In the opening bout of the evening, tough wrestler Jason Brilz faces a stiff challenge in the form of experienced veteran Vladimir “The Janitor” Matyushenko. Brilz is coming off an extremely controversial split decision loss to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in a fight that almost everyone feels he won. Brilz is a tough young fighter with a versatile skill set, but Matyushenko has had a very long and accomplished career and doesn’t have many holes in his game for opponents to exploit. If Brilz wants to avoid dropping two in a row, he is going to need a near-flawless performance and an excellent game plan.

Jason Brilz is a very tough and skilled wrestler with a well-rounded overall game. His wrestling is his best weapon, but he has solid boxing, relatively heavy hands, and an effective submission game from top position to complement it. He is also notoriously difficult to finish, having only been stopped once in a fight more than ten years ago. While he has great wrestling and a very versatile skill set, Brilz’s problem isn’t that he can’t completely overwhelm guys in any one area. Against Matyushenko that could be especially troubling, since Matyushenko is also very good at everything and has a considerable advantage in the experience department.

Vladimir “The Janitor” Matyushenko, a veteran of almost 15 years in the sport, has fought some of the best fighters in the world at both Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight. In many ways, he is stylistically similar to Brilz in that he has solid wrestling, decent boxing, and effective submissions from top position. The big difference between the two is that Matyushenko has consistently fought a higher level of competition and spent a large portion of his career fighting opponents substantially larger than himself. As solid a wrestler as Matyushenko is, Jon Jones showed that a truly dominant wrestler can still physically overpower him, so he is going to have to mix it up well and try to keep Brilz at bay if he wants another win.

I think this is a tough fight for Brilz. In many ways, Matyushenko is a more experienced version of him. Both have solid striking, effective submissions, and good wrestling, but Matyushenko has fought better competition for many years and is a little better at putting all his weapons together. Both of these guys are known for their durability so it seems almost guaranteed that this one will go the distance, but I think Matyushenko has the crisper and more effective striking, and that should make the difference. Their wrestling and grappling skills should largely cancel each other out, and so Matyushenko’s more effective punching will earn him the advantage on the judges’ cards and the decision victory.

Prediction:  Vladimir “The Janitor” Matyushenko via Decision.

Um… Keith Jardine at +400? Nah, I Still Can’t Take that Bet. Strikeforce: Diaz Vs Daley Best Bets!

While Keith Jardine may not be your best value bet since he absolutely highly likely won’t beat Gegard Mousasi, who in some books is a (-600) favorite, we do like the odds for Tatsuya Kawajiri at (+205) against Gilbert Melendez. While Keith Jardine may not be your best value bet since he absolutely highly likely won’t beat Gegard Mousasi, who in some books is a (-600) favorite, we do like the odds for Tatsuya Kawajiri at (+205) against Gilbert Melendez. Record-wise, they’re a pretty even match up but Kawajiri’s got the pride of taking home a win to Japan that may bolster his performance for the victory and Lightweight belt.

Besides Kawajiri, we’re going with the favorites on this card. There’s no way we can bet against Nick Diaz and will gladly take him at (-220). Paul Daley would have to KO Diaz to finish him and we don’t see that happening and decisions usually go in the Champion’s favor but we see Diaz using his Southpaw to end this fight early.

We’ll also take Gegard Mousasi at the best value for him right now which is at (-400). To place your Strikeforce: Diaz Vs. Daley bets, click on the icons to the online sportsbook in our Odds Side Bar to the right of our page!

Gray Maynard is Now the Underdog at +110

Going into his UFC 125 title shot match, Gray Maynard was the clear favorite in all the sportsbooks. But now after their 5 round battle which Frankie Edgar believes he won the last 4 out of 5 rounds and Maynard believes he scored a 10-7 in the 1st round and won rounds 3 and 5, […]

Going into his UFC 125 title shot match, Gray Maynard was the clear favorite in all the sportsbooks. But now after their 5 round battle which Frankie Edgar believes he won the last 4 out of 5 rounds and Maynard believes he scored a 10-7 in the 1st round and won rounds 3 and 5, but the judges decided was a DRAW, it looks as if the tides have turned in the books and Maynard has more to prove. Maynard is the dog by as much as (+110) and that value should go down to about +100 (as it has in some books) so place your bets now if you feel that UFC 130: Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard (the Trilogy) will end with the Lightweight belt wrapped around Maynard’s waist.

Roy Nelson and Frank Mir are Even at -115

UFC 130 betting lines show no favorite in the Roy Nelson vs. Frank Mir bout, pitting both of them as -115. Frank-Mir-Vs.-Roy-Nelson

UFC 130 betting lines show no favorite in the Roy Nelson vs. Frank Mir bout, pitting both of them as -115. We can understand why it’s hard for the sportsbooks to decide who may have the slight advantage over the other here. Frank Mir is a former UFC Heavyweight Champion, coming off a KO (knees) win over Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and has only lost twice in the last four years to Shane Carwin and Brock Lesnar. Roy Nelson is a respected former IFL Heavyweight Champion who beat out Brendan Schaub as the TUF 10 season winner and lost his first UFC fight to Junior dos Santos. Neither fighter here is a joke as we saw amazing heart in Nelson’s 3 round fight with dos Santos and Frank Mir has shown solid improvement in his cardio and striking.

If you feel in your heart that one of these two friends can beat the other, then head here and place your bet for the Heavyweight showdown taking place on May 28th in Las Vegas.
