Jalin Turner lands vicious first round KO win over Bobby Green at UFC Austin

Short-notice replacement, Jalin Turner has snapped his two-fight losing skid tonight in the co-main event of UFC Austin tonight in Texas, laying waste to fan-favorite striker, Bobby Green with a first round KO — with commentators and pundits alike voicing their concern with a controversial stoppage from referee, Kerry Hatley.

Turner, who replaced would-be common-foe, Dan Hooker in tonight’s short-notice lightweight clash with Green at UFC Austin, managed to turned in a dominant first round win over the San Bernardino native, crushing him on the feet with a slew of strikes.

Handing Green his first loss in three fights following back-to-back stoppage triumphs over both former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson and highly-touted prospect, Grant Dawson earlier this year.

Clipping Green with a right hand which drew a wobble from the Californian, Turner, who immediately pounced and landed a slew of further follow-up strikes, eventually rendered the former unconscious with a barrage of ground strikes, with referee, Hatley receiving some warranted flak for his untimely stoppage of the action.

Sean Brady

Welterweight standout Sean Brady got back into the win column in a big way at UFC Austin on Saturday night.

More than a year removed from the first loss of his mixed martial arts career, Brady delivered a dominant performance against former UFC interim title challenger Kelvin Gastelum. The TUF alumnus had no answer to Brady’s perfectly-timed takedowns which kept Gastelum in a compromising position for a majority of the contest.

In the third round, Brady scored yet another takedown in the opening seconds and quickly moved into mount. Fishing for an arm triangle, Gastelum worked his way out of the hold but gave up his arm in the process which allowed Brady to snatch the limb and lock in an armbar that forced Gastelum to tap out.

Official Result: Sean Brady def. Kelvin Gastelum via submission (armbar) at 1:43 of Round 3.

Miesha Tate lands dominant rear-naked choke submission win over Julia Avila at UFC Austin

Turning in one of the most dominant performances of her entire mixed martial arts career, former bantamweight champion, Miesha Tate is back in the winner’s enclosure — snapping a two-fight losing skid tonight in her 135 pound comeback, taking home a one-sided third round rear-naked choke submission win over Julia Avila in the featured preliminary bout of UFC Austin.

Tate, who had been sidelined since suffering a unanimous decision loss to Lauren Murphy in the pair’s title-eliminator at the flyweight limit in Long Island last summer, managed to assert her dominance from the onset and throughout the clash with Avila tonight in ‘The Lone Star State’ — eventually forcing the issue in the third round en route to a very likely dominant decision win in Texas.

Washington native, Tate, a former undisputed UFC and Strikeforce bantamweight champion, landed her first stoppage win since landing the most recent of those crowns at UFC 196 back in 2016 in a title win win over Holly Holm, submitting Avila with a third round rear-naked choke victory.

Drakkar Klose

Drakkar Klose knocked his UFC Austin opponent Joe Solecki out cold with a brutal slam in the opening round.

Things looked rough for Klose in the early going of the bout as Solecki landed an early takedown. With Klose looking to fight his way back up, Solecki was able to snatch Klose’s arm, teasing a potential armbar. In an attempt to escape, Klose went old school by muscling Solecki up off the ground and slamming him back down directly onto the side of his face.

The impact immediately rendered Solecki unconscious, forcing the referee to step in and call for the stoppage in what will undoubtedly become an immediate contender for Knockout of the Year.

Official Result: Drakkar Close def. Joe Solecki via KO (slam) at 1:41 of Round 1.

Bobby Green

New footage has emerged following a confrontation between UFC Austin headliners Bobby Green and Arman Tsarukyan.

Though they won’t be stepping inside the Octagon with one another on Saturday night, that didn’t stop Tsarukyan from attempting to kickstart a scrap in the middle of a hotel lobby after taking exception to some disparaging remarks Bobby Green made about his fighting style.

Green initially revealed his side of the story via Instagram and, as it turns out, he was by no means embellishing. On Friday, Tsarukyan released his footage from the confrontation, which shows him briefly grabbing Green’s throat.

In the video, Tsarukyan approaches a seated Bobby Green and says, “You’re talking sh*t about me.” Green repeats Tsarukyan’s words, then tells Tsarukyan to “get your people out of my face.”

We can do one on one,” Tsarukyan says, to which Green replies, “We can do whatever you want to do.”

After a few more moments of the two fighters jawing at one another, Green appears to shove Tsarukyan’s shoulder. Tsarukyan responds by grabbing Green’s neck before being quickly separated. Tsarukyan and his team then head to the elevators but return to confront Green again when they hear that ‘King’ is still hanging around the lobby.

Bobby Green can be heard repeatedly shouting, “You started it” (h/t MMA Fighting).

The stage has been set for their potential showdown inside the Octagon, but first, each man will have to get past their respective opponents in The Lone Star State. Green will step into the UFC Austin co-main event for a clash with short-notice replacement Jalin Turner after his original opponent, Dan Hooker, withdrew from the bout after sustaining an arm injury while training.

Tsarukyan will look to continue his climb up the lightweight ladder in a main event matchup pitting him against perennial contender Beneil Dariush.

Miesha Tate weighs up retirement after UFC Austin this chapter is going to close

Former undisputed bantamweight champion, Miesha Tate has revealed she is uncertain if this weekend’s Octaton appearance against Julia Avila at UFC Austin may be her final final, claiming her “chapter” in mixed martial arts is most definitely approaching it’s end, however.

Tate, the current number twelve ranked bantamweight contender, has been sidelined since suffering a unanimous decision loss to former flyweight title challenger, Lauren Murphy in the pair’s title eliminator at UFC on ABC 3 back in July of last year in the ex-champion’s first flyweight walk.

Miesha Tate weighs up impending retirement

Attempting to snap her two-fight losing run this weekend in a bantamweight return against Avila in Texas, Tate who approaches her fourth fight since making a stunning retirement-snapping return back in 2021, claimed she is closer than ever to finally slamming the door permanently closed on her professional career.

“At some point, this chapter is going to close, and I certainly think that I’m much closer to the end of it than I ever have been before,” Miesha Tate told assembled media during her availability ahead of UFC Austin. “It didn’t stop with my last fight. I don’t know if it’ll stop after this fight.”

“I really feel like any fight at any point could be my final fight,” Miesha Tate explained. “And I’m okay with that because I built an emperor-worthy life. Wins and losses don’t define me anymore.”

Boasting a 19-9 professional record, Tate managed to win the undisputed bantamweight championship at UFC 196 back in 2016, submitting fellow former champion, Holly Holm with a rallying fifth round rear-naked choke win over the Albuquerque native.

Back in 2011, Tate landed the Strikeforce bantamweight title with a third round arm-triangle submission win over Marloes Coenen to boot.

Over the course of her storied mixed martial arts career, Tate has landed other notable wins over the likes of Julie Kedzie, Liz Carmouche, Rin Nakai, Sara McMann, Jessica Eye, and in her most recent win, Marion Reneau.
