Lyoto Machida has been removed from Saturday’s UFC on FOX 19 co-main event with Dan Henderson after admitting to taking a banned substance during an out-of-competition test. Machida stated he did not know the substance was banned to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.
Machida is a former UFC light heavyweight champion and one-time middleweight title contender. He previously bested Henderson.
Saturday’s card has taken quite the hit since it was first announced. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua was the first to bow out, exiting a planned fight with Rashad Evans. He was replaced by Glover Teixeira, and that bout moved into the main event role when Tony Ferguson was injured and forced out of a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The UFC has released a statement regarding the matter:
The UFC organization was made aware today by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, that Lyoto Machida declared the usage of a banned substance during an out-of-competition sample collection last week. Machida stated that he was unaware that the substance was prohibited both in and out of competition and, in accordance with the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, his disclosure of usage will be taken into consideration by USADA during any potential results management and adjudication process.
Given this information, UFC officials have elected to remove Machida from his scheduled bout against Dan Henderson this Saturday in Tampa, Fla. Henderson will be re-booked for a new bout in the near future.
The new FOX main card will feature these four bouts, according to UFC representative Dave Sholler:
New FOX Main Card: Glover-Rashad, Rose-Tecia, Khabib-Horcher, Swanson-Dias

Glover Teixeira has shared the Octagon with both main event fighters at UFC 197.
Teixeira, who returns to action this weekend against Rashad Evans at UFC on FOX 19, bested Ovince Saint Preux and was defeated by Jon Jones for the light heavyweight title.
So, with Jones and OSP set to meet for the interim belt, who better than Teixeira to discuss what might transpire when the cage door closes in Las Vegas.
“I think Jon Jones has a big advantage because he was in camp already, and he’s got a better ground game and is a better wrestler,” said Teixeira, during an interview with MMAjunkie. “‘OSP’ is a tricky fighter. He’s got that chance, but it’s going to be a tough fight for him.”
Teixeira scored a win over Saint Preux last year and will carry a 24-4 overall mark into his bout with Evans, a former champion himself.
“Jon Jones is a champion for a reason,” Teixeira said. “He’s a very tough, well-rounded fighter. It’s one of those things. I’m not rooting for anybody over here. I think they both deserve a chance because they work hard.”

To the surprise of no one, Mike Jackson has been released from the UFC.
Jackson, a MMA journalist who competes in MMA and boxing, among other competitive events, was brought in to the UFC under a unique set of circumstances.
After signing former WWE Superstar CM Punk, UFC had the issue of figuring out who to select as the opponent for a former pro wrestler who has never competed in MMA and has no significant competitive background to speak of in martial arts.
As a result, UFC brought in MMA prospect Mickey Gall, who impressively won his MMA debut and then called out Punk while Dana White was in attendance filming for his “Dana White: Lookin’ For A Fight” reality show. UFC then signed Gall and brought in Jackson to be his opponent in a UFC preliminary fight, where Gall would officially become Punk’s first UFC opponent if he got past Jackson.
The Gall-Jackson fight saw Gall floor Jackson and choke him out quickly in the first round, setting up the Gall-Punk fight, which has yet to happen due to Punk undergoing surgery.
Mike Jackson, who was officially released by the UFC this week, told MMAFighting.com the following:
“I was released few weeks ago. I wish they would have done it sooner, or gave me the Artem [Lobov] fight. But I’m getting back to boxing next month.”
