Stipe Miocic

In the UFC 260 main event we have an epic heavyweight rematch between Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou.

Who’ll emerge with the heavyweight title? Let’s see what the LowKickMMA staff think.

Jordan Ellis: I almost feel bad for making this pick but I’m backing Francis Ngannou at UFC 260. For me, Stipe Miocic is one of the most underrated champions in MMA history. And here I am picking against him against a fighter he has already handily beaten. I just cannot look past the power of Ngannou. I believe he will connect early and KO Miocic to claim UFC gold later tonight.

Prediction: Francis Ngannou

Alex Lough: It’s nice to see with all that’s changed since 2018, all the questions leading in to this fight remain exactly the same as the first time they met. Will Ngannou find Miocic’s chin early? Or will he be forced to work off his back for 25 minutes? We assume Ngannou’s wrestling has gotten better since he moved his camp to Xtreme Couture, but we’ve yet to see it actually put to the test. We do know that Miocic won’t come in intimated by the power of Ngannou as other fighters have (looking at you, Rozenstruik). That could help him, or it could be his downfall. There’s really no way to predict if Ngannou is going to hit paydirt, but it’s safe to assume it won’t happen after the second round. Stipe is the heavyweight GOAT, and I think he has the tools to stretch the fight in to deep water and take over late. And still.

Prediction: Stipe Miocic

Frank Bonada: So seeing as this fight is a rematch, with several years in between the original bout and the coming fight, it only makes sense to analyse how these fighters have changed since their original meeting. And at the end of the day, there isn’t much to indicate that Francis Ngannou is any more prepared for Stipe Miocic than he was before their first fight. Ngannou has still been getting incredibly early, brutal KO’s. There is nothing there to suggest that he will be capable of defeating an opponent who can make it past the first 2 rounds. So based on that, I have to go with Mioicic to win. However, there are added caveats to this fight such as the fact that Ngannou has faced a range of opposition since the first fight, whilst Mioicic has only fought DC, albeit 3 times. Miocic was also knocked out cold for the first time in his UFC career. And he is beginning to enter the latter years of his career. These factors keep the matchup interesting, But I still have to go Stipe Miocic to win via Decision.

Prediction: Stipe Miocic

Maria Morales: While I have nothing but love for Stipe, I felt that Ngannou’s lack of a true gym was his undoing in the first fight. His body composition coming into the rematch looks phenomenal and I think the rematch favors him if he’s actually improved.  Stipe is crafty, but I think Francis gets the KO/TKO no later than the 3rd round.

Prediction: Francis Ngannou

Harry O’Connor: I’ve been honestly thinking about this one all week and I’m still not sure, Francis Ngannou is great and there’s no doubt he’s improved since the pairs first bout, whereas I feel with Stipe, a lot of people would’ve expected him to have started to decline but I haven’t really seen anything that’s shown me that. I do feel that Ngannou is too good and powerful to not be a UFC Champion one day. However, right now I think Stipe will win tomorrow, he’s fought more recently and had more cage time recently than Ngannou. I’m going to predict a Stipe win tomorrow by decision again.

Prediction: Stipe Miocic

Ryan MacCarthy: The first time they fought, i was there NBD, Stipe controlled most of the fight, although he did get hit a good amount of times, but never went down from Francis’ power. If Stipe implements the same game plan as last time, wrestling, I believe he will win. If he doesn’t, I believe he will get knocked out. If you take away Ngannou’s power by wrestling him, you’re going to beat him. He’s a big guy. It takes a lot of muscle for him to move around and throw punches like he does. So the way im looking at it is, if this goes past the 1st round, this fight will really really favor Stipe big time. Thats a BIG IF tho. Francis Ngannou without a doubt has the most power this sport has ever seen. He is the Mike Tyson of MMA. In Ngannou’s last 4 fights the longest he has fought is 1:11. That is not enough time to prove that he has finessed his wrestling skills to stop the greatest heavyweight we’ve ever seen. I think the only way Francis can win this fight is if he bull rushes him out the gate and clips him. Its going to be absolute CHAOS folks. This fight alone is worth the PPV price.

Prediction: Stipe Miocic

In the UFC Vegas 22 main event, two middleweight contenders will scrap it out over five rounds. Derek Brunson and Kevin Holland are closing in on a shot at the middleweight title. Whoever emerges victoriously this Saturday evening will establish themselves as a standout contender at 185lbs.

