Max Holloway will be competing for a second UFC title this weekend. Albeit an interim belt, it’s a title in a different weight class nonetheless.

The current 145-pound king jumps up to 155 pounds to face Dustin Poirier for the interim lightweight throne. While Khabib Nurmagomedov is waiting out a suspension until this summer, either Holloway or Poirier will solidify themselves as “The Eagle’s” next opponent for a unification bout. Holloway vs. Poirier II main events UFC 236 on pay-per-view (PPV) this weekend (Sat. April 13, 2019.

Holloway and Poirier is certainly a fun match-up, however, featherweight Renato Moicano doesn’t believe the 145-pound champ will get the job done against “The Diamond.” Speaking to MMA Junkie, Moicano foresees a loss for the Hawaiian title holder, before coming back down to featherweight for a title defense:

“It’s maybe an opportunity for another guy to take that belt because Max is going to fight with Dustin,” Moicano said. “I don’t think he will win, but let’s see. The fight is always tough, but I’m confident with the win of Dustin. I think Dustin will win and Max will come to featherweight to defend his title.”

If things play out the way Moicano believes they will, he likely won’t be next in line for the title shot. The Brazilian comes off a TKO loss to featherweight legend Jose Aldo in February. He’ll have to string together a few more victories before getting back in the title conversation:

“I know I will return better,” Moicano said. “I take that loss, I return from that loss and I know I come back better.”

Lyoto Machida believes that the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) lost credibility after the Jon Jones situation.

Jones was hit with a 15-month suspension after having a second run-in with the doping agency in 2017. Machida has a history with USADA as well, receiving an 18-month ban after admitting to using banned substance 7-keto-DHEA. In an interview with MMA Fighting, Machida believes USADA lost a bit of its credibility with the way they’ve handled Jones’ situation:

”When I saw different results, different substances and different penalties, man… To me, as a person, it lost credibility,” Machida said. “For me, not being part of USADA… You can’t understand the joy I have. Not having that daily stress… You could be doing everything by the book, but there was always this stress.

”What I’ve been hearing is that it takes a bit of their credibility away. Double standards. We can see that like every other (entity) it has flaws, too, flaws that we can’t say are intentional, if they are intended to protect (someone), or if it’s just flaws in the system, in the process, but it does have flaws.”

Since serving his suspension, Jones has reclaimed the light heavyweight throne and is gearing up for his second title defense. As for Machida, he now resides in Bellator, and will face Chael Sonnen from Madison Square Garden on July 14.

Conor McGregor is back in the headlines for his latest outside-the-cage incident today.

However, he’s cleared one aspect of a previous arrest. McGregor was arrested on felony charges of strong-arm robbery and criminal mischief in Miami Beach, Florida, last month.

The charges were for allegedly smashing a man’s phone outside of the Fontainebleau Hotel. After he was arrested, 22-year-old Ahmed Abdirzak sued McGregor for battery, assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Here’s video of the incident via TMZ Sports:

New court records show that McGregor’s accuser has filed to have the lawsuit dismissed. That points to a settlement most likely being reached out of court.

He is still facing criminal charges for the alleged assault. They were recently reduced last week. McGregor is scheduled to appear in court on felony robbery and misdemeanor criminal mischief charges. He is not required to attend the hearing if he has legal representation enter a not guilty plea for him.

Overall, the incident isn’t affecting him much. He’s been feuding with rival Khabib Nurmagomedov online and commenting on last night’s WrestleMania while traveling the world.

Conor McGregor allegedly slugged a fan while at a bar in Dublin, Ireland. This is the latest incident that keeps his name in the headlines.

The former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion made news yet again when the Irish tabloids recently brought word that police are investigating an alleged assault involving him.

The alleged incident took place at the Marble Arch Pub last weekend that has McGregor being accused of slugging a loudmouth fan.

According to Irish Mirror, McGregor was at the bar with friends drinking it up after an amateur mixed martial arts (MMA) event took place. It was noted in the article that McGregor was “acting the mick” and getting on people’s nerves.

This led to one fan starting to tease him about losing to UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at the UFC 229 pay-per-view event where he lost by submission.

That’s when the fists allegedly started flying. As of this writing, McGregor’s team has yet to issue a statement.

The former UFC champion has been in the news for various reasons including an incident that led to him smashing a phone that belonged to a man in Miami last month outside of a nightclub.

Max Holloway opens up on what his future holds as the UFC featherweight champion considering that he’s making the move to a new weight class.

The UFC champ is slated to take on Dustin Poirier for interim lightweight championship in the headliner of the UFC 236 pay-per-view event. Fight fans have been wondering what the outcome of this fight will mean for the featherweight division should Holloway win.

Holloway still has some notable opponents to fight in the 145-pound division, but with him having the chance to become a two-division champ, it makes things unclear. While doing a recent interview, Holloway made it known that he doesn’t want to give up the featherweight belt.

“First things first, we’ve got Dustin, and then I keep hearing the one after this is maybe Khabib in September,” Holloway told MMAWeekly. “I’m really going to have to sit down and talk to the UFC about that. I want to figure it out. A king defends his throne. We’ll sit down with the UFC after this fight, we’ll see how it goes first. All my attention is on Dustin for sure.

“Everybody is talking about me being the fourth person that might be able to be the simultaneous [two-division champion], but I want to be the champ that holds both and defends both. That’s always the end game.”

The UFC 236 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
