It appears Anderson Silva may have experienced a change of heart.
Silva suffered a fourth-round TKO defeat to Uriah Hall in the UFC Vegas 12 headliner last night. It was notably his last fight in the UFC as many observers wondered if this would also be the Brazilian’s last fight in mixed martial arts.
“I don’t know, first I’ll go back home and I go see with my team everything and let’s go see you know, because its tough to say this is my last or not because this is my air, this is what I do for my entire life and with my heart so let’s go see,” Silva said.
However, a day removed from the event and it seems Silva is now saying goodbye to the sport as a whole.
Here is the full translation of his Instagram post (via MMA Fighting):
“Good morning, my people. Today is a different day for a simple reason, say goodbye to an entire life dedicated to my sport. Yesterday was so special, I went there to do what I love. I didn’t imagine I would be as happy as I am now. Even in defeat, I’m feeling at peace. I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart, my team, my family, my friends, and everyone who watched the fight, know that it was always a great honor to fight all these years with your support.
“I want to thank the God for granting me the gift of the fight! Thank you my people for all understanding, for all your support and for all your amazing moments that we live in this sport together! I hope I left it in memory and in the heart of each of you a little of who I am, that you can overcome difficulties, every second of uncertainty and to overcome obstacles in your lives!
“Never think about giving up, as hard as things get at some point; know that I leave all my love, all my respect for you! Strength and honor always and God bless you all!”
Of course, this is still not confirmation that Silva has retired as he hasn’t specifically mentioned it as of yet. However, it appears he is heading that way and one person will be pleased to hear that.
UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya could only heap praise on Anderson Silva following UFC Vegas 12. Silva took on Uriah Hall in the UFC Vegas 12 headliner in what many believed to be his last-ever fight in the UFC. “The Spider” even had a promising start early on as many observers scored the first two rounds to his favor.
However, he was eventually dropped by Hall in the third and fourth round before losing via TKO. And while that was another loss on Silva’s record, it certainly won’t affect his legacy as one of the greatest and most entertaining fighters of all time.
The Brazilian was notably Adesanya’s idol as well as “The Last Stylebender” made sure to attend his final UFC fight and paid tribute to the former middleweight king soon after.
“The man. He’s the man,” Adesanya said. “Like f*ck. He’s just the man. Like seeing him in the cage…if you know, you know. If you fight, you know. If you’re in the UFC, you know. You saw me after my last fight, I embraced the moment. But he embraced the moment and he’s just got so much behind it because he’s done this sh*t forever.
“I’m just honored to be here, man — the guy that got me in the game. I get to watch him fight, his last fight in the UFC and ride into the sunset. It was competitive, he looked good. He froze Uriah at first and then Uriah found his confidence later on.”
In what was likely his last fight in the UFC, Anderson Silva suffered defeat at the hands of Uriah Hall. The pair took part in a middleweight bout in the UFC Vegas 12 headliner on Saturday in what was a back-and-forth contest with many observers having Silva winning the first two rounds. However, Hall was […]
The pair took part in a middleweight bout in the UFC Vegas 12 headliner on Saturday in what was a back-and-forth contest with many observers having Silva winning the first two rounds.
However, Hall was able to drop Silva after connecting right near the ear at the end of the third round. “The Spider” survived to make the fourth but would get dropped again by Hall who landed ground and pound to get the finish.
As a result, Hall got the biggest win of his career — notably against his idol — and has now won four of his last five fights.

Next up on the UFC Vegas 12 main card is a heavyweight bout between Maurice Greene and Greg Hardy.
Round 1: Greene starts off with a leg kick. Hardy returns with his own leg kick. Hardy hurts Greene early and has him on the ground as he looks to end things with ground and pound. Hardy lands a number of elbows and strikes on Greene’s stomach. Greene survives but has Hardy on top in half-guard. Hardy gets to his feet eventually and the fight returns to striking. Both fighters are breathing heavy as they are throwing very labored strikes. Greene lands a nice step-in knee to Hardy’s belly. Hardy lands a nice jab and follows it up with some leg kicks. The round comes to an end.
Round 2: The pair return to striking until Hardy drops Greene with a huge jab. Hardy goes for the kill and lands hammerfists before Herb Dean calls an end to the fight.
Official result: Greg Hardy defeats Maurice Greene via knockout ().
