Former UFC fighters Michael Bisping and Brendan Schaub think fans shouldn’t count out Bobby Green against Islam Makhachev.

Green will step up for his second fight in the same amount of weeks against Makhachev in the UFC Vegas 49 main event. He most recently defeated Nasrat Haqparast with his impressive boxing and movement at UFC 271.

Green got the call from the UFC to help save the UFC Vegas 49 card after Beneil Dariush suffered a significant injury in camp. While many have praised Green for being game for the short-notice challenge, few fans believe he has a legitimate shot at the elite grappler Makhachev.

But Bisping and Schaub are proud to be part of that minority. They not only believe that Green can surprise a lot of people against the -900 favorited Makhachev but could also leave Las Vegas with the upset win.

Michael Bisping Explains Why Bobby Green Has A Reasonable Chance To Pull Off An Upset

During a recent video on his YouTube channel, Bisping alluded to Green’s underrated ground game as a reason to not rule out an upset at UFC Vegas 49.

“For Bobby Green to step up, I mean, what an opportunity,” Bisping said. “And by the way, let’s be honest, Bobby can win this fight. On the feet, Bobby is way better, simple as that. Islam can strike, of course. He’s not a one-trick pony. He’s not just a wrestler, right? But he’s nowhere near as fast as Bobby Green. He’s nowhere near as slick. He hasn’t got the footwork, either, that Bobby has. Now, when it comes to wrestling and jiu-jitsu, I’ll give Islam the edge there. He’s better. He’s better in that regard, but you’ve got to get (Green) down.

“One thing we know about Bobby Green is the sprawl. He has a beautiful sprawl. He also has really, really good takedowns. I doubt he’s going to use these. In this fight, it wouldn’t be smart to take down Islam. That’s just going into his world, giving him what he wants. So Bobby needs to stay on the feet, try and put Islam on the back foot, but be careful that when he goes forward, Islam doesn’t shoot underneath. Obviously he’s going to get taken down. Look at what Islam did against Dan Hooker.” (h/t MMA Junkie)

Makhachev is arguably one of the top grapplers in the UFC, as evidenced by his most recent first-round submission of Dan Hooker at UFC 267. He has won nine in a row and could be on the verge of a lightweight title shot.

Brendan Schaub Also Likes The Idea Of Picking An Upset At UFC Vegas 49

Schaub, like Bisping, also believes that picking Green may not be an unwise choice. He explained why in a recent episode of The Schaub Show.

“It’s not a bad idea taking a chance on Bobby Green if you have some extra cash to f*ck around with. It’s not a terrible bet. It’s hard to plan for, short notice, huge underdog, main event. He’s an experienced fighter, very explosive, hard, hard to train for. So we’ll see.

“I would assume Makhachev tries to take him down early on to take away and nullify that XFactor that is Bobby Green. He gets him down early on, tries to break him, wears him out, nullify that kind of XFactor. Makhachev is an absolute monster when it comes to that.” (h/t BJPenn)

If Green can shock the world and stop the Makhachev hype train, he’ll no doubt emerge as a top contender in the lightweight division. As for Makhachev, he’s looking to keep his winning streak intact and potentially earn the winner of Charles Oliveira vs. Justin Gaethje for the belt.

Do you think Bobby Green has a chance against Islam Makhachev on short notice?

UFC lightweight contender Bobby Green knows taking a short-notice fight against Islam Makhachev is risky, but he’s ready for the challenge.

Green was just days removed from his win over Nasrat Harparast at UFC 271 when he got the call to fill in against Makhachev at UFC Vegas 49. This was after Beneil Dariush had to withdraw from the Feb. 26 headliner due to an injury in camp.

Welterweight star Jorge Masvidal won the promotion’s first, and likely only, BMF title over Nate Diaz at UFC 244. Green thinks his name should be included in the discussion for the hypothetical BMF champion of the 155-pound division.

In a recent Instagram post, Green hinted that he deserves to be considered the BMF champion of the lightweight division after taking a tough fight against Makhachev in a quick turnaround.

“If they had one for the lightweight division,” Green said in the caption.

Green has won two in a row after back-to-back losses to Rafael Fiziev and Thiago Moises. He got back on track with a gruesome knockout over Al Iaquinta at UFC 268 before earning an impressive win over Haqparast.

Green will face a tough challenge in Makhachev, who is arguably a tough matchup for most lightweights even with a full camp. Makhachev has won nine in a row including most recently over Dan Hooker at UFC 267.

