Jose Aldo made quite a statement this past weekend in Brazil.

Aldo defeated rising featherweight star Renato Moicano in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN+ 2 from Fortaleza, Brazil. Aldo finished his fellow countryman in the second round with a devastating barrage of strikes. With only a few fights left on his UFC contract before retiring, Aldo is showing he’s still a force to be reckoned with.

Speaking at the post-fight press conference, Aldo said he apologized to Moicano after their bout for “getting in the way of his dreams” (via MMA Fighting):

“First of all, I thanked him for the fight,” Aldo said. “I think that I had to say sorry because I was getting in the way of his dreams.”

Aldo wants to see Brazil dominate the featherweight division, and hopes Moicano continues to fight towards that despite his recent setback:

“We need the new generation,” Aldo said. “We need new athletes in my division, too. I always dreamed of having a total domination of Brazil in the division and I lost that so I want to give him the strength for that. So now it is in the past and I hope that he keeps going.”

“Scarface” believes that Moicano has the talent and skills to make it at the championship level. His only two losses come against Brian Ortega and Aldo, two of the best the weight class has to offer. If Moicano believes in himself and his team, Aldo believes the future is bright for his fellow Brazilian:

“He’s got his talent and he’s got his skills and he’s got a great future ahead of him,” Aldo said. “He needs to believe in his team and hopefully he can fight for the title one day and become the champion.”

Jose Aldo is still a force to be reckoned with at 145 pounds.

“Scarface” picked up his first victory since 2016 this past summer, defeating Jeremy Stephens via TKO. Tonight (Sat. February 2, 2019) Aldo followed up with yet another stoppage victory, finishing Renato Moicano in the second round of their UFC on ESPN+ 2 co-main event. Now, Aldo is on his first win streak since 2014.

Aldo is on the final fights of his UFC career, with two left, he hopes to fight them out in front of his native Brazilian crowd. While he challenges the likes of former 155-pound champion Anthony Pettis, for now, he can enjoy his victory in Fortaleza tonight.

Last night (Sat. February 2, 2019) UFC on ESPN+ 2 went down from the Centro de Formação Olímpica do Nordeste in Fortaleza, Brazil.

On the main card, UFC light heavyweight Johnny Walker nearly stole the show. He made quick work of  Justin Ledet in the form of a 15-second first-round TKO victory. His spectacular performance was enough for a $50,000 Performance Of The Night bonus.

The UFC’s all-time submission leader, Charles Oliveira, followed-up for Brazil with yet another submission victory. He forced lightweight David Teymur to submit to an anaconda choke in the second round. Along with extending his UFC record, Oliveira took home a Performance Of The Night bonus worth $50,000.

Arguably the greatest featherweight of all time, Jose Aldo, also made a huge statement in front of his native crowd. “Scarface” obliterated young opponent Renato Moicano in the second round with a ruthless body assault. The victory has Aldo on his first back-to-back win streak since 2014. Aldo’s victory earned him a $50,000 Performance Of The Night bonus as well.

And finally, Marlon Moraes all but wrapped up the next 135-pound title opportunity. He submitted Raphael Assuncao with a mounted guillotine in the first round after dropping his fellow countryman with some hard shots. Along with, likely, the next shot at the bantamweight throne, Moraes banked an extra $50,000 with a Performance Of The Night bonus.

UFC on ESPN+ 2 went down from the Centro de Formação Olímpica do Nordeste in Fortaleza, Brazil last night (Sat. February 2, 2019).

In the main event of the night, Marlon Moraes silenced all doubt that he should receive the next shot at the UFC bantamweight championship. Moraes defeated Raphael Assuncao via first-round submission after dropping his fellow Brazilian with some heavy shots. After the fight, Moraes said he’s not sure champion TJ Dillashaw deserves to fight him.

He might just fight somebody else and let Dillashaw mess around with the “little boys” at 125 pounds. The mixed martial arts (MMA) community certainly had a lot to say about Moraes’ spectacular victory. Check out how they reacted on Twitter here:
