Dana White dubs Max Holloway 'the greatest featherweight of all time' ahead of BMF title fight at UFC 300

Featherweight mainstay Max Holloway will look to add another title to his collection when he battles lightweight slugger Justin Gaethje for the promotion’s officially unofficial bragging rights belt, the BMF title, this Saturday night (April 13) in Sin City.

Emanating from the familiar confines of T-Mobile Arena, UFC 300 boasts a stacked lineup featuring 13 fights and 12 current or former champions. In “the people’s main event,” Holloway will move up from 145 to 155 to try and take Gaethje’s title as the UFC’s baddest motherf*cker and potentially put himself in line for a lightweight championship opportunity.

Appearing on a recent episode of First Take with Stephen A. Smith, UFC CEO Dana White dubbed Holloway the “greatest featherweight of all time” while hyping up his clash with Gaethje.

“Max Holloway, always a big fan favorite,” White said. “Probably the greatest featherweight of all time, going up against Gaethje, who is a human highlight reel” (h/t MMA Mania).

UFC 300 will feature the third time that the BMF belt has been up for grabs since its inception in 2019. The belt was first introduced during a main event clash between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz. ‘Gamebred’ walked away with the title before embarking on a four-fight losing streak that would see him exit the promotion, having not once defended the belt.

Jorge Masvidal wins BMF title

In July, Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier squared off at UFC 291 to crown a new BMF titleholder. ‘The Highlight’ scorched Poirier with a perfectly timed head-kick KO in the second round.

“The idea of the ‘BMF’ was built right here in this room,” White told Smith from his Las Vegas office. “There’s always these fights that the fans love, whether it’s a Masvidal vs. Diaz, you know, those types of fights — Gaethje and Holloway. We were sitting in here one day and thought about building this ‘BMF’ title and who’s better fit for this thing than Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway? We thought about it in here. I told the guys, ‘Tell me if I’m crazy, but what do you think of this idea?’ They loved it, the fans love it, and here we go.”

Cody Garbrandt confident a title fight with Sean O'Malley would be a 'huge pay-per-view draw'

Cody Garbrandt looks to continue his comeback tour when he squares off with former flyweight world champion Deiveson Figueiredo.

After dropping five out of six fights inside the Octagon, ‘No Love’ has seen a bit of a resurgence, securing a unanimous decision victory over Trevin Jones before face-planting Brian Kelleher in his last outing at UFC 296. Returning to the Octagon for the promotion’s massive UFC 300 card in Las Vegas, Garbrandt will attempt to hand ‘Deus da Guerra’ his first loss in the bantamweight division and re-establish himself as a legitimate contender for the 135-pound title.

With a win over Figueiredo, Garbrandt would likely thrust himself back into the bantamweight division’s top 10, putting him that much closer to a clash with reigning titleholder ‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley.

“If he’s still the champion when it’s my time to fight for the title again, regain the title, I’m happy with that fight,” Garbrandt said during Wednesday’s UFC media event. “That’s going to be a huge pay-per-view draw. No other bantamweight in the division moves the needle like I do. I just have to focus on winning and everything else will fall into place.”

Could we see Cody Garbrandt climb back into the contender’s circle at UFC 300?

Sean O’Malley is fresh off a dominant performance against Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera at UFC 299, successfully defending his title for the very first time. No official announcements have been made, but ‘Sugar’ recently teased a return this September to put his crown on the line against the division’s No. 1 ranked contender, Merab Dvalishvili.

Cody Garbrandt and Deiveson Figueiredo will lead off UFC 300, an event scheduled to feature a whopping 12 former or current world champions.

Cody Brundage mocks Bo Nickal hype ahead of UFC 300: 'People think he's the second coming of Jesus Christ'

Cody Brundage is tired of hearing all the hype behind Bo Nickal.

When Brundage steps inside the Octagon this Saturday night (April 13) at the UFC’s landmark event in Las Vegas, he will do so as the biggest underdog in the promotion’s 30+ year history. According to DraftKings, Nickal is a -2100 favorite, meaning you would have to throw down $2,100 on the three-time NCAA Division I National Champion to win $100.

Bo Nickal vs. Cody Brundage

Speaking about his role as a +1100 dog during Wednesday’s UFC media event, Brundage likened the ridiculous amount of hype surrounding Nickal to the resurrection of Jesus.

“I think it’s kind of funny,” Brundage said. “I talked to some of my teammates, like Rob Wilkinson who’s a PFL champion. I talked to Anthony Smith and asked, ‘If you think I got booked to fight you tomorrow, you would be a bigger favorite than Bo Nickal?’ They’re like, ‘Probably not.’ The odds are what they are, but sometimes it’s more a narrative of what people think because, at the end of the day, Bo Nickal’s never been hit so for him to be that kind of favorite just seems insane to me.

“Obviously, I’m a little biased, but it seems pretty wild. I know people think he’s like the second coming of Jesus Christ in MMA, but I just don’t see it.”

Bo Nickal vs. Cody Brundage

Can Cody Brundage Bring a Halt to the hype train?

Bo Nickal is a perfect 5-0 in his mixed martial arts career thus far, beginning with a 33-second knockout of John Noland under the iKON FC banner. He followed that up with back-to-back finishes on Dana White’s Contender Series, needing less than two combined minutes to dispatch Zack Borrego and Donovan Beard.

He’s since added two more victories, finishing Jamie Pickett and Val Woodburn in the opening rounds at UFC 285 and UFC 290.

Bo Nickal KOs Val Woodburn

After four fights with the UFC, including his DWCS appearances, Nickal has only absorbed three significant strikes. Cody Brundage — who holds an 80% finish rate in his MMA career — plans on being the first fighter to truly test the former Nittany Lion’s chin at UFC 300.

