Ahead of his own return to combat sports in just weeks time, Nate Diaz already has sights set on an incoming return to the UFC, in the form of a trilogy rubber match against two-time foe, Conor McGregor – ideally at The Las Vegas Sphere in September at UFC 306.

Diaz, a former undisputed lightweight title challenger and victor of The Ultimate Fighter, will return to combat sports next month in ‘Sin City’ – taking on another former UFC star, Jorge Masvidal in a rematch of their 2019 fight at Madison Square Garden.

As for McGregor, the former duel-weight champion was slated to make his comeback this weekend at UFC 303 during International Fight Week, until a fractured toe on his left foot prevented him from taking on Michael Chandler in a return to the welterweight limit.

Forever linked with a decider against two-time opponent, Diaz, Dublin striker, McGregor has continually welcomed the opportunity to take on the Stockton veteran, ultimately to no avail yet.

However, announcing plans for an August return – if not a feature at The Las Vegas Sphere for a Riyadh Season Noche UFC event in September, McGregor’s plans have already been shot down by UFC boss, Dana White.

And ahead of his scrap with Masvidal inside the squared circle, Diaz has echoed his desire to take on the former duel-weight champion – as soon as UFC 306 – claiming a third bout between the two needs to take place sooner than later.

“I want to get this [Jorge Masvida] fight out of the way before I start thinking about the future,” Nate Diaz told Give Me Sport during a recent interview. “But I would like to fight him (Conor McGregor) and I would like to fight him in a rematch in MMA. At UFC 306, it would be great, if that were an option, but if not, then in the future, in the UFC, at some point.”

“I see it as a fight that needs to happen,” Nate Diaz continued. “We got the second out of the way, and the third should have happened straight away, also. And at some point, it’s going to happen.”

Dominick Cruz eyes rematch with Henry Cejudo at UFC 306 I think we'd make an awesome fight

Former two-time undisputed bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz has voiced his interest in a rematch clash against former duel-weight titleholder, Henry Cejudo later this summer at UFC 306 in The Sphere, claiming they could put on an “awesome” rematch fight.

Cruz, a former two-time bantamweight titleholder and current number thirteen ranked divisional challenger, has been out of action since August 2022, most recently headlining a UFC Fight Night San Diego event.

And despite starting well against most recent title challenger, Marlon Vera, Cruz dropped a devastating fourth round high-kick KO loss to the Ecuadorian.

Linked with a return earlier this year, Cruz was reportedly in talks to take on the returning former featherweight champion, Jose Aldo in a ‘super fight’ from years gone by, until an undisclosed injury ruled the veteran from a UFC 301 outing.

However, Cruz has welcomed the chance to feature at UFC 306 in September at The Sphere in Las Vegas – eyeing the chance to take on Olympic gold medal winner, Cejudo in a re-run.

“There’s a Mexico Independence Day card coming up, and I lost a fight,” Dominick Cruz said on the Overdogs Podcast. “I look back at my loss and I lost it fair and square to Henry Cejudo, but I do believe he could get a better version of me and really face a better version of me.”

“I’ve had rematches against (Joseph) Benavidez, I’ve had rematches against Urijah Faber, I’ve had rematches against that whole Team Alpha MMA where I had to take each guy out, step by step, in order to keep my title,” Dominick Cruz explained. “So, I would love to a rematch with Henry Cejudo on Mexican Independence Day in The Sphere. I think we could make a pretty awesome fight there.”

Sean O'Malley reveals timeline for title fight with Merab Dvalishvili I'm hoping for The Sphere still

UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley has revealed some potential dates for his upcoming title defense against Meran Dvalishvili.

After O’Malley defeated Marlon Vera to defend his title for the first time at UFC 299, he said Dvalishvili would be next. However, currently, no date for the title fight has been set. But, speaking to MMAFighting, Sean O’Malley revealed some potential dates for the title fight.

“It’s going to happen. It’s going to happen this year,” O’Malley told MMA Fighting. “I don’t have a date for your guys, unfortunately. UFC told me at the end of the month, they’ll have a date for me. I’m guessing, I’m hoping for the Sphere still. I’ve been pushing for that for a while but if not the Sphere, December in Vegas. Either one, I do think it will be in Vegas. It’s one of those two dates.”

The hope for O’Malley is to have it in September at The Sphere as he wants to fight sooner rather than later, but knows his fight will be in Vegas.

“Of course, I’d rather fight September [rather] than December,” O’Malley said. “But whatever UFC says, I’m ready to go.”

Sean O’Malley Says Merab Dvalishvili Is ‘Very Dangerous’

Sean O’Malley knows Merab Dvalishvili is a tough fight for him but he has confidence he will prove people wrong again.

O’Malley says he’s been training for Dvalishvili since his last fight which has made him confident going into the potential fight.

