Michael Page predicts UFC title fight with Leon Edwards we can sell out a stadium

Recently laying out plans for a future championship fight with compatriot, Leon Edwards in the United Kingdom, incoming Octagon debutante, Michael Page claims if he can work his way to a UFC title siege with the Birmingham native, the two can sell out a stadium show in the country.

Page, a former Bellator MMA welterweight title challenger, will make his long-anticipated bow in the Octagon at UFC 299 in March, taking on fan-favorite welterweight contender, Kevin Holland on the main card of the Miami, Florida card.

Entering his first Octagon walk off the back of a quickfire leg kick TKO win over Goiti Yamauchi back in March, Page already has sights fixed on standing opposite British gold holder, Edwards in a future title fight – with the latter expected to feature at UFC 300 in April in a championship rematch against Belal Muhammad.

Michael Page envisions Leon Edwards title fight in the UFC

However, according to London Shootfighters staple, Page, should he work his way to a championship tilt against Edwards, the pair could most definitely sell out a stadium in the UK – on unprecedented footing for the Dana White-led organization.

“It’s an absolutely massive fight,” Michael Page told MMA Junkie of a fight between himself and Leon Edwards. “It makes a statement to where the U.K. artists are at this stage of MMA in the world. The U.K. guys are doing so well. You just have to look across at Tom Aspinall doing his thing as well as heavyweight. The fact that we can get two U.K. guys to headline a main event in the U.K. is unbelievable for a belt. Like I said, unheard of. Let’s make it happen.”

“… I want to be big knockout, big knockout, and let’s go for the belt,” Michael Page continued. “Hopefully, Leon’s still got the belt. I definitely believe that he can still have the belt. We can sell out a stadium, we can make so much noise together and sell out a stadium in the U.K. and just bring an untold story to the UFC.”

Linked with an undisputed lightweight title fight defense against former interim champion, Justin Gaethje, pound-for-pound kingpin, Islam Makhachev has offered the UFC an ultimatium if they want to see him fight before the summer; book him in March or wait until after Ramadan.

Makhachev, the current undisputed lightweight champion and pound-for-pound number one ranked fighter, most recently headlined UFC 294 back in October, landing a blistering opening round high-kick and strikes KO win over Alexander Volkanovski in the pair’s short-notice rematch.

And back in February of this year, Russian favorite, Makhachev defended his lightweight throne for the first time with a close decision win over Volkanovski in enemy territory in the main event of UFC 284 in Australia.

Linked with a massive lightweight title fight against symbolic BMF championship holder, Gaethje in a return to the Octagon before the beginning of Ramadan, Makhachev, who has also knocked back the idea of a rematch with former-foe, Charles Oliveira, offered the UFC an ultimatum and timeline overnight.

Cody Garbrandt Sean O'Malley

Cody Garbrandt believes a “money fight” with Sean O’Malley is in his future, and says he’d love to “smack around” the current UFC bantamweight champion.

Now 3-2 in his last five, Garbrandt is riding a two-fight win streak and is looking to continue his momentum after an impressive stoppage over Brian Kelleher at UFC 296.

The idea of a fight between O’Malley and Garbrandt had been bounced around by media and fans alike for years, but the two fighters’ paths could never seem to align. Now, O’Malley is the champion of the bantamweight division and Cody Garbrandt is a big name riding an impressive streak. Even if another fight or two is needed, Garbrandt is chomping at the bit to get his opportunity to shine against “Suga” Sean O’Malley.

Cody Garbrandt talks about his desire for the Sean O’Malley Fight

Speaking to ESPN’s Marc Raimondi, Garbrandt opened up about his current ambitions, and his desire to regain UFC gold.

“If Sean’s still the champion when it’s my time to punch that ticket again, I would absolutely love that,” Garbrandt told ESPN (H/T Yahoo Sports). “And if he’s not and I’ve got to work my way to Sean if he loses, if he’s ranked – all these rankings are a bunch of bullsh*t to be honest.”

“It just never made sense to me, but that’s beside the point. I think a clash course with Sean is definitely in the near future, a money fight. That’s what it’s all about. What is going to bring the most eyes to these fights. Sean and I have history. I would just love to go and smack him around.”

After his spectacular win over Brian Kelleher, Cody Garbrandt called out former champion Deiveson Figueiredo, who he explained that he viewed as the tougher test.

“I think Deiveson’s far more dangerous than Sean O’Malley,” Garbrandt claimed. “I truly believe that. Sean’s got good skills. He’s got good things, but Deiveson is the next adversary that I want to fight. That’s what I’m focused on. That’s what I want.”
