Ex-UFC champion Kamaru Usman reacts to viral footage from recently released documentary

Kamaru Usman is clearing the air.

Last week, Roku aired Fight Inc: Inside The UFC, a documentary giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of the global MMA juggernaut. In one of the segments, CEO Dana White is in the ‘War Room’ going over potential matchups for rising welterweight contender Shavkat Rakhmonov. One man listed as a potential opponent was the former 170-pound champion.

As it turned out, Usman’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, was in the facilities kitchen with another client of his, former lightweight titleholder Khabib Nurmagomedov. White approached the pair and proposed the potential fight to Abdelaziz. After hearing White out, the Dominance MMA founder revealed that the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’ was holding out for a fight with perennial contender Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson.

That prompted Nurmagomedov to chime in, suggesting that a fight with Rakhmonov would do much more for Usman than a scrap with Thompson.

“You know, one of the things that makes you the greatest fighter, when you’re 36/37 (years old) and you have 15 (fight win streak), you defend the title many times (back in the day) and you give the opportunity to shine for younger guys, this is what makes you great, this is what I think,” Nurmagomedov said.

“You’re absolutely right,” White replied, “This is what I try to tell your manager every time we make a fight.”

Kamaru Usman reacts to Inside the UFC documentary

Reacting to the clip, Usman pointed out that the documentary was filmed a year ago. More importantly, the footage in question took place before he had accepted a short-notice opportunity against undefeated Chechen monster Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294.

“First and foremost, I’m not even in the game right now, so that’s the least of (my worries), I’m not even worried about any of that,” Usman explained on the Pound 4 Pound podcast. “After that, guess what? I stepped in there on nine days’ notice and fought possibly the most dangerous guy in the UFC at that time, Khamzat Chimaev.”

Usman is currently riding a three-fight losing streak, having lost back-to-back welterweight title fights against current champion Leon Edwards before coming up short against ‘Borz’ in Abu Dhabi.

“When I do get back into the Octagon, I don’t give a flying frick who it is, if it’s cousin John, if it’s this guy, if it’s that guy, if it’s Shavkat, if it’s (Jack Della Maddalena), if it’s Leon Edwards or if it’s Belal (Muhammad), I don’t care who it is,” Usman added. “When I am ready to step back into the Octagon and I want to fight somebody, I don’t give a sh*t, I’ll fight who I need to fight.”

Report - Khamzat Chimaev out of UFC Saudi Arabia main event vs. Robert Whittaker on June 22

Khamzat Chimaev is out of his UFC Saudi Arabia headliner with Robert Whittaker.

According to a report from Australian MMA insider Benny P on X, the undefeated Chechen monster has withdrawn from his main event slot on June 22. Chimaev was scheduled to square off with ‘The Reaper’ in what would have likely been a middleweight title eliminator.

The report goes on to claim that the current front-runner to step into Chimaev’s spot is No. 4 ranked contender Nassourdine Imavov.

“Per sources Khamzat Chimaev is out of his fight Next week against Robert Whittaker the front runner to replace Chimaev is Nassourdine Imavov,” Benny P wrote.

Thus far, there is no word on what caused Chimaev to back out of the bout, but Whittaker made it clear on social media that he’s more than willing to accept anyone willing to step up, writing “Anyone Anywhere Anytime” on Instagram.

With the UFC already dealing with Conor McGregor drama, they really didn’t need another Khamzat Chimaev withdrawal

It’s an unfortunate turn of events for the UFC, especially considering the promotion is already dealing with a truckload of drama surrounding Conor McGregor’s long-awaited return which was originally scheduled to go down one week after the UFC’s debut in Saudi Arabia.

McGregor/Chandler

MMA Hour host Ariel Helwani recently shared another grim update about McGregor’s clash with Chandler at UFC 303, noting that the cancelation is a “formality” at this point and that Dana White and Co. are scrambling fast to find a replacement opponent for Chandler or a new fight altogether.

June has not been a very kind month to the UFC or MMA fans in general. Here’s to hoping the promotion can pull at least one rabbit out of their hat and save the second half of the month.

Ariel Helwani offers another grim update on Conor McGregor's UFC 303 return: 'They need a replacement'

It’s looking more and more like Conor McGregor will not be returning to the Octagon this month.

After more than a year of rumors and reports, we appeared to finally be closing in on the Irishman’s “greatest comeback in combat sports history.” Then suddenly, it all seemingly fell apart. At this point, neither the UFC nor McGregor have offered any insight into the situation, leaving much of the reporting to Ariel Helwani.

Last week, Helwani said that there was “great positivity” that the fight would go down as scheduled on June 29. In the week since there’s been a complete 180° turn with the cancelation becoming more and more likely.

Ariel Helwani on Conor McGregor

“UFC is not intentionally trying to drag out this 303 saga,” Helwani wrote on X. “They are burning the midnight oil trying to find a replacement solution. The issue is there aren’t a ton of options available right now. If there was they would have announced it all already and moved on.”

When one fan asked the MMA Hour host for clarification on the status of the fight, Helwani added that while the bout is not “100% off,” all signs currently point to someone not named Conor McGregor headlining on June 29.

Ariel Helwani on Conor McGregor

“It’s not 100% off but I’d be extremely surprised at this point if it remains and they are actively negotiating with multiple camps to find a replacement,” he added. “It’s all up in the air still but they are proceeding at this time like they need a replacement.”

Ariel Helwani Offers Additional Insight into the Conor McGregor Drama

Helwani continued to field questions from fans on X, revealing that the cancelation of McGregor vs. Chandler is a “formality at this point” and that the promotion would not cancel the event like it did when Dan Henderson pulled out of his UFC 151 fight with Jon Jones back in 2012.

He also offered some insight into whether or not fans who have already purchased tickets will be eligible for a refund.

Belal Muhammad believes Leon Edwards is in for a rude awakening at UFC 304 in Manchester, England.

Muhammad is set to challenge Edwards for his welterweight title in July. Going into the fight, Muhammad is the betting underdog, and it is a very intriguing fight. Despite being the underdog, Muhammad has confidence he won’t just beat Edwards but will KO him.

“Honestly, I think I go in there and knock him out,” Muhammad said to Sneako (via MMANews). “When I look at my last stylistic matchups… I fought the best striker in the UFC in ‘Wonderboy’ [Stephen Thompson]. I fought the best grappler in the UFC, Demian Maia. I fought great finishers in Vicente Luque; I fought Gilbert Burns on three weeks’ notice. I think all those fights added up to this one fight like I said, god’s plan.

Belal Muhammad

“I think right now, I’m the best version of myself. And I think that Leon’s gonna get in there, him and his team there in Manchester, they’re gonna be surprised, they’re gonna be in a rude awakening. People will say whatever they wanna say but my last full camp I knocked out Sean Brady, Gilbert Burns fight was a three weeks’ notice fight. So we’re going out on my last full camp, and it was a knockout. This fight, I’m gonna knock out Leon Edwards,” Muhammad added.

If Muhammad does finish Edwards at UFC 304 it would be a statement win. But, doing so is easier said than done, as Muhammad only has five wins by knockout in his career while Edwards has never been finished in his entire MMA career.