“We’ve been training specifically for Merab since the Chito fight,” O’Malley said. “That’s next and I’m training hard right now, prepared for whatever. We’re 14 weeks out from the Sphere so I’m not training, not full camp but if that’s the date, I’ll get right into camp. But I won’t know until the end of June.”

Ultimately, O’Malley is ready for the challenge as he says Dvalishvili will be one of the toughest opponents he’s fought. But, he has confident he will be able to find that KO shot.

“He’s up there. He’s definitely up there,” O’Malley said when ranking Dvalishvili among his opponents. “I think Aljo was the toughest to fight in the division for me. But 100 percent, Merab is up there. He’s very dangerous. He’s got a good gas tank. He’s hard to finish. That’s a very dangerous combination. We’ll have to wait and see.”

Sean O’Malley is currently 18-1 as a pro with one No Contest.

Urijah Faber unsure Sean O'Malley beats Merab Dvalishvili that's a bad matchup for him

Urijah Faber recently spoke with us here at Lowkick MMA and gave his thoughts on how the current bantamweight champion, Sean O’Malley, would fare against what many consider to be his toughest challenger yet: Merab Dvalishvili.

It seems almost fated that O’Malley and Dvalishvili will fight for the title. ‘Suga’ keeps icing everybody the UFC puts in his way, and Dvalishvili has been a seemingly unstoppable force in the 135lbs division for a long time now. ‘The Machine’ is currently riding an astonishing 10-fight win streak inside the UFC, and it’s getting virtually impossible to deny him a title shot now.

The debate of Sean O’Malley vs Merab Dvalishvili is an intriguing one. Some don’t see how O’Malley will be able to contain the near nonstop pressure of ‘The Machine’, while others believe ‘Suga’ will rise to the occasion. Urijah Faber was kind enough to weigh in on this matter and provide his opinion as a UFC hall-of-famer and elite MMA coach.

Urijah Faber weighs in on the matchup between Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili

“I think it’s going to be hard to say,” Urijah Faber told LowKick MMA reporter Makoa Goble when asked how O’Malley might handle the offensive wrestling pressure that ‘The Machine’ can bring to the table. “You would think so, but nobody else has been able to (stop the wrestling), even Henry Cejudo.”

Merab Dvalishvili’s smothering wrestling pressure has been unstoppable so far. Many have accurately described ‘The Machine’ as a ‘grinder’, and it is true. For the most part, he simply gives his opponents no quarter and no room to breathe.

Sean O'Malley

“Honestly, that’s a bad matchup for O’Malley,” Faber continued. “Because Merab is so durable. That dude is durable. He’s gone against some killers, and just kind of walked through their best offense. The only time he’s really been hurt is when he knocked himself out, slamming himself, ya know.”

“But, O’Malley has got that It factor. He’s got a finesse about him, he’s got like a matador type of style. Merab is definitely a bull, and If O’Malley can have his perfect fight, he’ll just be tagging him with clean shots and staying on the outside. O’Malley’s grappling is really good. I’ve trained with some of his training partners, and they are really high-level training partners… It could go either way.”

Aljamain Sterling rips sad champion Sean O'Malley you're not a real man my guy

Former undisputed bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling has hit out at past foe, current division titleholder, Sean O’Malley – claiming the Montana native is cherrypicking his fights, as he struggles to land a date for a rumored clash with Merab Dvalishvili.

Sterling, a former undisputed bantamweight champion, made his featherweight divisional debut with aplomb last month at UFC 300 – turning in a dominant unanimous decision win over perennial contender, Calvin Kattar.

The outing came as Uniondale native, Sterling’s first since he dropped bantamweight spoils against O’Malley back in August of last year, courtesy of a second round KO defeat.

And fresh from a similarly one-sided decision win of his own against Marlon Vera at UFC 299 back in March, O’Malley has been heavily linked with a pairing against the surging number one contender, Dvalishvili – a close friend and training partner of Sterling.

Replying to Dvalishvili’s claims that he would beat O’Malley and then his head coach, Tim Welch – the champion warned him that he would beat the Georgian’s best friend, in a sneering jibe at Sterling.

Drawing a fiery response from Serra-Longo MMA staple, Sterling – the ex-champion urged O’Malley to actually fight a top contender next, before labelling a “sorry” titleholder.

“You’re a sorry champion,” Aljamain Sterling posted on his official X account in response to Sean O’Malley. “Keep bragging about a handicapped fight to give you the best odds to win. You’re not a real man, my guy. ‘Don’t try to duck the number one contender again to fight number 15 this time or some other pointless lame fight.”

As for a return to the Octagon, Sterling has been linked with a main event clash against the surging Russian grappler, Movsar Evloev in what would come as his sophomore outing at the featherweight limit.
