Michael Chandler confirms ball is rolling fight with Conor McGregor reveals USADA test recently UFC

Michael Chandler has claimed the ball is now firmly “rolling” on a fight with arch-rival, Conor McGregor next year, revealing he was the subject of recent testing by anti-doping agency, USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) this week – ahead of an expected welterweight clash between the duo.

Chandler, sidelined since November of last year, has yet to feature since he featured on the main card of UFC 281 at Madison Square Garden, dropping an eventual third round rear-naked choke submission loss to common-foe and former interim champion, Dustin Poirier.

Serving as an opposing coach on reality television show, The Ultimate Fighter 31 earlier this year against the Dubliner, Kill Cliff FC staple, Chandler has been pegged to fight McGregor next year – potentially at UFC 300 in April.

Furthermore, motion on a welterweight clash between the two has been set into, according to McGregor, who is set to imminently return to the USADA testing pool this week, after submitting paperwork to organizational leader, Jeff Novitsky at the beginning of this month.

Michael Chandler reveals recent USADA visit to administer test

And according to Chandler, the Missouri native revealed on his official social media that the anti-doping agency had administered a random drug test on him this week, claiming the ball is in motion on a long-awaited battle with McGregor.

“Got a visit from #USADA today… timing is always on point,” Michael Chandler posted on his official X account. “Ball is rolling. See you soon.”

A former three-time Bellator lightweight champion, Chandler has remained steadfast in his stance that he will be fighting Crumlin striker, McGregor in the former two-weight champion’s return to combat sports this month, however, recently hit the headlines after he welcomed a future bout with the veteran, Nate Diaz – before predicting a one-sided triumph to boot.

“Regarding @arielhelwani question about @NateDiaz209 earlier – I had to answer…. and yes, I absolutely bludgeon him and finish him within 2 rounds, he has great cardio, but not in the storm I bring…. but would be a fun fight by two REAL FIGHTERS,” Michael Chandler posted.

Dana White unsure on UFC 300 comeback for Conor McGregor I've nothing planned

Last night confirming former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor has officially submitted paperwork ahead of a re-entry to the USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) testing pool next week, promotional CEO, Dana White has claimed he has no plans at the moment for a UFC 300 comeback for the Dubliner next April.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the banner of the organization, has been sidelined from the Octagon since he headlined UFC 264 back in July 2021, fracturing his left tibia and fibula in a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to Dustin Poirier.

And expected to make a comeback next year against former lightweight title challenger, Michael Chandler at the welterweight limit, McGregor had initially confirmed plans for a December return in the main event of UFC 296 – however, the event has already seen its main event and co-headliner confirmed.

Confirming is plans to return to the USADA testing pool earlier this week ahead of a return to the Octagon next year, McGregor revealed he had submitted paperwork to organizational official, Jeff Novitsky.

“Find my targets,” Conor McGregor posted on his official social media. “Hit them. F*ck the consequences. You’re going down. This is fighting. Sparring day with slick @grozdevnikolay. Always a banger of a spar with the slick fella. Submitted my stuff to (Jeff) Novitsky. Ball rolling (football emoji) see you soon you little lightwork b*tch.”

Dana White coy on UFC 300 comeback for Conor McGregor

And further confirming McGregor’s impending return to the USADA testing pool some stage next week, White admitted that while a timeframe lines up for a potential April return for the ex-champion at UFC 300, he had no current plans in place for the Dubliner’s anticipated comeback.

“I literally have nothing planned with Conor McGregor right now,” Dana White told assembled media after UFC Vegas 80. “The [USADA] paperwork is being submitted, we’ll play it by ear, see how things work out – there’s still a lot of things that need to happen, as far as fights go. And then we’ll decide where he’s gonna land.”

Conor McGregor

MMA journalist Dave Schmulenson, better known by fight fans as The Schmo believes Conor McGregor only has one fight left in him before walking away from mixed martial arts altogether.

It’s been more than two years since the Irishman suffered a devastating leg break in the opening round of his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. Since then, McGregor has managed to keep his name in the headlines by calling out practically every fighter on the roster whilst continually insisting that his return to the Octagon is imminent. Originally, fans expected to see the former two-division titleholder back in action in December at UFC 296, but after failing to re-enter the USADA testing pool for a required six months of pre-fight screening, his comeback was pushed back to sometime in 2024.

As for his opponent, many assume it will be former Bellator champion Michael Chandler, the man McGregor competed against during his stint as a coach on the 31st season of The Ultimate Fighter. However, that is certainly not the only option.

Speaking with Mike Owens in a LowKick MMA exclusive, The Schmo suggested that McGregor will likely return for one big final fight at UFC 300 next year which could very well be against Michael Chandler. But it’s also possible that the Irishman may book himself a long-awaited trilogy fight with Nate Diaz for his UFC swan song.

“Is Conor McGregor gonna fight Michael Chandler or is Conor McGregor going to come back and have the Nate Diaz trilogy? I truly feel like if Conor McGregor comes back to the UFC, he’s got one fight left and is it going to be [Michael Chandler] or is it going to be the trilogy with Nate Diaz, which he’s always promised?

“What’s going to be super interesting to watch is UFC 300 is around the corner and that is a huge deal. Going to fall in April, or March at the earliest, and what are they going to do there? Because if Conor McGregor is on the [UFC] 300 fight card, he’s the main event. What are they going to do? They’re not going to stack it with title fights. Or on the flip side, do they stake with title fights and they have three or four title fights for UFC 300? Then Conor McGregor wouldn’t be on that card.”

