Dana White Blasts UFC 307 Officiating: ‘Just Madness… Atrocious’

Dana White

UFC judges and referees have always erred on the controversial side, and at UFC 307, they made multiple decisions that left many people scratching their heads.

Chief among those who were annoyed by the officiating at UFC 307 was UFC president Dana White. Like always, White didn’t hold back when it came time to discuss the frustrating decisions made by the officials, and he let his thoughts be known to the world.

The first annoyance was the referee’s decision to let Mario Bautista stall Jose Aldo out against the cage in the last round of their fight. White maintained that it is the referee’s job to prevent fighters from stalling out the fight, and he was not too happy that Bautista was able to do this against Aldo and quite literally clinch a split-decision victory over the legend.

Dana White vents about terrible judging and referee’s at UFC 307

“I always think that the referee should be more active on that, 100%, especially when somebody keeps doing it to stall,” White told the media during the UFC 307 post-fight press conference (H/T MMA Mania). “You guys aren’t going to f—king let up on this, are you? I guess we’ll get into it. If you’re judging a guy, whether it is control, if it’s this or that, if you’re not trying to fight, how do you win the fight? Right? And if you’re looking at attempted takedowns, what about stuffing the takedowns? Just madness.”

“When you can tell that the guy definitely doesn’t want to stand and strike and just wants to stall against the fence. Yes, the refs, that’s their job,” Dana White continued. “When they see it continually happening and that the guy is not trying to win the fight, then you keep breaking them up…I mean, it’s common sense when the guy keeps doing it and is doing everything he can to not fight and not win the fight. As a ref, you should break it up immediately.”

The second frustration of the night was due to the poor judging. Several decisions on the card seemed wrong, and many fellow fighters, media members, and fans seemingly unanimously scored the fight the other way. When asked about this, Dana White didn’t hesitate to comment on that as well.

“I thought the judging tonight was atrocious,” White sighed, not amused. “I felt like I was at a boxing match in Ireland tonight.”

Do you agree with Dana White’s sentiments about the atrocious officiating at UFC 307?

Khalil Rountree had nothing but respect for victorious opponent Alex Pereira following their title fight at UFC 307 this past weekend.

The pair headlined Saturday’s pay-per-view in Salt Lake City, battling for the right to exit the Delta Center as UFC light heavyweight champion.

Defending king “Poatan” was heavily favored to do so, having already turned away threats to his reign from Jamahal Hill and Ji?í Procházka this year. Rountree, though, turned out to be the Brazilian’s toughest test to date.

The challenger got off to a strong start, winning the opening two rounds on all three scorecards. But after getting on the board in round three, Pereira went to work in the fourth frame.

An onslaught of strikes left Rountree’s face swollen and bloodied, and Pereira was ultimately able to close the show in what marked his first taste of the championship rounds since capturing the middleweight crown almost two years ago.

Rountree Releases First Statement On UFC 307 Title Defeat

Soon after having his title ambitions stalled in the “Beehive State,” Rountree took to social media to reflect on the result and experience.

Following his failure to unseat Pereira, “The War Horse” paid tribute to “Poatan,” thanking the Brazilian for bringing out a “new version” of him at UFC 307.

“I didn’t win the title but I grew last night. @alexpoatanpereira thanks for helping me see that I’m ready to take on the world,” Rountree wrote. “You showed amazing skill, you brought out a version of me that I needed to experience. You’re the champ for a reason, much respect. But I now know what I am capable of.

#saltlakecity you guys were amazing and gave me such a memorable experience. I appreciate all of the positive messages from everyone around the world. @danawhite @espn @espnmma and the entire @ufc staff, thanks for giving me a home, a place to have purpose and providing me with challenges to overcome,” Rountree continued. “Brazil ?? you guys have a strong champion, be proud. I will take time to heal from this, I’ll be back even better, it’s inevitable. I’m grateful. Never give up on yourself, always fight hard, uplift your communities and find ways to make the most out of life.”

It remains to be seen what lies ahead for Rountree, who was granted his first shot at title glory on MMA’s biggest stage from #8 in the rankings.

With that, an upset win would have marked the 34-year-old as the lowest-ranked fighter to capture gold in their division. And although that didn’t come to fruition, things initially looked promising through 10 minutes.

After UFC 307 Win, Kayla Harrison Declares Plan to Bring Amanda Nunes Back, 'Take Everything' and Prove She’s the GOAT

After her impressive win at UFC 307, Kayla Harrison is looking to capture UFC gold and then bring Amanda Nunes out of retirement for one final showdown.

Kayla Harrison

Since making her UFC debut, Kayla Harrison has impressed international MMA fans by submitting former champion Holly Holm and then defeating the top-ranked Ketlen Vieira. At UFC 307, “The Venezuelan Vixen” Julianna Peña took back her UFC bantamweight crown. This will set up a future showdown between Harrison and Peña with UFC gold on the line. But afterward, the US-born Harrison wants Amanda Nunes.

After winning gold medals at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics for Judo with Team USA, she transitioned to mixed martial arts, Harrison made her professional debut in 2018. She was able to become a two-time PFL MMA world champion over consecutive years and now competes in the UFC.

Amanda Nunes

Amanda Nunes is a retired Brazilian mixed martial artist regarded as the greatest female fighter in the history of the sport. She began her professional MMA career in 2008 and quickly made a name for herself in the UFC. Nunes is notable for being the first woman to hold titles in two weight classes simultaneously, having been the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion and the Featherweight Champion.

Throughout her career, she achieved numerous accolades, including victories over prominent fighters like Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate, and Cris Cyborg. She announced her retirement from MMA in June 2023 after successfully defending her bantamweight title.

