UFC 126 went down about as we expected.

Let’s say you had a made a “standard” $100 bet on our best values, here’s how you’d have faired:

:: Public money was heavy on Vitor Belfort, but we just didn’t get it. Nothing against Belfort, but one of our top MMA Fix gambling rules is: Don’t bet against Anderson Silva until proven otherwise (same goes for GSP). By fight-time, the best value we could find for Silva was at -220 on Bookmaker here. So a bet of $100 would’ve earned you $45 in profit.

:: We never understood why Forrest Griffin was the dog against Rich Franklin. This always seemed like a classic Forrest-Griffin-is-all-heart-grind-it-out victory. Which it was. Had you taken the +125, you would’ve profited $125. Had you take the +250 on Griffin winning by decision, you’d have pocketed another $250. And had you taken our “what the eff” bet of a draw, you would’ve dropped $100.

:: Finally, Jon “Bones” Jones at +285 seemed like the lock of the evening. Jones earned the victory and his title shot. A $100 bet would’ve netted you around $35. We pumped this one for way more, but let’s just assume the standard $100 bet.

So if you had bet $100 on all of our suggestions, you would’ve won $455 had you not taken our flier, or $355 if you had. Not a bad night. Special recognition to Friend of Fix Larry Pepe, who nailed all of his picks as well.

Looking forward to tonight’s fights. Here’s a quick last look at our UFC 126 best bets. (Re)watch the above vid for more UFC 126 betting odds and analysis.

:: We know a surprising number of people who are really liking Vitor Belfort in the headliner tonight against Anderson Silva. Public money is clearly coming in heavy on Belfort as well, as his line has moved down around 20-25 points on all sites. While we don’t think you should be betting against The Spider until proven otherwise (especially after his impressive win against a performance-enhanced Chael Sonnen), if you think Belfort has a legit shot at the title, take him a +205 on Bookmaker here. If you’re like us and think the public is usually wrong, grab Silva at -220 here.

:: Can’t wait to see Jon “Bones” Jones on a PPV card finally. He’s the biggest favorite of the main card. Best value for him is at -280 on BetED here.

:: We’ve liked Forrest Griffin from the moment his fight against Rich Franklin was announced. Nothing has changed there. If you’re like us and think Griffin shouldn’t be the dog, take the +125 here.

:: Finally–for props–while we like Griffin, we still think it’ll be a close fight. Bodog has some great props listed, included our two favorites, +250 that Griffin wins by decision and, for our flier of the week, +2600 that the bout ends in a draw. Take a look at all UFC 126 fight props here.

UFC Welterweight bout:  Jake Ellenberger vs. Carlos Eduardo Rocha

Odds:  (-300 Ellenberger /+240 Rocha )

Betting Pick:  Ellenberger

Bet on this fight at Sportsbook.com

In the second bout of the card, dominant wrestler Jake Ellenberger will look to make it three in a row against undefeated submission phenom Carlos Eduardo Rocha. Rocha has looked like a monster so far in his young career, but his level of opposition has been terrible and Ellenberger is a gigantic step up for him, so this one should be interesting.

Rocha, an undefeated prospect, is clearly a dangerous ground fighter. He has finished every fight he has had, 8 of 9 by submission and 8 of 9 in the first round. It is important to remember, though, that he did this against largely unknown opposition, and that he has never fought anyone near Ellenberger’s level before. Still, it is clear that on the ground he has serious submission skills.

Ellenberger is a very well-rounded veteran who has looked impressive in all of his UFC appearances so far, even his loss to Carlos Condit. A dominant wrestler with both shoot takedowns and from the clinch, Ellenberger also has very effective boxing with heavy hands and great ground and pound. One of the most interesting thing about Ellenberger’s style is how aggressively he fights. Unlike many wrestlers who are content to grind out a decision from top position, Ellenberger comes to do damage and finish fights, both standing and on the ground.

I think this is Ellenberger’s fight to win. Rocha is just not ready for someone as well-rounded as Ellenberger at this stage of his career. More importantly, Rocha is going to need this fight to play out on the ground in order to have a shot at winning, and I don’t think he has what it takes to get Ellenberger down. If this fight goes to the ground at all, it will be with Ellenberger bombing away from top position. Either way I think Ellenberger will finish this one with strikes, wherever it plays out. Ellenberger by T/KO.

Prediction:  Jake Ellenberger via third round T/KO.

UFC Bantamweight bout:  Miguel Torres vs. Antonio Banuelos

Odds:  (-525 Torres /+325 Banuelos )

Betting Pick:  TORRES

Bet on this fight at Sportsbook.com

In the opening bout of the evening, former WEC champion Miguel Torres will look to recover from a recent string of disappointing performances against well-rounded contender Antonio Banuelos. Both of these guys have very effective striking, but Banuelos is a dangerous wrestler whereas Torres has extremely good jiu-jitsu, so this is an interesting stylistic matchup.

Banuelos, a well-rounded and seasoned veteran, has a very dangerous offensive skill set. He has decent punching, good takedowns, a dominant top game, and very effective dirty boxing in the clinch. If he can get inside Torres’ range and use his clinch to bully Torres around and set up takedowns, he could be in a good position to win this fight. The only thing he is going to have to be careful of is sitting in Torres’ guard, where he is running a dangerous chance of being submitted.

Torres, who once looked like a world-beater as WEC’s champion, has lost some of his luster recently after dropping two of his last three. Still, he has all the offensive tools that made him a champion and is still one of the most dangerous fighters in the division. He isn’t the most powerful striker there is, but he has solid boxing technique and good hand speed. His most dangerous work comes on the ground, though. He is a phenom in the guard, with a ridiculous ability to submit guys off his back.

This should be an extremely competitive fight. Torres probably has better technical striking, but Banuelos has a size and strength advantage and the ability to bully Torres around in the clinch. Banuelos also has much superior wrestling, but that could lead to problems since inside Torres’ guard is not a particularly safe place for anyone to be. I think Banuelos will make this a fight, but ultimately Torres has too many offensive tools. He will make Banuelos pay for trying to clinch, and on the ground I think he has more than enough jiu-jitsu to put Banuelos away if he goes for takedowns. Torres by submission.

Prediction:  Miguel Torres via second round triangle choke.
