CM Punk recently spoke to Yahoo Sports about his new career as an MMA fighter. and revealed some advice he got from fellow former WWE champ and MMA enthusiast Batista. Punk, who has yet to make his octagon debut, currently has an 8-fight deal with the UFC.

“Part of my reason for most of the decisions I make in life is I don’t want to have regrets,” Punk said. “I talked to Dave Bautista [an ex-WWE wrestler who has one pro MMA fight] and he’s a great guy to talk to about this kind of stuff because he did the same thing. He said, ‘You’ve got to do it. You’ve got to chase your dream. You’re going to wake up one day and realize that you were presented an opportunity and you could have done it, but didn’t.’ So it’s a big reason.”

Back in 2012, Punk had positive things to say about Batista leaving WWE to enter the world of competitive MMA:

“It was something that he wanted to do. He loves it so he put his mind to it and did it, and I think that amazing,” Punk told The MMA Hour. “I don’t think anybody can criticize that. He has no delusions of grandeur. He’s not trying to get a big, fat UFC contract. He’s not trying to coast on his name from the WWE. He’s just fighting because he wanted to experience it.”

CM Punk also tackled the issue of backlash from MMA fans in his Yahoo Sports interview this week. Punk says he loves the sport of MMA, and that fans should be more patient with him while he trains for his delayed UFC debut.

“The people who don’t like the UFC and want to see it fail are always going to find the negatives,” he said. “You hear them. They say, ‘Oh, they didn’t do this,’ or ‘They’re not doing this right.’ The people who like it are going to buy the pay-per-view, and I want to respect them and the other fighters and this sport by being as prepared as I can. But there’s always going to be people who don’t like it or who have a problem with it.”

“I love the sport, and I have for a long time,” he added. “I’d stay up late and watch the Pride New Year’s Eve shows. I watch all the UFC pay-per-views. I’m a fan. I love this stuff. Literally, I looked at it, and I said, ‘That’s something I want to do.’”

Punk is expected to make his UFC debut at either UFC 199 or UFC 200.

Mikey Gall will fight Michael Jackson at UFC 196, and if he wins, he will face CM Punk. Gall recently spoke with The Sun about Punk’s transition from pro wrestling to MMA.

“I think it’s a ballsy move. I respect him, he’s made himself a superstar in professional wrestling,” Gall said. “He’s obviously a special guy. But I think he’s coming into MMA and against any MMA fighter he’s gonna be in trouble—but especially in trouble with me. I’m so excited man.”

“I’m gonna prepare for him like he’s the best fighter in the world, I’m gonna train my butt off, that’s how I always go into every fight. I think I’m gonna hit him and I’m gonna hurt him early.”

Gall has a record of 1-0, and calls out CM Punk on an upcoming episode of Dana White’s YouTube series Looking For A Fight. If Gall is victorious at UFC 196, his next opponent will be Punk at either UFC 199 or UFC 200.

While it will be a while before fans see her back in the Octagon again, you can watch Ronda Rousey debut her sketch-comedy chops this Saturday evening, as the former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion becomes the first UFC fighter in history to host Saturday Night Live.

On Wednesday, SNL released the above video promo for this Saturday’s episode, which features Rousey as the host of the legendary late night program, becoming only the third fighter in general, boxers included, to take to the famous Studio 8H stage.

Later this year, Rousey will team with former SNL Head Writer and star of 30 Rock, Tina Fey, in “Do Nothing Bitches,” a movie based off of Rousey’s infamous catchphrase for non-independent women that has been green-lit by Universal.

As far as her fighting career is concerned, Rousey recently told TMZ that rumors of her walking away from the sport are untrue, and that she still fully intends to compete for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship in a rematch against Holly Holm at some point in the 2016 calendar year.

That is, of course, provided Holm gets past Miesha Tate in March.

Mark Hunt recently detailed his game plan for UFC Fight Night 84 to FOXSports.com. Hunt will be facing Frank Mir at the event, and says he’s not afraid of going to the ground with Mir during the fight.

“It’s going to be a great fight. I know his game plan and I know that he knows mine, you know. I know he knows I’m going to try and knock his lips off, and he knows that I know he’s going to try and break my sh-t up [laughs],” he predicted.

“Oh, I can get on the ground with anybody,” he boasted. “Like I said, you gotta be well versed in all areas to be playing around at this top end. You know what I mean? So I should’ve been a black belt already, I mean I’ve been training in jiu-jitsu for a long, long time. But yeah, I don’t mind going to the ground or wherever. If the party’s going there, then that’s where we’re going. That’s fine.”

“I think Frank Mir is gonna be trying to take me down, and I’m gonna be knocking him out,” he concluded.

UFN 84 takes place at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Australia on Sunday, March 20, in Australia. Due to the time difference, the event will be airing on March 19 in North America on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

It didn’t come as a surprise to those following the game, but EA Sports issued a press release today announcing that the “mystery fighter” pre-order bonus for EA Sports UFC 2 is going to be Mike Tyson. Tyson is well-known to be a big UFC fan who freely acknowledges that he would have been terrible in MMA because he has no grappling skills. His inclusion is a nice hook on top of MMA legends Kazushi Sakuraba and Bas Rutten also being part of the pre-order bonus pack, and with a lot of improvements to the game itself, one would think it outsells the first game.

The game is out on March 15h and available for pre-order now. Here’s the press release that EA issued:

MIKE TYSON MAKES HIS OCTAGON® DEBUT IN EA SPORTS UFC 2

Fans Can Pre-Order the Deluxe Edition to Get Day-One Access Starting March 15

Two Versions of the Iconic Fighter Will Be Unlockable In Game: ‘Iron Mike Tyson’ and ‘Legacy Mike Tyson’

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – January 20, 2016 – One of the most iconic athletes of all time is coming to EA SPORTS™ UFC® 2. Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) announced today that Mike Tyson will make his mixed martial arts debut as an unlockable fighter when the game comes out starting March 15, 2016. Fans who pre-order EA SPORTS UFC 2 will get instant day-one access to Tyson, and all players can unlock him by progressing in the game and making it to the Hall of Fame in Career Mode. The former undisputed heavyweight boxing champion of the world packs the strongest punching power of any fighter in the game and will fight across two different weight classes: light heavyweight and heavyweight. For a first look at the former champ in EA SPORTS UFC 2, watch the Mike Tyson reveal video.

“When you think about the most devastating fighters of all time, Mike Tyson is either around, or at the top of everyone’s list. It’s fun to think that if MMA was as popular back when he was competing as it is today, you might have seen Tyson put on four ounce gloves and step into the Octagon®,” said Creative Director Brian Hayes. “This is one of those great ‘what ifs’ that we get to create when making a game like EA SPORTS UFC 2.”

Two versions of Tyson are coming to the game: “Iron” Mike Tyson based on his climb to stardom and string of invincible fights in the eighties; and “Legacy” Mike Tyson, developed with the end of his illustrious career in mind. Fans who pre-order the standard edition of EA SPORTS UFC 2 will get day-one access to “Iron” Mike Tyson. Those who opt for the Deluxe Edition will receive both “Iron” Mike as well as “Legacy” Mike Tyson. Both versions are available to unlock by progressing in the game.
