UFC Fight Night 110 has a fight card which is most certainly mouth watering for the fans, but the real attraction of the night is going to be the fight between two of the sports hardest hitting heavyweights, namely, Derrick Lewis and Mark Hunt. This is the main event of the night when UFC fight night gets underway in Auckland, New Zealand on 10th June.

Mark Hunt is going to be fighting on home soil and Derrick Lewis seems to be unfazed by the fact that he is going to be walking right into lion’s den. In terms of recent form, Lewis at the moment is really flying and is on a six fight win streak. The most impressive part of that statistic though is the fact that five of those six wins have come via the way of knockouts. This means Lewis is certainly going to be high on confidence come June 10th. Hunt is going to be hungry to be the one to put an end to Lewis’ winning streak in front of home support. How will it all play out? Well, considering that both fighters land punches that can be devastating and fight ending, it may well come down to who lands the first blow with proper contact.

Mark Hunt is going to be well aware of the fact that Lewis is not the best when fight goes to the ground. It is no secret that grappling is the weak point in Lewis’ game and Hunt is going to do everything he can to get Lewis horizontal and onto the mat. Hunt is also a very good defender and knows how to protect himself and wear the opponent down before making his move.

Prediction – Mark Hunt to win in his home country by Knock Out.

UFC 212: MIDDLEWEIGHT PREDICTIONS: VITOR BELFORT VS. NATE MARQUARDT

Vitor Belfort (25-13) is going into his final fight at UFC 212 against Nate Marquardt (35-17-2). Belfort has had a fair share of ups and downs while Marquardt has more experience under his belt but has a similar pattern of victories and defeats. Vitor Belfort (25-13) is going into his final fight at UFC 212 against Nate Marquardt (35-17-2). Belfort has had a fair share of ups and downs while Marquardt has more experience under his belt but has a similar pattern of victories and defeats. Both are pretty aggressive and have a tendency to give a knockout and take it as well. This could be one of the best MMA fights of the season although the betting odds right now are Nate Marquardt (+145) and Vitor Belfort (-185).

Belfort’s key wins have been against  Luke Rockhold, Michael Bisping and Anthony Johnson (UFC 142). His notable losses have been to Jon Jones (UFC 152), Ronaldo Souza (UFC 198) and Gegard Mousasi (UFC 204). Despite closing 40, Belfort is still a fast fighter for his age and does retain some serious power in his kicks and punches. This is backed up with some solid defensive grappling, which is why this could be a close contest. The first cracker of a punch by elfort or Marquardt could spell victory for either.

What every punter should look out for is that Marquardt isn’t too comfortable facing Southpaws. Belfort also has an advantage when it comes to kicks so he has the ability to work from long range.

Nate Marquardt’s key wins have been against Demian Maia (UFC 103), James Te Huna (UFC Fight Night 43), and CB Dollaway (UFC on FOX 17). His key losses have been to Hector Lombard (UFC 166) ), Brad Tavares (UFC 182), and ), Thiago Santos (UFC 198). Yes, Marquardt does have the experience and is a skilled jiu-jitsu player. But patience is not one of his virtues. He won’t want to end up with battering of kicks from Belfort. That is something he is sure to remember from the past. Combinations and takedown attempts ought to be his game plan. This is because Belfort’s takedown defense is still sharp.

This could be a very close contest although this could go down as a KO in favor of Belfort.

UFC 212: BANTAMWEIGHT: MARLON MORAES VS. RAPHAEL ASSUNCAO

While all eyes may be on the main card fight between Aldo and Holloway, there are some other bouts at UFC 212 in Rio on June 3, 2017 that are sure to see some sparks fly. This includes the bantamweight bout between Marlon Moraes who makes his debut in the Octagon and Raphael Assuncao. 34 […]

34 year old Assuncao (8-1) has done well since 2011 and has lost only to T.J. Dillashaw in their UFC 200 rematch in 2011. On the other hand Moraes is a well known figure who has spent plenty of time in the World Series of Fighting where he scored a clean 11-0 and was the bantamweight champion. This match will bring him right in the firing line since Assuncao is well experienced in UFC and has a well rounded game. His average strikes per minute stands at 3.37, which may not seem too impressive but he does have the potential to outsmart Moraes on several counts despite Moraes’ leg kicks.

Moraes’ says he’s hungry and ready to bring his own Marlon Moraes style and promises to mix it up a bit.  While many debutants have thought that way they haven’t really been able to get the better of any of the UFC veterans. Pacing is going to play a major role in this bout and we could see Assuncao frustrate Moraes by slowing the fight down.

This fight could see Assuncao win via decision.

UFC 212: CLAUDIA GADELHA VS. KAROLINA KOWALKIEWICZ

UFC 212’s strawweight division bout in Rio is likely to be one of the most closely contested bouts so far this year with Karolina Kowalkiewicz (10-1) looking to reinstate herself as a strong contender. She takes on Claudia Gadelha (14-2) who has shown some great grappling and clinching skills that have brought her victory in […]

UFC 212’s strawweight division bout in Rio is likely to be one of the most closely contested bouts so far this year with Karolina Kowalkiewicz (10-1) looking to reinstate herself as a strong contender. She takes on Claudia Gadelha (14-2) who has shown some great grappling and clinching skills that have brought her victory in the past. Kowalkiewicz is likely to be a great match especially with her striking skills and strong footwork.

