Greg Hardy is set for his first fight of 2020. Hardy will take on Yorgan De Castro at UFC on ESPN 8 from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio on March 28. The fight was made official yesterday (Fri. December 28, 2019).

Hardy is coming off the first year of his run with the UFC, going 2-2 with one No Contest. His two victories came via TKO, with his losses coming via disqualification and unanimous decision. In his last outing, Hardy stepped in on short notice to face top-ranked Alexander Volkov. Although he was outclassed throughout the fight, Hardy impressed with his ability to go 15 minutes with one of the best in the world.

As for Castro, he is undefeated in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career with a record of 6-0. Castro was discovered on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, where he earned a UFC contract with a first-round TKO. He followed that up with an impressive Octagon debut against Justin Tafa, who he knocked out in the first round at UFC 243.

It will be interesting to see if Castro can hang with an athlete of Hardy’s caliber. On the flip side, it will be interesting to see how Hardy handles an impressive and streaking prospect such as Castro, who is undefeated. Also announced for the card is a light heavyweight bout between Khalil Rountree and Sam Alvey, as well as a bantamweight bout between Louis Smolka and Davey Grant.

What do you think about the matchup between Hardy and De Castro?

Former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt will get his wish. ESPN is reporting that Garbrandt will return at UFC Columbus on March 28 in Ohio.

Garbrandt will be taking on fellow top-ranked 135-pounder Raphael Assuncao. The UFC has yet to officially announce the matchup. Garbrandt vs. Assuncao headlines a UFC Columbus card that will be headlined by a heavyweight bout between Francis Ngannou and Jairzinho Rozenstruik.

Currently, Garbrandt is on a three-fight losing streak, his most recent defeat coming via knockout in March to Pedro Munhoz at UFC 235. Now, Garbrandt hopes to get back on the winning track against Assuncao. The Brazilian has also fallen on hard times as of late. After having a four-fight win streak snapped, the 37-year-old has suffered back-to-back losses against Cory Sandhagen and Marlon Moraes.

A win over a former champion in Garbrandt would be a huge boost for Assuncao and his hopes of getting back into the title hunt.

It looks like Francis Ngannou finally has a fight. ESPN is reporting that Ngannou will return to the Octagon in March to face Jairzinho Rozenstruik. The show goes down on March 28 from Columbus, Ohio.

“Breaking: Ask and you shall receive. Jairzinho Rozenstruik (@JairRozenstruik) vs. Francis Ngannou (@francis_ngannou) will headline UFC Fight Night on March 28 in Columbus, per sources. The fight Jairzinho wanted, coming off a 4-0 run in 2019. More info coming to @espn.”

This is exactly the matchup Rozenstruik was hoping for, as he called “The Predator” out following his big fifth-round knockout win over Alistair Overeem at UFC DC. Rozenstruik has looked phenomenal during his UFC run, as the undefeated 10-0 heavyweight prospect has won all four of his Octagon appearances via finish. Now, he’ll take on the most feared puncher heavyweight has ever seen in Ngannou.

Ngannou could, arguably, be fighting for a heavyweight championship next. However, with the trilogy bout between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier holding things up, he’ll have to keep busy in the meantime. Ngannou is on a three-fight win streak, having won each of those bouts via first-round finish. He’ll now welcome Rozenstruik to the heavyweight elite, hoping to put a stamp on his claim to a heavyweight title opportunity.
