s like well, who was that guy anyway? Just a few months ago (Ciryl) Gane was the absolute future of MMA. Best foot work, fastest heavyweight we have ever seen. The most athletic. Now everyone’s like who the hell is that guy?”

Linked with a potential retirement of his own in a return to his home state for his heavyweight title defense against Miocic before the end of this year, Jones is firmly on the radar of Aspinall – with the Atherton native welcoming a title-eliminator with either Gane, or former-foe, Sergei Spivak before challenging Jones for the undisputed heavyweight championship.