Away from the main event, we have a stacked card. Join LowKickMMA as we break down some of our favourite matchups and hopefully pick some winners. If you’re looking to gamble on something besides the fights this weekend check out pay by phone casino Ireland at payforit casino.

Derek Brunson vs. Kevin Holland

The UFC Vegas 22 main event is a compelling fight between two of the best middleweight fighters in MMA. Derek Brunson has been a long-time contender in the UFC’s 185lb division. The 37-year-old is considered by many a gatekeeper but as of late has been trying to rid himself of that reputation. Three wins in a row have Brunson on the brink of big things, he’s priced at +150 to make it four in a row. Brunson will have to get by the -175 favourite Kevin Holland who enjoyed a sensational 2020. ‘Trailblazer’ picked up five wins last year, most notably he scored a crazy first round knockout win against Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza. Ultimately, we are backing Holland to continue his streak at UFC Vegas 22. The youngster should fare well over a long-distance fight. Brunson is known for fading fast if he doesn’t get the early finish, we doubt he’ll get that early stoppage at UFC Vegas 22.

Gregor Gillespie vs. Brad Riddell

In the UFC Vegas 22 co-main event we have an interesting lightweight fight. Gregor Gillespie returns to the Octagon for the first time in almost two years. Last time out he lost his undefeated record when he was brutally knocked out by Kevin Lee. Despite that,Gillespie is highly fancied heading into this fight – you’ll find him at odds of -250. The +200 underdog Brad Riddell will be tough opponent for Gillespie but ultimately we expect ‘The Gift’ will get back to winnings ways.

Adrian Yanez vs. Gustavo Lopez

Adrian Yanez looked sensational in his UFC debut and the bookmakers are clearly on his hype train as they are offering odds of -220 against Gustavo Lopez. The +180 underdog is certainly a step up in competition for Yanez and won’t go away easy. Ultimately though we think Yanez will do enough to continue his perfect start in the UFC.

Tai Tuivasa vs. Henry Hunsucker

Tai Tuivasa almost had a wasted trip. The Australian’s original opponent Don’Tale Mayes fell off UFC Vegas 22 earlier this week. Luckily the promotion was able to find a replacement opponent in Henry Hunsucker who will make his UFC debut this weekend. Tuivasa is of course one of the biggest favourites on the card at -350. If you’re looking to bet on Tuivasa but want better odds we’d suggest backing him to get the stoppage. If you fancy Hunsucker to cause an upset he’s price at +275.

What UFC Vegas 22 fight are you most looking forward to?

Leon Edwards vs. Belal Muhammad – UFC Vegas 21 Staff Predictions

Leon EdwardsIn the UFC Vegas 21 main event, Leon Edwards returns from his long layoff to face #13 ranked welterweight Belal Muhammad. Who’ll win? Leon Edwards

In the UFC Vegas 21 main event, Leon Edwards returns from his long layoff to face #13 ranked welterweight Belal Muhammad.

Who’ll win? Let’s see what the LowKickMMA staff think…

Jordan Ellis: I’m picking Leon Edwards in this one. I actually think this is a pretty nice fight for ‘Rocky’ who is coming off a well-documented lengthy layoff.I truly believe he is the better fighter everywhere and will put on a dominant display tonight. A stoppage win will really cement Edwards as next in line for a shot at the welterweight title.

Prediction: Leon Edwards

Alex Lough: Belal Muhammad makes a quick turnaround against a guy that hasn’t fought since Old Town Road was a thing. Edwards’ 602 day layoff is obviously the biggest narrative going into the fight, and makes it hard to predict. Under normal circumstances, I’d say that Rocky keeps Muhammad on the outside with leg kicks and jabs to cruise his way to a decision. But ring rust can be a hell of a thing, and Muhammad’s boxing, wrestling and relentless pace make him a tough out every time, and are a bona fide reason to “Remember The Name”. That said, there are levels to this thing, and I think that even with the extended layoff, Edwards is a step above. Muhammad will make it close, but Rocky by decision.

Prediction: Leon Edwards

Frank Bonada: One of Belal Muhammad’s most effective tools is the constant pressure and pace he is able to put on his opponents. However, I believe this will play right into Leon Edward’s style. A strong clinch game is an extremely effective neutraliser of pressure fighting, and Edward’s is one of the best clinch fighters in the division. Combine this with the fact that Muhammad fought only a month ago, and certainly took some level of damage. Edwards has also comfortably gone 5 rounds before, whereas this is new territory for Belal. All these factors point to a Leon Edwards win. ‘Rocky’ to win via 4th round TKO.

Prediction: Leon Edwards

Curtis Calhoun: I think Belal Muhammad is tough, but the result will be eerily similar to Leon Edwards’ last fight against RDA. A five-round grind to get it done. Leon’s elbows in the clinch late in the fight will be the difference and “Rocky” will remind everyone just how underrated he is in the UFC’s Welterweight division.

Prediction: Leon Edwards

Who are you backing in the UFC Vegas 21 main event? Leon Edwards or Belal Muhammad?

Jan Blachowicz vs. Israel Adesanya – UFC 259 Staff Predictions

Jan Blachowicz

In the UFC 259 main event light-heavyweight titleholder Jan Blachowicz will look to defend his belt for the first time.

Israel Adesanya steps up from middleweight hoping to become a dual-weight champion.

Who’ll win? Let’s see what the LowKickMMA staff think…

Jordan Ellis: I actually think Jan Blachowicz will KO Israel Adesanya to retain his title. ‘Stylebender’ is clearly a great fighter but he’s making a mistake stepping up to light-heavyweight without properly preparing in my opinion. He’s got the arrogance of an undefeated fighter but for my money will soon be humbled. Blachowicz is a talent mixed martial artist and will be able to use his skills and size to put it on Adesanya in the UFC 259 main event.

Prediction: Jan Blachowicz

Alex Lough: It’s no secret that the UFC wants Adesanya to win here. They view him as the next big thing, and having him as double champ only helps sell tickets. In order for that to happen, he has to get through a formidable opponent in Blachowicz. The 38-year old has seemingly gotten better with age as he has learned to adapt to what works. Despite coming in to the UFC promising “lethal Polish power”, Blachowicz only registered one victory by (T)KO from 2011 to 2018. In his five fights since then? He’s had three. He’s begun to sit down on his punches more, and he’s become  someone who can end the fight as soon as he catches you; but there in lies the problem. Adesanya is as slick and mobile a fighter as we’ve ever seen. He flows in and out of the pocket at will, and avoids everything his opponents throw at him like a ghost. The variety of strikes in his portfolio is mind-blowing, and it is near impossible to train for what he brings. Picking against Blachowicz has turned out poorly for me pretty much every time I’ve done it, but I feel especially confident here. Izzy by KO.

Prediction: Israel Adesanya

Ross Markey: Rounding off the spectacular pay-per-view showcase, Israel Adesanya has the opportunity to join an elite list of combatants in UFC history as a two-weight world champion held simultaneously. It’s unchartered environment for Adesanya in mixed martial arts, and in my opinion, Blachowicz offers the biggest obstacle from the top to the bottom of the division Adesanya must hurdle to achieve that aforenoted status. Nevertheless, I’m picking Adesanya to display a patient, composed and shrewd gameplan to eventually wear enough damage on the incredibly durable Blachowicz, prior to setting up a finish — likely in the later rounds. And New.

Prediction: Israel Adesanya

Ty Rosson: I have never held a fighter in such high regard as I do Adesanya. The man has some of the best striking we have ever seen not only in MMA but all of combat sports. That being said, Blachowicz is no easy out and he does not bite on striking feints like most fighters that have fought Adesanya do. This will be a tricky test for him and I think we will see him slowly download all of Blachowicz’s information and set a trap up that will be executed in the championship rounds. I’m going with Adesanya via fourth round KO

Prediction: Israel Adesanya

Amanda Nunes vs. Megan Anderson – UFC 259 Staff Predictions

Amanda NunesIn the UFC 259 co-main event dual-weight champion Amanda Nunes will look to defend her featherweight strap against Megan Anderson. Who’ll win? Amanda Nunes

In the UFC 259 co-main event dual-weight champion Amanda Nunes will look to defend her featherweight strap against Megan Anderson.

