Bellator bantamweight James Gallagher believes teammate and compatriot Conor McGregor should not compete in mixed martial arts again until he is paid what he deserves.

McGregor recently claimed that he had retired from the sport. His announcement, though met with a lot of skepticism, came after a proposed bout with Donald Cerrone didn’t come to fruition. Many speculated that the new ESPN deal was the reason why McGregor did not take the fight as his purse would be affected. UFC president Dana White would later deny this, though.

The Irishman has also spoken of his desire to have a piece of the UFC, which White has also vehemently denied will ever happen. Regardless, many expect McGregor to fight again, but Gallagher hopes he only fights if he’s given the money and respect that he deserves:

“I hope he does [fight again] because I feel like he shouldn’t come back unless he gets what he deserves,” Gallagher told ESPN. “This is a game where you stand up for what you believe in. You have that loyalty and being Irish, it’s bred into us, you stand up for what you believe in, you take nothing less than what you deserve. He deserves a share in the company where he’s at and he doesn’t deserve anything less.

I hope that maybe he can venture off. He’s got more money than anyone on the f*cking planet. So he can go and do a lot of fun things to pass his time. He’s got a family now. He’s a very smart man, bringing the Proper 12 whiskey, making loads of money through that and he can venture off and maybe do other things that’s fun for him.”

McGregor Is Still A Fighter

Whenever anyone mentions how McGregor has a lot of money, they always speak of how he still remains a fighter and loves the sport. Gallagher did the same as he believes McGregor will eventually want to compete.

But again, it should hinge on him getting what he deserves:

“Deep down at heart, he is a fighter and he’ll want to fight again,” Gallagher added. “But he should not unless he gets what he deserves. Right now, they don’t have the loyalty or the respect to give him what he deserves. He brought the company’s revenue up to what it is single-handedly and he deserves it. So I hope that he gets what he deserves and comes back and fight. But if he doesn’t get what he deserves, best of luck with retirement.”

UFC women’s strawweight and flyweight competitor Paige VanZant plans on fighting out her current UFC deal.

VanZant is currently healing a nasty arm injury. However, when she returns to the Octagon, it will be the final fight on her UFC contract. Speaking on “The Ariel Helwani MMA Show” earlier this week (Mon. June 17, 2019), VanZant admitted she plans on fighting out her current deal and testing free agency after 2019:

“It is, yeah,” VanZant confirmed. “So, I have one fight left on my UFC contract. I am [planning on fighting it out]. For me, it’s more – I wanna prove my worth. And, obviously, with my arm injuries, I’ve had three surgeries in a row now.

“Even though I am so popular, I guess, I’ve been doing amazing things outside of the UFC – Sports Illustrated, Dancing With The Stars, all these amazing things – I want to show I’m a huge player in this division or a huge player in the UFC. I think it’s gonna take one more fight to prove that.

“And, more than anything, I’m just focused on getting back in the cage. I don’t want to put any pressure on myself or any stress behind anything, I just want to fight.”

The 25-year-old recently snapped a two-fight losing streak against the likes of Michelle Waterson and Jessica-Rose Clark. VanZant defeated Rachael Ostovich via second-round submission in January. She was expected to make her return at UFC 236 in April, but, unfortunately, “PVZ’s” arm injury forced her to withdraw. Now, VanZant is aiming for a late 2019 return to action.

Dana White thinks Brock Lesnar made the right call retiring from mixed martial arts (MMA).

“The Beast” has opted to hang up his gloves for good and remain with WWE. The promotion was hoping to book a superfight between the WWE star and heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier. Instead, Cormier has moved on and will defend his title against Stipe Miocic in August.

Speaking on an Instagram Live chat earlier today (Tues. June 18, 2019), White admitted he thinks Lesnar made the “right decision” retiring from MMA (via MMA Fighting):

“I wasn’t pissed at all,” White said. “Brock had a good run here. It’s been fun. Listen to fight in this business you have to be 100 percent invested. You’ve got to be in. It’s not where his head was. He made the right decision.”

Lesnar initially signed with the UFC back in 2008. At on point, he found himself on a four-fight win streak, which included a heavyweight title victory. Lensar beat notable names such as Randy Couture, Frank Mir, Mark Hunt, and Shane Carwin. He also fought the likes of Cain Velasquez and Alistair Overeem.

Now, it looks like the 41-year-old’s fighting days are over, and he’ll continue to be one of the biggest stars in the professional wrestling world.