Kowalkiewicz and Gadelha have been taken down by Joanna Jedrzejczyk who has been their fiercest opponent. The latter lost to Jedrzejczyk twice while Kowalkiewicz was defeated on one occasion. However, are now hardened and are no mean contenders in this co-main event. Gadelha may have an edge given the fact that this will be a three round bout despite her limited cardio down the stretch as compared to Kowalkiewicz. The Polish fighter does have the skill and 10 victories to her credit.

It is important to note that Kowalkiewicz has won five of her last six fights and averages 4.56 strikes per minute and zero takedowns with a zero percent accuracy percentage. She’s coming back from a November loss to Jedrzejczyk and it will be interesting to see how much momentum she is able to gather. As long as she is aggressive with her strikes she may stand a chance. However, it must be noted that she hasn’t executed a takedown in the UFC although she has been taken down three times in the last two bouts. Gadhela is likely to get her opponent to fight from the canvas, which she is probably aware that Kowalkiewicz has been struggling with. Gadelha is one of the most smothering opponents in the MMA and may be able to pocket this one by a unanimous decision.

UFC 212: JOSE ALDO VS. MAX HOLLOWAY PREDICTION

UFC 212 kicks off in Rio de Janeiro on June 3, 2017 with Jose Aldo taking on Max Holloway in the title fight. Also on the main card is Claudia Gadelha who will slug it out with Karolina Kowalkiewicz. While the night may lack a former middleweight champion, there is much to look forward to […]

UFC 212 kicks off in Rio de Janeiro on June 3, 2017 with Jose Aldo taking on Max Holloway in the title fight. Also on the main card is Claudia Gadelha who will slug it out with Karolina Kowalkiewicz. While the night may lack a former middleweight champion, there is much to look forward to at UFC 212. There are a few notable fights in the undercard but let’s see what the main bout in the featherweight division between Aldo and Holloway may be like.

Aldo (26-2) came back to hold the title in November after Conor McGregor was stripped of the title.  However, both Aldo and Holloway (17-3) have some ugly losses to their credit. The former was defeated in 13 seconds while Holloway dropped three clean rounds to McGregor who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament. That being said, this bout is likely to be one of the best MMA contests so far in 2017.

Aldo is known for his low-risk, striking game and takedown defense that brought him victories against Chad Mendes, Urijah Faber, and Frankie Edgar, to name a few. This has made him one of the greatest fighters of all time where many have failed to build momentum against him. However, Holloway too can match up to Aldo. Following a 3-3 start to his UFC, he slipped to the bottom of the division but slowly worked his way to the top, which included 10 straight wins against a variety of opponents including former champions. Aldo may still be a favorite but there’s always the possibility of Holloway using his finesse and prowess to get the better of him. Holloway is a fighter who likes to pile on the pressure and push a high pace. He’s also got an impressive average of 5.67 significant strikes landed per minute compared to Aldo’s 3.28 per minutes. Aldo does tend to pick and choose his moves at a slower pace.

We should see a great tug of war with both fighters working to their game plan. The fighter that turns out to be more active will have the advantage,  which is why we could potentially see the Hawaiian Holloway get the better of Aldo by a unanimous decision.

UFC 211 Preliminary Bout Predictions

UFC 211: Krzysztof Jotko Vs. Dave Branch

This fight is on the preliminary card bout and it basically marks the return of Dave Branch to the UFC after a six year long hiatus. Branch was a two – division WSOF champ and is also regarded and respected as one of the best fighters even outside the octagon. However, despite all of his former glory and reputation, it cannot be denied that Branch has something to prove on upon his long awaited return. Will he be able to keep Jotko under control? We will have to wait and see. Jotko has been in immaculate form of late and really has a good chance of actually winning this bout.

UFC 211: Jason Knight Vs. Chas Skelly

Yet another fight which is being featured on the preliminary bout see’s Jason Knight take on Chas Skelly. Knight is a promising 24 – year old who recently impressed with a massive win over Alex Caceres. In fact, the fight did not even go to the judges, Knight was able to dish out a submission which left Caceres will little choice but to wave the white flag.

Chas Skelly will be a different ball game though, he has a background in wresting and so it is certainly not going to be easy to Knight to pull off one of his signature submissions. Skelly has been able to win most of his competitive fights thus far in a convincing manner, will he be able to keep that up against Knight?

UFC 211: Marco Polo Reyes Vs. James Vick

Reyes comes from The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 2 in which he was a competitor. Since that competition has come to an end, Reyes has been in good form and has put out some exceptional results. However, is he really fit enough to be in the UFC? well, the UFC is going to test exactly that come UFC fight night 211 when he goes up against James Vick (10-1).

UFC 211: Gabriel Benitez Vs. Enrique Barzola

Benitez and Barzola are going into this knowing that one of the might be handed the pink slip. There really is a lot to lose here. Neither fighter has justified their inclusion in the UFC thus far and now the loser will in all likelihood, lose it all. The question is though – who will it be?
