Earlier tonight (Sat. May 16^th,2020) UFC Florida took place from the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

The empty arena hosted a heavyweight bout between Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris ending in Harris being finished by TKO in the second round. While a strong start by Harris knocking Overeem down and almost closing the show Overeem survived the barrage finishing the first round on top. The second round saw Overeem catch Harris with a head kick before securing back mount and closing the show. In the Co-Main Event, we witnessed a three-round war between Claudia Gadelha and Angela Hill resulting in Gadelha getting the split decision victory. Outside of these fights, the card delivered plenty of excellent performances worthy of bonuses.

The first Performance of the Night bonus went to Cortney Casey for her victory over Mara Romero Borella. The second fight on the preliminary card saw Cortney Casey debut in a new weight class moving up to Flyweight from Strawweight. The move-in weight seemed to be effective for Casey who found her first finish since 2016 by way of armbar in the first round.

The second Performance of the Night bonus came on the final bout on the preliminary card between Miguel Baeza and Matt Brown. What began as a fairly even striking match saw a quick turn in the second round as Baeza found the finish via way of left hook 18 seconds into the round securing himself his $50,000 bonus.

Fight of the Night came in the first bout on the main card between Song Yadong and Marlon Vera. The fight saw a three-round war between the two headed to the judge’s scorecard. What was a war was decided by unanimous victory giving Song the win. The verdict was not only protested by Vera but also by many others online following the verdict. None the less, both fighters will take home their $50,000 bonuses.

Overeem was dropped early on by Harris who unleashed an onslaught on the former title challenger. However, the crafty veteran survived and was able to capitalize on a slip by Harris who was dominated on the ground for the rest of the first round.

Overeem then caught Harris with a head kick followed by punches that dropped him en route to a second-round TKO victory.

Round 1: Walt Harris is pushing forward and tries to throw a big punch. Alistair Overeem ducks out the way well. The Dutch fighter throws a lovely spinning back kick to the body. Harris lands a huge combination to drop Overeem. He’s on top reigning down massive strikes. Harris is unleashing punches for almost a minute but Overeem is staying in the fight and the referee is letting the fight continue. He eventually creates a scramble and works his way back to the feet – WOW that was so close to being over. Overeem manages to get the takedown and lands on the back of Harris. There is so much time for Overeem to work. He’s landing constant shots over and over again. Overeem is hammering down shots as the clock ticks down, Harris has just got to survive now. Ten seconds left Harris tries to stand up but eats two big knees to the body for his troubles as the horn sounds.

Round 2: One minute into round two and both fighters look to be taking their time after an explosive first round. Overeem lands a huge head kick followed by a right hand to drop Harris. The former heavyweight title challenger takes the back and begins hammering in strikes in an identical spot to what we saw in round one. Harris is flattened out completely now taking consistent heavy shots and referee Dan Miragliotta has to step in and wave off the fight.

Barboza dropped Ige early in the first round and ended the second round strongly with some solid ground and pound.

However, Ige did have more success overall in the second round and after a strong third stanza, did enough to convince two judges that he did enough to win as he eeked out the split decision victory.

Barboza lands two leg kicks and connects with a right. Ige responds with a flying knee that connects. Ige has Barboza clinched up against the fence. Ige appears to be bleeding now. The round comes to an end and it’s a clearly a Barboza one.

Round 2: Ige comes out swinging again and lands a number of shots but Barboza eats them. Barboza partially lands a body kick. Ige responds with a leg kick. Barboza now appears to be bleeding. He lands a leg kick. Ige has Barboza clinched up against the fence now. Barboza lands some knees while Ige connects with a body shot. Barboza lands a left hook that keeps Ige wary. Ige lands some strikes that seem to partially wobble Barboza. Ige lands a leg kick. Ige shoots but Barboza sprawls and defends. Barboza gets up but sees his spinning back kick dodged. Barboza lands a body kick that seems to have hurt Ige. Ige shoots for a takedown but finds himself receiving hammerfists from Barboza.

Round 3: Barboza lands a body kick and follows it up with a 1-2. Ige lands a leg kick. Both fighters appear a bit slower now. Barboza lands a leg kick during an exchange. Ige lands a right hand to the body. Barboza has Ige clinched up against the fence and lands a big left to the body. Ige responds with a straight right that connects. Barboza checks a leg kick but receives a hook from Ige. Barboza lands a big leg kick. Ige eats it. Ige clinches Barboza up against the fence and manages to land a big takedown. Ige looks to pass but remains in Barboza’s full guard until the end of the fight.

Official result: Dan Ige defeats Edson Barboza via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

Round 1: Jotko starts off with a front kick to the body. He sees his head kick blocked soon after. Anders rushes forward but doesn’t land anything significant while Jotko lands a counter right. Jotko attempts a spinning elbow but Anders counters by clinching him up against the fence. Jotko escapes. Jotko lands a big uppercut. Anders goes for the takedown but Jotko gets up soon after. Jotko lands some leg kicks and then goes for a takedown. He has Anders’ back and takes him down only to end up at the bottom. He scrambles and they’re on their feet. They start to brawl before Jotko has Anders clinched up against the fence as the round ends.

Round 2: The pair return to striking to start off the second round. Anders is rushing forward and landing strikes but Jotko remains composed. Jotko lands a big left. Anders attempts a takedown but Jotko does well to fight it and eventually escape. Anders attempts another takedown to no avail. He tries again but fails as they remain clinched up until the round ends.

Round 3: Anders attempts another takedown but fails again as Jotko continues to show incredible takedown defense. Jotko is doing well with striking and moving as Anders struggles to land a meaningful shot. Jotko lands a leg kick before connecting with a left. Anders has him clinched up against the fence. Jotko escapes but Anders tries again as he looks for another takedown. Jotko reverses before Anders does the same. Jotko ends the fight with a failed spinning back kick.

Official result: Krzysztof Jotko defeats Eryk Anders via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28).