On a podcast ahead of UFC 307, Kayla Harrison explained the plan. She outlined:

“I’m about to get this belt [UFC women’s bantamweight championship]. I’m going to get another belt, lure Amanda [Nunes] out of retirement and I’m going to f*cking take everything that she’s ever worked for and then Henry [Cejudo] is going to owe me 100 anytime pushups. And he will no longer be the greatest combat of all time.” [Ht Sportskeeda]

Stephen Thompson and Joaquin Buckley fought in the UFC 307 prelims and after two competitive rounds, “Wonderboy” was knocked out in the third. This was just the second KO/TKO loss of his career.

Interestingly, Buckley took out Thompson with a leaping overhand right preceded by a literal jump. Five years ago, Anthony Pettis launched himself with the help of the cage and knocked out the Karate specialist with a similar bouncing superman punch.

The former UFC welterweight title challenger was doing great until he wasn’t, though. Here’s what he said after the crushing KO loss at UFC 307…

Stephen Thompson Looks Back At First KO Loss To Anthony Pettis As Joaquin Buckley Used A Similar Technique At UFC 307

“Wonderboy” took to Twitter recently to discuss his second UFC loss in a row. He admitted to not remembering how he got to the hotel and was humble in defeat as usual.

The veteran simply wanted to thank the fans for their continued support. Salt Lake City is known for its energetic crowd which, contrary to many other venues, shows up even before the main card begins. UFC 307 was no different, and Thompson seemed delighted with the fans cheering during his walkout.

The American fighter also pointed out that both KO losses in his career resulted from overhand rights. While Pettis used the Octagon to gain momentum, Buckley backed up “Wonderboy” against the cage to land the knockout punch.

“Just got back to the hotel, although we don’t know how I got here. But again, I get knocked out by an overhand. Once by Pettis, either on the cage or off the cage. Either way, it is what it is. I want to say thank you to all of my fans. You guys really showed out for me as I walked out there. You guys have shown me so much support over the years and I really do appreciate it.”

Based on the scorecards revealed later, it seems like the third round would’ve decided the outcome of the fight. Derek Cleary had it 19-19 going into the third while Sal D’Amato and Stephen Faragher had it 20-18 for Buckley and Thompson, respectively.

‘It’s Ungodly’ – Joe Rogan Shares Marc Goddard’s Startling Comment on Alex Pereira’s Devastating Power

Longtime MMA referee Marc Goddard made a series of chilling remarks about Alex Pereira during a brief interaction with Joe Rogan after UFC 307.

Pereira defeated Khalil Rountree Jr. by fourth-round TKO to retain the UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 307. After a back-and-forth first three rounds of action, Pereira poured it on at the start of the championship rounds and systematically broke down his opponent with his striking.

Rogan and Goddard have been two staples of mixed martial arts during the sport’s rapid ascension. While both of them have seen almost every type of fighting style inside the Octagon, Pereira’s UFC run is unprecedented.

So unprecedented that Goddard puts Pereira’s power in a class of its own, as he discussed with Rogan just before the official UFC 307 result was announced.

Joe Rogan Reveals Chilling Conversation About Alex Pereira’s Power

Near the end of the UFC 307 broadcast, Rogan shared his post-fight conversation with Goddard.

“I was in the octagon after the fight and Marc Goddard came up to me and he said, ‘I’ve been doing this for 20 years. The way he hits people, the sound, is like nothing I’ve ever heard before.’ He said, ‘It’s ungodly.’” Rogan said. “That’s what he kept saying, he said, ‘It’s ungodly.’” (h/t SportsKeeda)

Pereira set the promotional record for the fewest UFC bouts to win multiple world titles. After finishing Rountree at UFC 307, Pereira has successfully defended the light heavyweight title three times in seven months.

Goddard officiated some of the most notable bouts in UFC history, including Pereira’s first UFC title win at UFC 281. During his extensive fighting and officiating career, one fighter’s power stands alone for Goddard.

UFC superstar Conor McGregor made a massive gamble on the UFC 307 main event between Alex Pereira and Khalil Rountree Jr.

McGregor’s leap of faith paid off massively.

McGregor was supposed to make his UFC return against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in June. But, he withdrew from the event due to a toe injury, and his planned UFC comeback is indefinitely postponed.

As McGregor enjoys life away from the Octagon, he took in an eventful evening at UFC 307. Watching from afar, McGregor decided to place a $1 million wager on Pereira vs. Rountree ending inside the five-round distance.

Pereira vs. Rountree ended up being a bloody war for as long as the fight lasted. After Rountree gave Pereira some early-round troubles, Pereira put it on him in the later rounds, and eventually finished the action in Round 4.

McGregor, after winning the bet, took to social media to praise the UFC 307 main event fighters.

“I AM PUTTING A MILLION U.S. DOWN ON A KO TAKING PLACE ONE WAY OR THE OTHER HERE IN THIS MAIN EVENT, @DuelbitsOdds are 1/5. A million wins back $200k. Let’s see…” McGregor said in a since-deleted tweet. (h/t talkSPORT)

McGregor then confirmed Pereira’s TKO win earned himself a $200k profit.

“$200k baby! THE RICH GET RICHER! Called it play by play! What a fighter, Poatan! Incredible!” McGregor said.

McGregor isn’t a stranger to placing massive wagers on fights. He’s bet big on boxing and MMA fights in recent years since his 2021 leg injury.

After securing a $200k profit, McGregor turns his attention to following up on a combat sports comeback. In the meantime, he continues to enjoy life away from the combat spotlight.
