Ilia Topuria left unimpressed by Max Holloway after UFC 300 win he will have to go back in line

Ilia Topuria is ready to accept Max Holloway’s challenge but claims it won’t be much of a challenge at all. He plans on defeating Holloway and sending him to the “back of the line” in terms of featherweight title contention.

Such a thing is very bold to say, considering Holloway’s prowess at 145lbs and his recent exploits in his fight with Justin Gaethje at UFC 300. In case you hadn’t heard, Holloway moved up to 155lbs for the second time in his career to face Gaethje for the BMF title.

Gaethje and Holloway battled it out for five rounds, with ‘Blessed’ landing a stunning knockout over Gaethje with just three seconds left in the final round. Now, Holloway stands on top of the world, and as he’s said: “We got options.”

Making good on his previous plans, Holloway was successful in his battle with Gaethje and made good on his word to call out Ilia Topuria after the fight.

Topuria has now accepted this challenge but has some very bold words for the title challenger, claiming that he is excited to send Holloway back to the bottom of the totem pole.

“It’s clear to me that my next fight is against Max Holloway,” Ilia Topuria told ESPN Deportes. “Congratulations, and enjoy tonight, but after fighting me, he will have to go back in the line”

Currently undefeated and riding a 7-0 streak in the UFC, Topuria claimed the throne with a spectacular victory over Alexander Volkanovski. Upon his ascent up the ranks, though, Topuria never had to test himself against Holloway. It will surely be his biggest challenge since Volkanovski himself, and certainly a frightening endeavor, considering how great ‘Blessed’ looked at UFC 300.

Max Holloway welcomes rematch with Conor McGregor for BMF belt after UFC 300 we got options

After stealing the show at UFC 300, Max Holloway has “got options”, and these options may now include a potential rematch with Conor McGregor.

Holloway threw down with Justin Gathje Saturday at the T-Mobile arena and both warriors delivered a true battle to the fans. Round after round, they tested each other. Gaethje’s leg kicks were on point, but the volume from Max Holloway’s standup game was overwhelming. A sinister spinning back-kick that caught Gaethje in the face and nose was an early blow that gave ‘The Highlight’ even more adversity to overcome.

The fourth round may have truly been the only round that Gathje won. Each round was pretty close, but Holloway always managed to clinch each round in a clear and convincing fashion. This is why everybody was amazed when, at the very end of the last round, with about 10 seconds left, Holloway pointed to the center of the cage and challenged Gaethje to stand toe-to-toe with him and trade. And Gaethje obliged.

What happened next will likely go down as the craziest moment in Max Holloway’s career. The two men stood directly in front of each other and began unleashing devastating hooks and uppercuts. Hardly a strike was landed, though, until with about three seconds left on the clock, a solid blow connected with Gaethje’s face that sent him completely into a different realm. Justin Gaethje went limp and face-planted onto the canvas, and it was truly like a scene from a movie.

Max Holloway Could rematch Conor McGregor for the BMF Belt, or chase a featherweight title fight

After making such a monumental statement at UFC 300, Holloway has now seen a number of opportunities open up for him. A fight with Ilia Topuria for the featherweight title beckons, while the allure of another huge money fight probably seems undeniable to him.

In the post-fight press conference, Holloway made it clear that he would be open to a rematch with McGregor. Such a fight would have to wait though, as it also became clear last night that McGregor and Michael Chandler will finally face off at UFC 303 later this year.

The UFC 300 card has excellent form from the start, all the way up to the very end when Pereira and Hill battled it out for the UFC light-heavyweight title. A fight between two power punches, the contest never seemed destined to go the distance

After a rather uneventful first three minutes in which the pair exchanged some shots, it seemed a grazing low blow that woke up ‘Poatan’. After referee Herb Dean began to break up the action, Pereira ushered him away to keep the action going. Then just seconds later, Pereira launched a left hook that sent Hill crashing to his back – some heavy ground-and-pound would quickly see the fight be called off

Following the contest Hill would share a positive message to fans via his social media and seemed in good spirits considering the circumstances.

