Alex Pereira offers a sassy response to Jamahal Hill getting advice from Israel Adesanya ahead of UFC 300

Alex Pereira thinks Jamahal Hill asking two-time titleholder Israel Adesanya for advice is a smart move.

On Saturday night (April 13) ‘Sweet Dreams’ returns to the Octagon for the first time since a light heavyweight title-winning performance against Glover Teixeira in January 2023. Sadly, Hill never had the chance to defend the strap as he suffered an Achilles injury six months later, forcing him to vacate the 205-pound crown.

Having never lost the belt, Hill hopes to pick up right where he left off when he challengers current champ Alex Pereira in the UFC 300 headliner in Sin City.

Alex Pereira vs. Jamahal Hill

Considering it’s only been nine months since Hill sustained the devastating injury, pundits were quick to question how healthy Hill could actually be by the time he steps inside the cage. Pereira, on the other hand, is not overly concerned with Hill’s status, one way or another.

“I definitely don’t have expectations of him just sitting out, not training because of an injury,” Pereira said through his translator at the UFC 300 media day. “If he signed the contract to fight this fight, he did for a reason. He knows the test he has ahead of himself, so I’m very aware of it.”

Earlier this month, Jamahal Hill revealed that he had sought out the advice of former middleweight champion and perennial Alex Pereira adversary, Israel Adesanya. Hill said that ‘The Last Stylebender’ shared “some advice and insights on what he’s seen and his experience of being in there fighting Alex.”

Alex Pereira and Israel Adesanya

Responding to the news, Pereira offered up a cheeky response to both Adesanya and his UFC 300 opponent.

“I think it was good,” Pereira said. “Actually, it was the best thing he could have done for himself, because if he had went and sparred with Israel Adesanya, it would have been a big frustration for him, especially for the fact that I beat him so many times.”

Alex Pereira has gone toe-to-toe with the ‘Stylebender’ on four separate occasions — twice under the GLORY Kickboxing banner and twice inside the Octagon. ‘Poatan’ went 3-0 against Adesanya, knocking him out in back-to-back fights before the New Zealander finally broke through and got himself into the win column.

Alex Pereira not concerned with a potential move to heavyweight

Having already claimed both the middleweight and light heavyweight titles in his first seven fights under the UFC banner, rumors have been circulating that ‘Poatan’ could make the move up to heavyweight in an attempt to become the promotion’s first-ever three-division champion.

Perhaps one day, but for now, Pereira is perfectly content stacking bodies at the 205 level.

“There is no plan.” Pereira said. “The next step is to keep defending the title, unlimited times. I’m not the kind of guy to call out opponents because I’ll fight anybody. I’m the champ. I’ll keep defending it.”

Islam Makhachev hits back at Max Holloway with some facts: 'Do your homework before talking trash'

Islam Makhachev snapped back at former featherweight champion Max Holloway.

Earlier this month, ‘Blessed’ criticized the lightweight titleholder for choosing to sit on the sidelines rather than opting to fight the next man in line for a shot at the 155-pound crown, Justin Gaethje.

You should’ve fought Justin in February,” Holloway said on the MIGHTYcast with Demetrious Johnson. “Why did the guy you knocked out turn around so fast and fight in February? I mean, you were healthy. You should’ve turned around and came [back in] February.

Makhachev didn’t take kindly to Holloway butting his nose into a division he’s not part of and encouraged the BMF challenger to do a little homework the next time he wants to run his mouth.

For the record: since 2021 I fought 7 times, while Holloway did 5 fights and Justin just 4. Do your homework before talking trash about your champ,” Makhachev wrote on X.

Holloway’s five fights since 2021 have come against Calvin Kattar, former interim champion Yair Rodriguez, Arnold Allen, The Korean Zombie, and ex-featherweight king Alexander Volkavnoski. Gaethjes’ four fights were against Michael Chandler, Rafael Fiziev, Dustin Poirier, and then-lightweight champion Charles Oliveira.

Makhachev may have fought more, but you certainly can’t argue with the strength of schedule for ‘The Highlight’ and Holloway.

Max Holloway Looking to bank a few more bucks for his uFC 300 assignment

This Saturday night (April 13), Max Holloway will return to the Octagon at UFC 300 for a BMF title clash with the holder of the promotion’s bragging rights belt, Justin Gaethje.

Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway

Despite there being two legitimate championship fights atop the loaded lineup in Sin City, Holloway’s scrap with Gaethje has been at the forefront of marketing the landmark event — something that has not gone unnoticed.

“Every time I see an ad on UFC for UFC 300, it’s me and Justin,” Holloway remarked during Wednesday’s UFC media event. “So, at the end of the day, [my manager] Tim, Daniel, someone needs to get on the phone with Dana White, Hunter [Campbell], and we gotta talk numbers about some things. Because it’s looking kinda funny.”

Considering UFC CEO Dana White just dubbed ‘Blessed’ the “greatest featherweight of all time,” it would appear as though all the bargaining chips are on Holloway’s side of the table.

Charles Oliveira uninterested in selling UFC 300 fight with words: ‘When that door closes, I’m a lion hunting’

Charles Oliveira isn’t interested in a war of words with his UFC 300 opponent.

This Saturday night (April 13) ‘Do Bronx’ will return to the Octagon for a lightweight title eliminator fight with streaking division standout Arman Tsarukyan.

Charles Oliveira vs. Tsarukyan

Despite the high stakes at play, both camps have stayed relatively quiet. At least, that was until ‘Ahalkalakets’ went on the record accusing Oliveira of being a one-trick pony ahead of their main card clash in Sin City.