Many have commended Green for taking the short-notice bout against Makhachev, but some doubt he has what it takes to stop Makhachev’s streak. However, if he’s able to pull off the upset, there won’t be many critics who will doubt his rhetorical BMF lightweight status.

What is your prediction for Bobby Green vs. Islam Makhachev?

Former UFC middleweight champion, Michael Bisping has touted short-notice replacement, Bobby Green’s striking expertise as a catalyst for a potential upset win over the streaking Islam Makhachev at UFC Vegas 49 next weekend.

Veteran lightweight staple, Green enters his first headliner under the promotion’s banner on just 10-days notice at UFC Vegas 49, replacing Beneil Dariush, who suffered a fractured fibula, in a 160lbs catchweight clash with Makhachev.

It’s an incredibly quick turnaround for Green who himself turned in a hugely impressive unanimous decision victory over Nasrat Haqparast at UFC 271 just weeks ago. And Bisping, who called the action in Green’s victory, has claimed that it would be foolish to count the Californian out against Makhachev due to his perceived striking advantage.

Bobby Green has competed under the UFC’s banner since his promotional bow all the way back in February 2013

“For Bobby Green to step up – what an opportunity, and by the way, let’s be honest, Bobby can win this fight,” Michael Bisping said on his YouTube channel. “On the feet, Bobby is way better, simple as that. Islam (Makhachev) can strike, of course, he’s not a one-trick pony, he’s not just a wrestler, right? But he’s nowhere near as fast as Bobby Green. He’s nowhere near as slick. He hasn’t got the footwork either. Now, when it comes to wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu, I’ll give Islam the edge there.”

“He’s better, he’s better in that regard, but you gotta get him down,” Michael Bisping continued. “One thing we know about Bobby Green is the sprawl, he has a beautiful sprawl and really good takedowns, I doubt he will use it in the fight, it wouldn’t be smart to takedown Islam. Bobby needs to stay on the feet and put Islam on the back foot… Islam is great, we are all high on Isla, call me crazy, but I think there’s a good chance that Bobby Green might pull this off. There is also a very good chance Islam Makhachev takes him down and mauls him, but it won’t be that simple.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

Before his judging win over Haqparast, Green stopped fellow veteran and division staple, Al Iaquinta – snapping a two-fight losing run.

For Makhachev, the #4 ranked contender is currently riding a stunning nine-fight winning spree, most recently defeating Dan Hooker with a rather one-sided kimura in the opening round of their UFC 267 main card clash.

Despite finding herself booked for a promotional bow at UFC Vegas 49 next weekend against Josiane Nunes, Chilean flyweight, Jennifer Gonzalez has been officially removed seen her contract with the organization terminated just weeks following her initial signature.

The 35-year-old, who boasts a 13-5 professional record, had penned a deal with the organization earlier this month, and was slated to make her first outing on the contract at UFC Vegas 49 on February 26.

Jennifer Gonzalez has competed for the likes of Combate Global and Jungle Fight during her professional career

However, reports earlier this week detailed how Gonzalez had been removed from her scheduled flyweight bow against Nunes at the UFC Apex facility and had been released from her deal with the UFC.

Whilst official reasoning for Gonzalez’s departure remain undisclosed, the 35-year-old, 18-fight professional veteran has detailed a feud with anti-doping agency, USADA, official testers for the UFC, following her departure from the promotion.

“I don’t even know what happened, the truth,” Jennifer Gonzalez told ESPN Chile as translated by Bloody Elbow. “What happened was that this fight (against Josiane Nunes) was all rushed, all rushed. When they (the UFC) informed me of this fight, it meant that I had to do medical tests, blood tests, etc. Also, my passport was expired. Then I had to start doing the processing of my passport. I was out of the gym many times. USADA said that I needed to create a schedule telling them of my location at all times. I did not take that requirement at heart, but I made the schedule telling them that I was at the gym from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. But I was leaving the gym to solve some of the issues for this fight, like physicals and that was it. Nothing more important than that.”

“I was arriving home from an interview with Gonzalo Egas and I was surprised to see the people from USADA were outside of my residence, which is next to the gym,” Jennifer Gonzalez explained. “In Chile, USADA has never approached me. I invited them in and told them to wait for me at the gym. What happened is my house is next to the gym, it’s two buildings with two different gates. I was entering my vehicle into the garage, and the guy from USADA tells me he can’t lose sight of me. I told him that if he came with me, the dogs would catch him. I have two rottweilers. I requested two minutes to get the dogs in, park my truck and meet them at the gym. And when I told him that, I did not realize that he got upset. I opened the doors, let the dogs in, changed me clothes and went to the gym. And they were gone.”

