As noted, UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor met with UFC President Dana White this week regarding their recent issues. Shortly after the meeting, White posted a “smiley face” on social media. Meanwhile, McGregor took part in the interview seen above.

McGregor spoke with ESPN’s Kenny Mayne about his meeting with the UFC boss man on Wednesday evening.

“Good conversation like it always is,” McGregor said of the meeting. “We have a good relationship. It is what it is. It happens. This is the fight game. Sometimes emotions get into it. But it’s important to recognize that emotions have no place in business. That’s essentially what it was last night. We just set it aside. There’s no place for emotions in this. We are doing beautiful things. So let’s continue. Let’s fix it and let’s continue.”

When asked by Mayne where on a football field his current relationship with White and Lorenzo Fertitta would be, McGregor’s razor-sharp wit returned.

“Sitting in the middle,” McGregor replied. “In a good place.”

When pressed by Mayne and asked if things between he and the UFC are better than before, McGregor stated the following.

“Yeah, of course,” McGregor said. “Of course.”

Although the story going around some MMA circles is that Holly Holm turned down a fight against Cris Cyborg at UFC 198 in Curitiba, Brazil this past weekend, “The Preacher’s Daughter” is claiming that is not the case.

Holm spoke with Dave Ross of 120 Sports this week and said the reason she didn’t take the fight against Cyborg at UFC 198 was due to a timing issue. As Holm explained, she was still hoping to secure an immediate title rematch against Miesha Tate.

“I was just kind of holding on to see if I could get the rematch for the belt,” Holm said. … “I’m not against fighting Cyborg. It just didn’t seem like the right time.”

Holm continued, explaining that the 135 pound or 140 pound weight class is not an issue with her like it appears to be with several of the other bantamweight contenders in the UFC women’s division. As Holm explains, she’ll fight Cyborg at 135 or 140 pounds.

“I’m not even stuck on the 135 compared to the 140 stuff,” Holm said. “It’s not really a big thing for me.”

“In boxing, I fought in three weight classes,” Holm said. “I’m not gonna say that I’m against going at 140. I actually think Cyborg might able to do 135. Who knows? But that’s definitely something that could be an option for the future. I’m actually really happy for her victory. I really like Cyborg. I think she’s a great gal.”

UFC Cuts Lucas Martins Following A Win, Martins Explains The Situation

lucas-martins

Despite a victory over Robert Whiteford in his most recent Octagon appearance, UFC has decided to cut Lucas Martins from the active talent roster.

Combate was the first to report the news that Martins, who signed a new three-fight deal after picking up three finishes in his first four fights with the UFC, finishing up the deal with the aforementioned win over Whiteford, is now free to negotiate with outside MMA promotions.

“My manager (Diego) Lima was talking to the UFC, and said that the division is full,” Martins told MMAFighting.com. “Even though I was coming off a win, my contract is over and they told me to get a couple more wins outside the UFC, two nice knockouts, and they would definitely sign me again. I wasn’t expecting that because I was coming off a win, but it’s fine.”

“I’ve done a lot of things in there,” he said. “There are athletes in the UFC that haven’t done half of what I did, and this is happening to me. I’ll keep my head up and continue doing my job. I’m looking at other fights now and go back to the UFC because they pay us better. I don’t fight for status, I fight for money to help my family.”

Invicta FC Keeping Spot Open For Cris Cyborg Title Defense

If Cris “Cyborg” Justino sticks to her word, Invicta FC president Shannon Knapp is keeping a spot open for her.

If Cris “Cyborg” Justino sticks to her word, Invicta FC president Shannon Knapp is keeping a spot open for her.

Cyborg shot down a reported UFC 201 fight with Germaine de Randamie recently, stating that she’ll defend her Invicta FC featherweight title next.

Knapp told MMAjunkie that the Invicta FC 18 event on July 29 – one day before UFC 201 in Atlanta – would move ahead with Cyborg in the main event if that is the road she decides to take. Knapp, though, stressed that she is currently signed to a Zuffa contract and could be placed on that card instead.

“I’m working on the 29th,” she said. “If all parties agree, then certainly she would (headline).”

Cyborg (16-1) ran through Leslie Smith at UFC 198 this past weekend. The contest took place at a catchweight of 140 pounds, though the Brazilian came in a pound under that mark. She has stated issues with trying to get down to 135 in the past to compete for the UFC’s bantamweight division.

Rodrigo Botti Explains Sucker-Punching Matt Brown In Brazil This Past Weekend

According to UFC welterweight contender Matt Brown’s former Brazilian jiu-jitsu coach Rodrigo Botti, his sucker-punch of Brown in the hotel lobby after UFC 198 was actually revenge of a cheap attack he claims Brown and his friends did to him in the past.

Botti, who sucker-punched Brown in the lobby of a hotel in Curitiba, Brazil this past weekend, only to get caught by Brown’s friends and beaten down after he tried running (watch the video of Botti getting beaten down here), spoke with MMAFighting.com to explain his side of the story.

Below is an excerpt from Botti’s conversation with the MMA website, where he explains the back-story behind his decision to sucker-punch Brown in Curitiba this past weekend.

“When you’re cowardly assaulted like I was, you can’t control yourself. This guy destroyed my career, I lost part of my vision because of him, had to do another surgery. I couldn’t sleep normally for 15 months, it changed my entire life. I simply exploded (when I saw him)… He was a coward when he did what he did to me, and I’m satisfied with my attitude now. We are even. Everything could have been prevented if he had admitted he was wrong when he attacked me, or at least called me apologizing. Everybody is entitled to make a mistake, but the problem is that he had a fight coming up with Johnny Hendricks and a win could get him a title shot, so he was afraid of being punished. He decided to lie about it. That’s when it became personal, brother. I would never work with him anymore, but if he apologized, I’d forget it. If people are saying I was a coward against Matt Brown, which I don’t think I was, I’ll say that one cowardly action was paid back with another. But I don’t believe I was a coward.”