Who’ll win? Let’s see what the LowKickMMA staff think…

Jordan Ellis: Amanda Nunes all day! I haven’t checked the odds but for my money if Megan Anderson wins tonight it will be the biggest upset in UFC history. Nunes is the GWOAT. Anderson has looked good, not great during her UFC run. The Australian has lost to Felicia Spencer and Holly Holy recently and only beaten two relatively unknown fighters to earn a crack at the 145lb belt. I expect Nunes to dominate this fight, win however/whenever she wants and ultimately bring an end to the women’s featherweight division.

Prediction: Amanda Nunes

Alex Lough: Anderson has been a pretty popular pick to pull off the upset, but I just don’t see anyway it happens. I get that she has the physical tools to cause Nunes problems, but I’ve yet to see anything that shows me she can utilize them effectively enough to get the win here. She has size and range, but so did Cyborg, and Anderson wasn’t even able to keep Holly Holm at bay. She has slick submissions, but her grappling wasn’t good enough to get passed Felicia Spencer. Wins over Zarah dos Santos and Norma Dumont aren’t enough to convince me she offers much of a challenge for the title. Amanda Nunes is the GOAT of women’s combat sports. It’s about time people start putting some respect on her name. Nunes by KO.

Prediction: Amanda Nunes

Ross Markey: We’ve never seen a champion across arguably the entire UFC as dominant, and comfortable as two-weight world champion, Amanda Nunes. And frankly, I don’t see her reign as pacesetter in either bantamweight or featherweight ranks coming to an end — unless she decides to call it a career. Anderson has championship pedigree of her own with backing coming from Invicta FC featherweight spoils, however, unless James Krause and the crew at Glory MMA & Fitness in Kansas City have turned around her defensive grappling, Nunes has a certain advantage there, and a distinct route to victory. And Still.

Prediction: Amanda Nunes

Ty Rosson: Do you believe in miracles? I do, but just not in this fight. Anderson is without a doubt the biggest fighter that Nunes has fought but I still think it won’t be enough to dethrone the double champ. I’m taking Nunes via second round TKO

Prediction: Amanda Nunes

Jairzinho Rozenstruik vs. Ciryl Gane – UFC Vegas 20 Staff Predictions

jairzinho rozenstruikIn the UFC Vegas 20 main event we have a heavyweight match-up between Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Ciryl Gane. jairzinho rozenstruik

In the UFC Vegas 20 main event we have a heavyweight match-up between Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Ciryl Gane.

Let’s see who the LowKickMMA staff think will emerge with the win later tonight…

Jordan Ellis: I’ve really struggled making a pick for this fight. Ultimately, I’m going for Jairzinho Rozenstruik simply because I know more about him. Ciryl Gane for me is still someone I’m not quite sure on. He’s been rushed into the upper echelons of the UFC crazy quick. It’s one thing to get by a faded Junior dos Santos. It’s another to beat Rozenstruik who is in the prime of his career and has been mixing it at this level for some time now. If he does get the win France has a new star and a potential fight with Francis Ngannou is huge. However, I think Rozenstruik will show him why it’s not wise to rush in MMA and give the Gane the first loss of his professional career at UFC Vegas 20.

Prediction: Jairzinho Rozenstruik

Alex Lough: This fight is tough to call, as both men are at similar stages in their career and have fought similar levels of competition. On paper, the biggest difference is that Gane is the more well rounded of the two. However, Bigi Boy holds a definite power advantage, and as we saw last weekend, that’s all it takes in the heavyweight division. Rozenstruik’s only loss came when he panicked against Francis Ngannou – how else do you explain someone with that much striking experience trying to exchange while backing up with his chin in the air? That won’t happen against Gane. The Frenchman will have some success in the clinch and grappling in the first round, but once Bigi Boy finds his range in the second, it’s nighty-night. Rozenstruik by 2ND RD KO.

Prediction: Jairzinho Rozenstruik

Ty Rosson: Gane is one of my favorite heavyweights to watch of this new younger group of heavyweights coming through the UFC right now. He has the feet of a much lighter man and seems to have good risk management when it comes knowing when to open up on his opponents. On the other hand, Rozenstruik has nuclear bombs as fists and if he even hits you with a glancing blow, it could be lights out for his opponents. It should be a great fight but I’m going with Gane via decision.

Prediction: Ciryl Gane