“Oh well, that’s the game we play,” Jamahal Hill said. “I got caught. For anyone that cares, I’m good. I’m well. We’re still doing our thing tonight, you know where we’re at — we’re over at Hakkasan. Yeah, man. We’re just built to come right back.”

Pereira will look to continue to be an active champion, even calling to defend his 205lb title at UFC 301 on May 4. While this is unlikely, Pereira has proved to be at his best when fighting consistently.

His win over Hill marked the first defence of his second UFC title just two-and-a-half years from his UFC debut. The Brazilian is now one of the promotion’s biggest stars and is in line for another monumental fight.

As for Hill, still just 32 years old — he will likely be back and with the ever-changing light-heavyweight division will not be far from title contention should he put in some good performances.

Dana White calls for Holly Holm to retire after UFC 300 loss to Kayla Harrison I would love to see it

UFC CEO Dana White calls for Holly Holm to retire following her loss to Kayla Harrison last night as part of the monumental 300 card.

Aged 42, Holm would add yet another notable name to her lengthy resume when welcoming former PFL champion, Harrison, to the UFC. Unfortunately for the former bantamweight champion it wasn’t to be her night – Harrison dominated the contest with her heavy top game leading to an eventual submission in the second round

It likely marks one of the last, if not the final fight of Holly Holm’s legendary career, competing in 17 UFC contests, picking up a title and fighting the very best in the sport. This of course comes after a professional boxing career in which she won several world titles and amassed a record of 33-2-3.

What’s next for Holly Holm?

Speaking at the post-fight press conference, White discussed the 135lb clash and praised Holm before calling for her to retire.

“So going in against a legend like Holly, who has a ton of Octagon time, and I don’t care what level Kayla Harrison has competed in, I guarantee you she had serious jitters tonight. She came in there, performed and put it to an absolute legend in all of combat sports,” said White as he addressed the media.

“Obviously a big night for Kayla and a big win, but I would love to see Holly retire.”

As for Harrison, the 33-year-old is in line for a big fight later on in the year and if she continues to win, will be on the brink at a shot of the title. The American is a good injection of excitement to a division which has failed to capture the public as of late.

Turning in a spectacular knockout win over former champion, Jamahal Hill last night in the main event of UFC 300, undisputed light heavyweight kingpin, Alex Pereira has explained the origin of his meme celebration after his victory – claiming after the Illinois native’s heated approach to their clash, celebrating in such a manner it eh least he could do.

Pereira, a former undisputed middleweight titleholder, turned in another stunning knockout win overnight in the main event of UFC 300, dispatching the returning DWCS alum, Hill with a devastating opening round shovel hook finish in Las Vegas.

Rejecting a timeout offer from referee, Herb Dean following an inadvertent groin kick, Pereira brushed the veteran official aside, before landing a massive left hand strike on Hill, sending him to the canvas and finishing with a slew of ground strikes for a dominant first round knockout triumph.

Explaining the nature for his outlandish celebration gesture, Pereira claimed that after Hill attempted to ramp up their rivalry with verbals during fight week, celebrating in such a fashion was the least he could do.

“I spoke with my team before that I wanted to fight five rounds,” Alex Pereira told assembled media after UFC 300. “But if the knockout happened, that’s what I was going to do. He behaved not so good.”

“He started respectfully during the week and then he did what he did during the press conference and the weigh-ins, so honestly, the least that I could do was just that to him,” Alex Pereira explained.

Calling for a quickfire return after emerging relatively unscathed against Hill, Pereira suggested a May return in just three weeks time at UFC 301 in his native Brazil, however, promotional boss, Dana White revealed the Sao Paulo kingpin had suffered a broken toe just two weeks ahead of his title headliner overnight.