“Charles is good at one thing: taking his opponent’s back and choking him out from that position,” Tsarukyan said in a translated interview with Red Corner MMA.

Tsarukyan later clarified that he was simply trying to sell his fight with Oliveira since it’s been nothing, but silence on the former champ’s side of things.

Asked about Tsarukyan’s comments during his appearance at Wednesday’s UFC media event, ‘Do Bronx’ made it clear that he wasn’t interested in lobbing verbal jabs at his opponent.

“Some people sell the fight in a different way. Some people are going to say things, and it doesn’t matter,” Oliveira said through a translator. “I sell the fight in just one way: When that door closes, I’m a lion hunting. That’s what I do. That’s my style of selling a fight” (h/t MMA Junkie).

Charles Oliveira Refuses to look past arman tsarukyan

Even if you agree with Tsarukyan’s claim that Charles Oliveira is one-dimensional, you can’t deny that it has worked well for him for much of his career. After all, ‘Do Bronx’ is the UFC’s all-time leader in finishes with sensational wins over the likes of Michael Chandler, Justin Gaethje, Dustin Poirier, and Beneil Dariush. If he can bag another highlight-reel-worthy W against Tsarukyan, Oliveira expects his next fight to be for lightweight gold.

Of course, that doesn’t mean he’s looking past the task at hand.

“Dana even said it, that I’m next in line,” Oliveira said. “Then I got injured. Then Islam allegedly is injured, as well. A lot of people are going to say things, but let’s wait. Let’s take one thing at a time. Let’s get this one on Saturday and then we’ll talk about it.”

Justin Gaethje is ready to die inside the Octagon at UFC 300: ‘Hopefully I’m there on Sunday’

To say Justin Gaethje doesn’t look beyond his next fight is a bit of an understatement.

On Saturday night (April 13), ‘The Highlight’ will step inside the Octagon for the first time since scoring a highlight-reel second-round head-kick KO against Dustin Poirier in July. On that night, Gaethje claimed the BMF title. Next, he’ll put the bragging rights belt up for grabs when he meets former featherweight champion Max Holloway in a bout being dubbed by pundits as “the people’s main event” of UFC 300.

Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway

Speaking with media members during Wednesday’s UFC media event, Gaethje was asked about any potential fights he’s hoping to book before laying down his gloves for good.

“I’m a quarter-mile at a time kind of guy,” Gaethje said. “I do not look too far ahead. Honestly, I have no clue what the future holds. I don’t usually plan on being alive the day after my fights, so hopefully I’m there on Sunday.”

Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway face off.

A win over Justin Gaethje could open to door to a 155-pound title opportunity for ‘blessed’

Gaethje goes into UFC 300 with a lightweight title opportunity hanging in the balance. While he’s already regarded by most as the next man in line to challenge reigning 155-pound king Islam Makhachev, a decisive loss against ‘Blessed’ could disrupt those plans and pave the way for him to sneak in through the back door and claim his own shot at the ‘Dagestani Destroyer.’

“I’m in a situation, I’m in a place where first things first is Gaethje,” Holloway told Kevin Iole. “But if I can go out there and get my hand raised like we plan on doing, there’s a lot of fights that can be there for us. And one of them being the ‘55 champ, which I think would be a fun one. I’m still on this path and that’s why I’m here today.”

Islam Makhachev could defend his title against Justin Gaethje or Max Holloway in the future

Justin Gaethje closing as betting favorite to beat Max Holloway in UFC 300 BMF title fight

Just a handful of days out from a spectacular UFC 300 card this weekend, former interim lightweight champion, Justin Gaethje is closing as a betting favorite to beat former undisputed featherweight kingpin, Max Holloway in the pair’s anticipated BMF championship showdown.

Gaethje, the current number two ranked lightweight contender, has been sidelined since last summer, racking up a stunning second round high-kick KO win over fellow former interim titleholder, Dustin Poirier in the pair’s massive rematch for the symbolic BMF crown.

And as for Holloway, the Hawaiin rides an impressive two-fight winning run into his return to the lightweight limit, most recently bringing the curtain down on the Hall of Fame career of Chan Sung Jung in Singapore with a thunderous, face-planting knockout.

Despite this, however, Max Holloway is closing as the betting underdog in his fight with Justin Gaethje this weekend at UFC 300 – to the tune of +136, with the defending symbolic titleholder a betting favorite available as high as -162.

And eyeing a future title fight with incumbent champion, Islam Makhachev off the back of his fight with fan-favorite slickster, Holloway this weekend, Gaethje envisioned a rather violent finish of the former in their UFC 300 clash – vowing to hopefully leave Holloway in need of a doctor’s stoppage of mercy in ‘Sin City’.

“No one steals the show quite like ‘The Highlight’,” Justin Gaethje said during the UFC 300 promotional release. “Carnage, chaos, probably some blood and adrenaline coursing through the veins, that is what you are going to get from me. My ability to create damage is second to none. Max Holloway is a legend, probably the only person on the UFC roster that checks every single box of being a BMF so I have a lot of respect for him.”

“However, this is my job and I’m going to try and f*ck him up,” Justin Gaethje explained. “I will finish Max, he may not go away the traditional way, but I think I will inflict damage to where the doctors need to stop it [the fight]. We are about to paint a violent picture and no two better guys to go out there and put on a show.”

Another eye-catching feature at UFC 300 this weekend sees both Gaethje and Holloway land their respective custom fight shorts for their massive clash.

However, stealing the fashion side of the occasion in the eyes of many fans and pundits, Holloway helped design a pair of white, vale tudo compression shorts, accompanied by floral designs of red and blue.