Diaz and McGregor first competed at UFC 296 in 2016 with the ‘Stockton Samurai’ scoring a second-round submission. Five months later, the pair would run it back at UFC 202 with ‘The Notorious’ earning a majority decision victory to even the series at 1-1.

If The Schmo’s words prove to be true and McGregor only has one fight left, would you rather it be against ‘Iron’ Michael Chandler or familiar foe Nate Diaz?

Paul Felder targeted to make return at UFC 300 next year

Former lightweight contender, Paul Felder is reportedly expected to make his long-rumored return to the Octagon at UFC 300 next year, as speculation continues to mount regarding a would-be four-year retirement snapping return to combat sports competition.

Felder, 39, has been sidelined from active competition since he featured atop a UFC Apex facility card against former undisputed lightweight champion, Rafael dos Anjos back in November 2020, suffering a one-sided split decision loss to the Brazilian in a short-notice main event clash.

The defeat came as Philadelphia native, Paul Felder’s second on the bounce, following a close, debated split decision loss to Dan Hooker in a UFC Fight Night Auckland headliner back in February of that year as the pair turned in a Fight of the Night viewing.

And calling time on his storied career in the year following his subsequent final outing against dos Anjos, Felder has since switched his focus to color-commentary and analyst work, featuring on countless ‘Fight Night’ billed cards as well as pay-per-view events for the UFC.

However, earlier this summer, reports appeared to suggest that Felder was considering a return to the sport, with the Roufusport staple confirming he had returned to the USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) testing pool, ahead of a potential return to the sport.

“I have no idea,’ Paul Felder said. “I rolled with Michael (Chiesa) today. Honest to God, it blew up on social. I’m back training, I’m enjoying MMA again.”

“For all the people that think I need a complete both hip replacements, I have bad hips there’s no secret about that. I’ve had bad hips for years, but I am back in the USADA testing pool. That’s exactly where I’m at now, but that is it. That is it. I did it just in case, I’m getting old and there might be some old dudes out there that might want to dust it up in six months. Other than that, I have no idea. I’m enjoying training.”

Paul Felder targeted to make a return to the Octagon at UFC 300 next year

And according to reports earlier this week from The Schmo, Felder is currently targeted to make a return to the Octagon at UFC 300 in the opening quarter of next year, with an opponent or weight class for the former’s return still yet to be disclosed.

Without a victory since a 2019 appearance in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Felder landed a close split decision win over Edson Barboza in the pair’s lightweight rematch.

While McGregor has not fought actively for some time now, it has not stopped him from calling out countless fighters. This time it was the shot of Alexander Volkanovski, who would be on the receiving end of one of the Irishman’s classic social media message.

“Ask my bollox that little sausage volkonovski is no way p4p 1,” McGregor wrote. “Silly. That’s quick work for me. 100% accuracy work. Readable. Hittable. Hurtable. I like he has this title tho we should fight at some stage so the FW goats will have all faced off and let there be no debate.”

Volkanovski would quickly respond to the 35-year-old, calling for the showdown to take place on the upcoming UFC 300 card.

Alexander Volkanovski talks Conor McGregor fight

Talking on The MMA Fan Podcast, Volkanovski spoke about the matchup against McGregor and how he compares to him in terms of featherweight status.

It’s pretty easy for me in saying Conor McGregor because he was in featherweight,” Volkanovski said. “He was a featherweight. We’ve got to remember the champions I’ve beat. I’ve beaten every other champion in the featherweight division.

“The only champ I haven’t fought in the featherweight division is Conor McGregor. Conor McGregor in his prime in featherweight division would obviously be the all-time – I’m sure everyone would want to see that right now. If we could make that happen right now, somehow get prime Conor vs. prime Volk, it would be pretty special.” (H/T MMA Mania)

Volkanovski is set to take on Ilia Topuria as his next defence of the 145lb crown, while McGregor is ‘supposed’ to be taking on Michael Chandler next but the entire situation is very unclear.

Alexander Volkanovski calls for UFC 300 title rematch with Islam Makhachev that makes sense

Undisputed featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski may be expected to continue at 145lbs for the foreseeable future, with a title defense against Ilia Topuria, however, the Australian is already weighing up a potential lightweight return against Islam Makhachev in a title rematch proposal for UFC 300 next year.

Volkanovski, the current number one ranked pound-for-pound fighter under the UFC banner alongside incumbent heavyweight champion, Jon Jones – most recently headlined UFC 290 back in July during International Fight Week, successfully unifying the titles in a TKO victory over then-interim champion, Yair Rodríguez.

Yet to be booked to make his return to the Octagon in the time since, Volkanovski has been pegged to fight Georgian contender, Topuria in his comeback, with the latter continuing his winning spree with a headlining win over Josh Emmett earlier this summer in dominant fashion.

Alexander Volkanovski eyes UFC 300 title re-run with Islam Makhachev

However, with eyes fixed on next month’s UFC 294 title fight rematch between Makhachev and Brazilian favorite, Charles Oliveira, Volkanovski has staked his claim for his own rematch with the Russian, potentially atop a UFC 300 card next year.

“That makes a lot of sense,” Alexander Volkanovski told assembled media during UFC 293. “Yeah, for sure. I think that it’ll be great, especially if we get my hand raised for that one. UFC 300 would be perfect, But again, we’ll see what we can do but I think that’s one of the bigger fights that we can make.”

“I truly do believe that people want to see it again,” Alexander Volkanovski explained. “It’s very competitive and I guarantee you I’ll get it done next time.”

Initially sharing the Octagon back in February in the main event of UFC 284 in Perth, Australia, Volkanovski suffered his first promotional loss in a lightweight title pursuit against Makhachev, dropping a close decision loss.