“They had a conflict with Pablo, my partner and coach. Because they wanted to enter from the side and the dogs were, where I left everything open for Pablo to get into the truck,” Jennifer Gonzalez said. “When Pablo was entering the truck, they did not identify themselves as USADA. They thought that I was hiding from them. I don’t mind people going to the gym through the other gate, but why would they want to come through my house to go to the gym?”

Gonzalez detailed how upset she was left by the whole situation, maintaining that throughout her professional career, she had always been a “clean” fighter.

“I was very upset and tired of it,” Jennifer Gonzalez said. “I have never asked them for anything. I have never asked the sport for anything because I know they don’t give anything. I have earned everything alone and I have never had any problems. I was in another country, I fought. I was always clean. Now this happens, and it happens in Chile. From one Chilean to another Chilean. I explained to them why I was asking them to wait, but they felt like they were above me.”

“I spoke to them very kind, respectful,” Jennifer Gonzalez said. “They seemed like they were the owners of my house. And that’s not right. It’s my house, it’s a private matter. I don’t know. Anyway, I’m tired. I trained since I was 13-years-old. I have competed in many places, a great record. I’m at a good level and I know I can win that fight. I’m tired. Sometimes you fall, you get up, you fall and you get up. One more is nothing.”

UFC Vegas 49 is slated to take place on February 26. from the UFC Apex facility, with a short notice 160lbs catchweight main event between Islam Makhachev and Bobby Green booked to take main event honors.

Terrance McKinney

UFC lightweight Terrance McKinney has title aspirations, but he’s also looking to make a difference outside of the octagon.

McKinney is set to make his UFC return at UFC Vegas 49 on Feb. 26 against another tough lightweight prospect Fares Ziam. The fight is expected to be an all-out war between two of the most explosive strikers in the division.

But, it hasn’t always been easy for McKinney. Just a few years ago, he was arrested in Spokane, WA after exhibiting symptoms of drug-induced delirium following mushroom and acid use. He was tased by officers and nearly died as a result of his substance use.

McKinney was sentenced to 250 hours of community service, which he used to speak with school children about his journey. He was able to pick himself up and move forward towards a since-prosperous fighting career.

During an exclusive interview with LowKickMMA, McKinney talked about his plans to make a difference outside of the competition.

Terrance McKinney Continues To Inspire Troubled Youth

“I still like doing speaking engagements because I love to give back,” McKinney said. “If my story can help one person reach their dream or get out of that little hiccup, then it’s an honor for me. I want to show people that you’re not the only one that’s made a mistake and bounced back.”

After a brief stint in LFA, he earned the biggest opportunity of his MMA career at UFC 263. He would go on to knock out Matt Frevola in just seven seconds, setting the record for the quickest finish in lightweight history.

McKinney’s social media pages exploded following a mini-documentary produced by the UFC regarding his troubled past. You can watch the video here.

McKinney hopes to enter the lightweight rankings by the end of 2022 and continue to show that you can make mistakes and not only learn from them, but bounce back better.

A UFC heavyweight showdown between Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Marcin Tybura is set to take place at UFC Vegas 49 on February 26.

MMA journalist Marcel Dorff was among the first to report the news.

Rozenstruik and Tybura were both in the heavyweight title discussion before recent losses. Rozenstruik fell to Curtis Blaydes at UFC 266 while Tybura lost just weeks later at UFC 267 against Alexander Volkov.

Rozenstruik has traded wins and losses since his knockout loss to Francis Ngannou in just 20 seconds at UFC 249. He’s earned wins most recently against Junior dos Santos and Augusto Sakai.

Tybura was arguably the hottest heavyweight contender before a loss to Volkov. He had won five fights in a row over the likes of Ben Rothwell, Greg Hardy, and Walt Harris.

The full card for UFC Vegas 49 has yet to be announced, but the card will be headlined by top lightweight contenders Beneil Dariush and Islam Makhachev. The winner of that matchup will more than likely be next in line for the 155-pound title.

Before losing to Blaydes, Rozenstruik had called for potential matchups with the likes of Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic at heavyweight. Both men remain sidelined and are expected to return at some point in 2022.

As for Tybura, he remains a potential dark horse in the heavyweight division. Previous wins over Stefan Struve and Andrei Arlovski helped propel him into the heavyweight rankings.

Rozenstruik is listed at No. 6 and Tybura is slated at No. 9 in the latest UFC heavyweight rankings. The winner of this matchup could get a Top-5 opponent next.
