The UFC has officially announced its return to London for March of 2020. There has been a lot of chatter about this particular event, especially since two top-ranked middleweights have verbally agreed to headline the show.

It was announced on social media that the Las Vegas-based mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion will return to the O2 Arena on March 21. No fights have been announced for the card as of this writing, but it should be expected that it will play host to numerous local competitors.

As aforementioned, two fo the UFC’s top middleweights have already verbally agreed to headline the once-rumored card. Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker suggested he and Darren Till headline the event. It didn’t take long for the Englishman to accept Whittaker’s challenge.

Another frontrunner to either headline or co-headline the card could be Englishman Leon Edwards. Edwards is gunning for a fight with ex-champion Tyron Woodley. UFC Senior Vice President David Shaw had this to say about the promotion’s return to London.

“The UK and Ireland is established as one of our flagship markets in Europe. We’re delighted to be returning to London, our fans are fantastic and have always shown up in their thousands to support their local heroes.”

Who would you like to see compete on the UFC London card?

It looks like both Robert Whittaker and Darren Till are down to fight each other next year at UFC London. The Las Vegas-based mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion is rumored to be returning to London in February of 2020.

Speaking in an interview earlier this month, Whittaker noted he’d like to fight “The Gorilla” on the card.

“That’s the fight I’m currently interested in,” Whittaker said. “Plus I’ve never been to Europe before, so what better reason to go?”

Now, taking to Twitter, Till has accepted the former 185-pound champion’s challenge.

Let’s fight at @ufc London then @robwhittakermma? #YouAreNotReady

The fight certainly makes sense for both men. Whittaker comes off of a second-round knockout loss to Israel Adesanya, in which he lost the UFC middleweight championship. Till, a former title challenger at 170 pounds, recently made the jump up to middleweight.

He was successful in his divisional debut when he co-main evented UFC 244 from Madison Square Garden earlier this month. The Englishman picked up a split decision win over Kelvin Gastelum after 15 minutes inside the Octagon. Till and Whittaker are two of the best strikers under the UFC’s banner. A potential clash between the pair would make for a highly entertaining bout.

What do you think about a potential fight between Till and Whittaker in London?

“The Reaper” was watching closely as Till faced Kelvin Gastelum in the co-main event of UFC 244 last week. Till edged out a split decision win over Gastelum – a former interim middleweight title challenger – after 15 minutes of fighting.

Now, speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Whittaker was asked about the rumors that the UFC is heading back to London in March of 2020, and if he’d like to headline that card against Till.

“That’s the fight I’m currently interested in,” Whittaker said. “Plus I’ve never been to Europe before, so what better reason to go?”

Speaking on his podcast, “Grange TV,” following Till’s win over Gastelum, Whittaker had nothing but praise for the Englishman’s debut performance at middleweight. He immediately recognized it was possible he’d be fighting “The Gorilla” next.

“Till was landing a lot of clean shots,” Whittaker said. “I think that he was nullifying a lot of Gastelum’s striking, because he was stepping out on the jab, dropping his level on the two, and then turning it into the clinch.

“I think it was beautiful. I think Till came in with a great gameplan, I think he executed it perfectly, cause Gastelum is a super underrated, super, super dangerous fighter.”

What do you think about a potential fight between Whittaker and Till next?

Masvidal defeated Darren Till in devastating fashion at UFC London last month (Sat. March 16, 2019). A hellacious hook in the second round shut the Englishman’s lights out in brutal fashion. Now, he will square off with former ONE and Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren. The winner will likely have a claim at an upcoming 170-pound title shot.

That fight goes down at UFC 239 on July 6. However, in the co-main event of UFC London, Edwards continued his climb within the division. A split decision win over Gunnar Nelson advanced him up the welterweight ranks. Backstage, Edwards began to jaw off at Masvidal about a future fight.

Edwards, flanked by his brother and fellow mixed martial artist Fabian, made Masvidal feel threatened, prompting him to hit Edwards with the “three-piece with a soda.” Perhaps Edwards and Masvidal will get to settle their differences at some point down the line.

For now, the former Miami street fighter approaches a much more high-profile fight with “Funky” at International Fight Week.
