Artem Lobov is a man of his word.

Initially, Lobov was scheduled to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov’s teammate Zubaira Tukhugov at UFC Moncton. However, Tukhugov was removed from the fight after his involvement in the post-UFC 229 melee.

Instead, Michael Johnson accepted the fight on three weeks’ notice. As a token of respect for Johnson accepting the fight on short notice, Lobov said that if Johnson missed weight for the featherweight contest, he’d pay back the fine Johnson would receive.

As it turns out, Johnson did end up missing weight for his fight with “The Russian Hammer.” He was fined 20 percent of his fight purse, which, by rule, Lobov couldn’t decline. Despite this, “The Menace” ended up winning the contest via unanimous decision.

Johnson was vocal about his doubts regarding whether or not Lobov would be a man of his word. It turns out, Lobov actually did pay Johnson back. Today (Thurs. November 8, 2018) Johnson took to Twitter to reveal that Lobov did, in fact, follow through on his word. Johnson said that Lobov had also earned his respect:

“In my book respect is always earned, never given. Hats off to for not only a tough fight our last outing, but also being a man of your word. Respect was earned, hands down.”

Lobov offered a friendly response:

Former light heavyweight title challenger Volkan Oezdemir is going to be sidelined for a while.

Oezdimer is coming off a submission loss to Anthony Smith at October 27’s UFC Fight Night 138rom Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Not too long after the defeat, Oezdimer decided to have a procedure done on his knee that would help clear up existing damage.

He shared a pre-surgery update via Instagram, and the 29-year-old was surprisingly in good spirits.

Although he had a fantastic 2017, 2018 has been a bit of a setback for Oezdemir.

He started off the year by falling to champion Daniel Cormier at UFC 220. The current top pound-for-pound fighter in the world smothered and dominated him en route to a TKO finish.

Then he had to cancel fights with Alexander Gustafsson and Shogun Rua due to injuries. The surgery will seemingly end a bad year for the Swiss slugger.

UFC Moncton was a tough sell as it was, and overall it was disastrous for the UFC’s primetime ratings.

UFC Moncton was a solid night of fights, headlined of course by Anthony Smith’s third-round submission of Volkan Oezdimer. But according to MMA Fighting’s Dave Meltzer, the FOX Sports 1 broadcast only averaged 531,000 viewers. Going head to head against the World Series proved to be an expected downturn.

The 531,000 rating number is 28 percent below Saturday night prime time average for FS1 shows this year, which is 736,000 viewers. In contrast, game four of the World Series drew 13,563,000 viewers. However, it did end before the Smith vs. Oezdemir fight, which averaged 805,000 viewers. That was the peak of UFC Moncton show.

Both the World Series and the UFC had plenty of other competition as it came to viewership. ABC, CBS, ESPN, and ESPN 2 all had college football games on. Oklahoma State vs. Texas drawing the most eyes with 3,486,000 viewers.

The FOX Sports 2 prelims headlined by Sean Strickland’s win over Nordine Taleb, did 237,000 viewers. That was the lowest number for a Saturday night prelims on FOX Sports 2 this year. The previous low of 243,000 was set at the Sept. 22 show.
