Nasrat Haqparast and the rest of the winners at UFC Newark are giving promotion officials a tough time deciding who will win bonuses tonight.

Haqparast continued a lengthy trend of finishes on tonight’s card, knocking out Joaquim Silva in the second round of their lightweight clash. Haqparast came out and uncorked a huge punch on Silva early in the round, sending him crashing to the canvas before finishing him off on the ground.

Up next on the UFC Newark main card is a lightweight bout between Nasrat Haqparast and Joaquim Silva.

Round 1:

Silva throwing more so thus far but nothing much is landing. Haqparast is closing the distance but hasn’t thrown. A big spinning kick from Silva misses and he falls to the canvas but shoots back up. Haqparast lands some nice hooks. Another big hook connects for Haqparast.

Silva connects on a nice leg kick but Haqparast fires back with a left hand. Body kick connects for Haqparast. Haqparast connects with a beautiful combination of hard shots. A head kick for Haqparast is just blocked to end the round.

Round 2:

A huge hook from Haqparast drops Silva down hard. Haqparast swarms on him for the ground-and-pound and that’s all she wrote. Incredible finish.

Gerald Meerschaert just pulled off a great submission victory over Trevin Giles at UFC Newark.

The pair met in a lightweight matchup on the main card, which was a grappling match, for the most part, that was dragged into the third round. However, Meerschaert was able to establish dominant position on the canvas, and lock in a deep guillotine choke. Referee Herb Dean was unable to see the tap from Giles.

As a result, he was choked unconscious, and the fight was then called off. Check out the spectacular finish here:

Up next on the UFC Newark main card is a middleweight clash between Trevin Giles and Gerald Meerschaert.

Round 1:

Giles connects on Meerschaert with a big right hand. Meerschaert lands a knee to the body but gets taken down by Giles. Giles goes right into side control but is now in half guard. Meerschaert sweeps and gets into full guard. Meerschaert is being very patient on top, throwing shots here and there. A very good bump from Giles who sweeps into top position in Meerschaert’s full guard. Side control for Giles now. The round comes to an end.

Round 2:

Meerschaert clinches up early and goes for a takedown, but Giles stuffs it. Top position for Giles in half guard. Giles transitions into side control, but Meerschaert rolls onto his belly, but back to his back. Now Giles gets full mount, but Meerschaert rolls over, and scrambles into top position in Giles’ full guard. Meerschaert again being very selective with his ground-and-pound. The round comes to an end.

Round 3:

Meerschaert lands a nice head kick and goes in for a takedown that’s stuffed. Meerschaert gets up and gets a trip takedown on Giles into half guard. Meerschaert is able to sink in a choke and Giles goes out like a light. That’s it.
