Carla Esparza’s win over Alexa Grasso was not well-received and one fan made sure to let her know.

Esparza defeated Grasso via majority decision in the co-main event of UFC Mexico City on Saturday night. Many felt Grasso had done enough to win the fight, but as the scorecards were read out, the crowd let their disapproval be heard.

And according to Esparza, one fan did it in more ways than one by pouring beer on her as she was walking out of the Octagon.

“I hate that type of behavior,” she said after the fight (via BJ Penn). “This is a sport. We all go out there and we give it our all. We work so hard to lead up to these fights. I wish those people — obviously that’s not everyone here — would have more respect.”

However, the former strawweight champion is not letting that affect her overall experience in Mexico:

“It put a damper on (the experience), but I’ve been so welcomed here in Mexico,” she added. “Even a family opened their home to me, their gym to me. There’s been so many amazing fans out here, so it doesn’t put a bad taste in my mouth for all of Mexico.

I have Mexican blood in it. There’s so many amazing people here, it’s just unfortunate there’s some bad apples in the crowd.”

Of course, the entire crowd went crazy when the main event was called off due to a no contest. Given this news as well, it doesn’t speak well for the fans in attendance.

What do you think of the UFC Mexico City crowd?

There has been a lot of criticism regarding the ending of last night’s (Sat. September 21, 2019) UFC Mexico City main event.

The featherweight bout between Jeremy Stephens and Yair Rodriguez only lasted 15 seconds after the Mexican nailed “Lil Heathen” with an eye poke. Stephens was unable to re-open his eye after several minutes, leading to the referee calling the fight off. It appears UFC middleweight Paulo Costa took issue with Stephens being unable to continue.

He took to Twitter to blast Stephens, calling him “shameful,” and saying he does not deserve to be in the UFC.

Costa isn’t the only one who questions Stephens’ toughness after that fight. Stephens’ very opponent, Rodriguez, even suggested, perhaps, Stephens was milking the poke. That, of course, sparked a heated response from Stephens. It will be interesting to see if the UFC runs the fight back at an upcoming card, and if Stephens will respond to Costa’s comments.

What do you make of Costa’s comments towards Stephens after UFC Mexico City?

Things did not end well for either Yair Rodriguez or Jeremy Stephens in last night’s (Sat. September 21, 2019) UFC Mexico City headliner.

Rodriguez hit Stephens with an eye poke that immediately stopped the action. Stephens was unable to re-open his eye the rest of the way through. As a result, the action was stopped, and the fight was declared a No Contest. Rodriguez was extremely upset by the development, as he was making his long-awaited return in front of his native Mexican crowd, which only lasted 15 seconds.

UFC Hall Of Famer and commentator Michael Bisping tried to console Rodriguez inside the Octagon, but, without realizing who it was who was grabbing his arm, Rodriguez briefly snapped at Bisping. Check it out here:

Prior to speaking with Bisping for his post-fight interview, Rodriguez apologized to the Hall Of Famer and all was well. Now, it appears Rodriguez believes Stephens might have been milking the eye injury, sparking a heated reaction from “Lil Heathen.” Now, it will be interesting to see if the UFC decides to run things back between Rodriguez and Stephens at an upcoming card.

Fans were displeased after the main event between Yair Rodriguez vs. Jeremy Stephens was ruled a no-contest. Rodriguez poked Stephens in the eye just 15 seconds into the fight, and that was it.

During the melee, Brendan Fitzgerald went underneath the broadcast table which Michael Bisping caught on camera.

Of course, what had happened many fans on social media were not happy. Mexican fans threw beer, popcorn, and other objects at the fighters and the Octagon. Meanwhile, Carla Esparza said she got beer poured on her following her win over Mexican fighter, Alexa Grasso.

Regardless, Brendan Fitzgerald did have some fun with it after on social media.

“Didn’t consider. Did. Smells like beer in here. Man that sucks. Best to @LiLHeathenMMA. Ughhhhhhh,” he wrote.

“The only one who didn’t duck for cover? Guess who. @bisping was like…,” Brendan Fitzgerald tweeted.

Then, to top it off, after the hectic events, the UFC commentator went for a post-fight margarita. And, hid under the bartop to poke some more fun at himself,

“Now the work is done. Time for a post fight margarita here at the hotel,” he said.

It was no doubt a bad situation that the fans created. Fighters and security were getting hit by objects, and Brendan Fitzgerald decided he might as well take cover.
