Jon Jones has hit back at former light heavyweight championship challenger, Dominick Reyes after the Californian claimed that despite his much-scrutinized legacy, he will have to know he should have lost to him back in 2020 in the pair’s title showdown.

Jones, a former two-time light heavyweight champion and a current heavyweight gold holder, took on Hesperia native, Reyes four years ago at UFC 247, successfully defending his light heavyweight crown in a controversial unanimous decision win over the then-undefeated contender in Texas.

And himself snapping a winless run of four straight fights since his defeat to Jones over the course of last weekend, Reyes was heralded for his first round win over Dustin Jacoby, stopping the contender with an impressive opening round knockout win.

Offering his thoughts on Jones’ legacy and much-discussed potential title unification fight with Tom Aspinall, Reyes claimed that the former will have to live with the fact he should have lost to him back in 2020

“He (Jon Jones) doesn’t see Tom (Aspinall) or Curtis (Blaydes) as a long-standing champion,” Dominick Reyes said whilst discussing Jon Jones’ legacy. “And he sees them as ‘right now’. And he’s not worried about right now, he’s worried about forever.”

“But forever, he will also know that he lost to me, but maybe we could figure that out one day,” Dominick Reyes explained. “Oh yeah, it’s not a belief [that I beat him], it’s a fact – there’s a difference.”

Snapping a four-year run without a victory over the course of last weekend in his UFC Louisville knockout win, former light heavyweight championship challenger, Dominick Reyes has poked fun at the ongoing conversation regarding the legacy of Jon Jones – claiming he should have beaten the heavyweight king back in 2020.

Reyes, the current number fifteen ranked light heavyweight challenger, returned over the course of last weekend in Kentucky in the co-main event of UFC Louisville, landing a blistering first round knockout win over Dustin Jacoby in the pair’s clash.

The win came as Hesperia native, Reyes’ first since 2019 knockout win over former middleweight kingpin Chris Weidman in the main event of UFC Fight Night Boston.

In the time since, Reyes had suffered a slew of four consecutive losses – three of which in vicious knockout defeats to Jan Blachowicz, Jiri Prochazka, and Ryan Spann.

Challenging former pound-for-pound number one, Jones for light heavyweight spoils at UFC 247, Reyes pushed the Rochester native to his absolute limit over the course of five rounds – suffering a close, hugely-debated unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 49-46) defeat to the current heavyweight gold holder.

And amid the ongoing discussion regarding the status of Jones’ legacy should he avoid a title unification clash with current interim gold holder, Tom Aspinall, Reyes joked that the former should always remember that he should have lost his title against him four years ago.

Nassourdine Imavov lands controversial TKO win over Jared Cannonier after brutal referee stoppage UFC Louisville

Former middleweight title challenger, Jared Cannonier will likely leave Kentucky feeling outdone by by heralded referee, Jason Herzog following his UFC Louisville headliner with Nassourdine Imavov — dropping a fourth round TKO defeat to the streaking Dagestani in rather controversial fashion

Cannonier, the current number four ranked middleweight contender, had been sidelined turning in a decision win over fellow former title challenger, Marvin Vettori in the summer of last year — which came as his second straight win after a close judging win of his own against former champion, Sean Strickland.

As for former MMA Factory staple, Imavov, the Russian-born French force can count it two wins in two tonight after UFC Louisville, following a prior majority decision win over Roman Dolidze back in February.

Sharing a largely striking exclusive affair with Cannonier tonight in Kentucky, Imavov will likely count himself lucky to land a fourth round stoppage victory via strikes, despite rocking the former with a winging right hook.

Catching an engaging Cannonier on his left blind side, Imavov attempted to seize the chance and finish the fight, and despite failing to fell the former title challenger, Imavov conituned to pour on the pressure — and despite the fact it appeared Cannonier was recovering on the feet, Herzog stepped in to stop the contest.

Following his second straight main event win on the trot, Imavov called for a September comeback at UFC Paris, welcoming a fight with the above-mentioned Strickland — whom he was defeated by back in January in a short-notice light heavyweight main event.

Dominick Reyes stormed back into the win column at UFC Louisville, scoring his first victory in more than four years.

Stepping inside the Octagon against Dustin Jacoby, things were relatively reserved between the two fighters. 90 seconds into the bout, Jacoby picked up the pace and began walking down Reyes. Pressed against the cage, ‘The Devastator’ uncorked a looping left hand that caught Jacoby.

Jacoby quickly backed up and Reyes began his pursuit, unleashing a flurry of strikes punctuated by a knee up the middle that caught Jacoby. With ‘The Hanyak’ out on his feet, the referee had no choice, but to step in and call for the stoppage at two minutes on the dot.

Official Result: Dominick Reyes def. Dustin Jacoby via TKO (strikes) at 2:00 of Round 1.
