Tyson Pedro has pulled from his UFC Auckland matchup against Vinicius Moreira due to an injury.

Pedro made the announcement official on his Instagram page. Pedro noted that he will not be fighting Moreira at UFC Auckland, which takes place on February 22, due to an injury. However, he did not specify what exactly the injury was.

“Peaks and Valleys Just when you think everything is going to your plan something hits you upside the head with a different one. Out of the fight in Feb, I’m gutted but thank you for all the messages. I’m not stressed as I know I’m coming back, I’ve never stopped before, so I’m not going to now.

“Every time I’ve messed up in life, been injured or blind sighted, something good came out from it, that I couldn’t see at the time. So until then, it’s all smiles and time to grind again. A massive positive was being able to connect and train with the boys down @citykickboxing thanks for having my family come through and showing us love. I’m praying for good news from the surgeon and a quick turnaround”

Pedro is currently on a two-fight losing streak, his most recent outing being a TKO loss to former 205-pound champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC Adelaide in December of 2018. He underwent knee reconstruction surgery which kept him out-of-action for all of 2019. However, his 2020 return will now have to wait.

UFC lightweight competitor Paul Felder has signed a new multi-fight deal with the UFC. MMA Fighting confirmed the news with Felder’s manager Brian Butler of Suckerpunch Entertainment.

Details surrounding the new deal were not made public. Butler noted the new deal came along with Felder’s bout agreement to fight Dan Hooker at UFC Auckland on February 23. Felder is said to be “very happy” with the new terms. Since joining the UFC in 2014, Felder has quickly risen to the top ranks of the 155-pound division.

During that time, Felder has proven to be one of the more entertaining combatants to grace the UFC’s Octagon as well. Felder is currently on a two-fight win streak, last defeating Edson Barboza at UFC 242 in September. Currently the No. 6-ranked lightweight in the UFC, Felder has the opportunity to make quite a statement in enemy territory against Hooker in New Zealand.

Aside from his work inside the Octagon, Felder has also been part of the UFC’s broadcast team as a color commentator. The 35-year-old has managed to keep very busy during his time with the UFC, and it looks like he continues to be a part of the Las Vegas-based mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion’s plans moving forward.

Following the news that Paul Felder and Dan Hooker would headline the UFC’s return to Auckland on February 23, another three fights have been added to the card.

Light heavyweight Tyson Pedro features as he returns to action for the first time since his TKO defeat to Mauricio Rua last year against Vinicius Moreira.

Pedro has lost three of his last four bouts after entering the promotion as an unbeaten prospect. A win against Moreira — loser of his last three outings — would signal the Aussie’s first win in nearly two years.

Another Aussie in Jake Matthews will look to make it two wins in a row when he faces Emil Meek in a welterweight bout. The 25-year-old was previously on a three-fight winning streak until he was submitted by Anthony Rocco Martin in December last year. He would bounce back with a conservative unanimous decision win over Rostem Akman at UFC 243 last month.

Meek, meanwhile, is on a two-fight losing streak and hasn’t fought since getting outpointed by Bartosz Fabinski in July 2018. His loss before that was a unanimous decision defeat to current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

Lastly, Ben Sosoli looks to get his first UFC win when he meets Marcos Rogerio de Lima. Sosoli made his debut in a now-overturned decision defeat to Greg Hardy last month.

Rogerio de Lima, on the other hand, has been alternating between wins and losses since 2015. His last outing was a submission defeat to Stefan Struve.