Aleksandar Rakic is tired of hearing about Jiri Prochazka’s “fake samurai sh*t.”

This Saturday night, April 13, Rakic will look to get back into the win column after going down due to a leg injury in the third round of his clash with former light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz in May 2022. This time, ‘Rocket’ will be tasked with trying to take out another ex-titleholder, Jiri Prochazka.

Aleksandar Rakic vs. Jiri Prochazka

Shortly after their UFC 300 showdown became official, Rakic went on the record calling Prochazka a “clown” and denouncing the Czech’s affinity for the samurai code. “I don’t care about him and this fake samurai shit that he’s doing,” Rakic said in an interview with MMA Junkie.

Jiri Prochazka doing "samurai sh*t"

Rakic echoed a similar sentiment while speaking to members of the media days ahead of the UFC’s next landmark event.

“I said he’s a fake samurai because you cannot become a samurai after just reading a book,” Rakic said at Wednesday’s UFC media event. “If you’re a samurai, you need to live [like] this for a long time and not for the last 2-3 years. So that’s why I said he’s a fake samurai.”

Aleksandar Rakic gunning for a uFC title Opportunity with a win over Prochazka

Aleksandar Rakic is 6-2 under the UFC banner, his lone losses being a split decision to Volkan Oezdemir and his injury TKO against Blachowicz. A win over Jiri Prochazka would undoubtedly be a feather in his cap, as it could put him in a position to challenge the winner of UFC 300’s headlining act between current 205-pound king Alex Pereira and challenger Jamahal Hill.

Aleksandar Rakic vs. Blachowicz

Prochazka looks to bounce back from his first loss inside the Octagon after suffering a second-round KO at the hands of Pereira in November. Overall, ‘Denisa’ is 29-4-1 in MMA, and 3-1 in the UFC.

Max Holloway knows he and Ilia Topuria will fight eventually.

Holloway is set to move up to lightweight at UFC 300 to face Justin Gaethje for the BMF title on Saturday night. It’s an intriguing matchup and the Hawaiian has confidence he can beat Gaethje.

If Holloway does beat Gaethje, he could get a title shot at lightweight, but many hope he returns to featherweight to face Ilia Topuria, but ‘Blessed’ says that the fight will happen eventually.

“This whole Ilia [Topuria] talk, a lot of people just harassing me like ‘oh my god he’s gonna kill Max’. Brother, when I was Ilia’s age I think I had a title defense already. I was fighting for like 3 titles already. Calm down bro, when the time comes and it happens, it’s gonna happen and I look forward to that,” Max Holloway said to Demetrious Johnson.

Holloway is only 32 and became the undisputed champion in 2017 when he was 26, while Topuria is currently 27, so the Hawaiian knows the two of them have plenty of time to fight eventually.

Max Holloway eager to share Octagon with Justin Gaethje

Max Holloway is fighting for the BMF title, but he also is excited to face Justin Gaethje, as he knows both of them are future Hall of Famers.

The fight was sky-high expectations to be entertaining from start-to-finish, and Holloway expects that to be the case as he calls it a Hall of Fame fight.

“I really want my undisputed (featherweight) title back. Then, maybe, we can come back up. But I mean, if (UFC matchmakers) give you a (lightweight) title shot right after this one, what do you say? First things first, and that’s Justin Gaethje. I’m locked in on him because I got to get through him to see the future… At the end of the day, he’s a future Hall of Famer,” Holloway said to UFC.com. “I feel like I might be a future Hall of Famer. This is a Hall of Fame fight. And if you want to be the best guy, you’ve got to fight the best guys.”

Holloway enters the fight coming off a knockout win over Korean Zombie.

Israel Adesanya picks Jamahal Hill to beat Alex Pereira by KO in UFC 300 title fight

Former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has shared his prediction for the UFC 300 main event that sees Alex Pereira defending his light heavyweight title against Jamahal Hill.

Adesanya is very familiar with Pereira, having fought him twice in kickboxing and twice in MMA. ‘The Last Stylebender’ is the last person to beat Pereira, as he knocked him out to win back the middleweight title, which forced the Brazilian up to the light heavyweight division.

Pereira is now 2-0 at light heavyweight and is coming off a knockout win over Jiri Prochazka to win the light heavyweight title. He will look to defend the belt for the first time at UFC 300 against Jamahal Hill, but Adesanya feels like Hill will KO the Brazilian.

“Jamahal I don’t think is scared,” Adesanya said on his YouTube channel (H/T BJPENN). “Scary knockout power, as well. Alex can get knocked out…avoiding the leg kicks is the tricky bit, and I know Jamahal has some remedies for that… Five rounds, going to be a slow start…Jamahal’s going to try to get his fist to Alex’s head, just like he did with Johnny Walker. I’m gonna go Jamahal by knockout, first two and a half [rounds].”

Hill is currently the betting underdog, but Adesanya likes the American to reclaim his light heavyweight title on Saturday at UFC 300.

Jamahal Hill asked Israel Adesanya for advice

Heading into Jamahal Hill’s UFC 300 fight against Alex Pereira, he revealed he went to Israel Adesanya for advice.

Adesanya is very familiar with Pereira and Hill went on FaceTime with him to get some advice.

“[Israel Adesanya was] just giving me some advice and insights on what he’s seen and his experience of being in there fighting Alex,” Hill revealed during the UFC Vegas 90 post-fight show (h/t MMAFighting). “Just basically essentially those things and how to approach and things like that.”

Hill hasn’t fought sine January of 2022 when he beat Glover Teixeira by decision to win the vacant title. However, he tore his Achilles and had to vacate his belt due to the injury.
