Urijah Faber was not happy with the UFC’s treatment of Josh Emmett.

This past Sunday, UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber was at the UFC Fight Pass Invitational 2 grappling tournament. ‘The California Kid’ previewed the upcoming matchup between Song Yadong and Cory Sandhagen.

Further, Faber claimed that Josh Emmett was not treated properly at the event.

Urijah Faber claims Josh Emmett was ghosted

Josh Emmett is coming off a hard-earned win over Calvin Kattar at UFC on ESPN 37. Emmett, who trains at Team Alpha Male, was present for the PPV event along with many other fighters as well as athletes currently on the roster. However, it appears that he did not receive the hospitality he was afforded.

“I was super disappointed and Josh was also, in the fact that he wasn’t treated that great this last week,” Faber said. “We were expecting him to be there, sidelines. He’s beaten so many guys in dominant fashion, he’s had some major injuries, and he needs that fight next for the 145 pound belt.

“He’s the guy that can match up well with [Alexander] Volkanovski, who can pack a punch that puts people out cold with one punch, he can handle volume, he’s wrestled his whole life, wrestled in college. That’s the match-up,” Faber told media at the Invitational. He added, “Josh is the guy. We were hoping to get the camera on him watching the event, and to be honest, it was kind of a mishap, but he had a really bad experience.” (h/t Cageside Press)

According to Urijah Faber, Emmett was treated like he was unwelcome at the occasion. He was exiled to the back rows and cut out from any air time on the broadcast.

“(Emmett) was put way back in the seating, not even with the rest of the guys and had to find his way by himself upstairs because they have peons working security that are getting paid minimum wage that are like, ‘Hey, you can’t come this way.’ He’s not a confrontational guy unless you’re paying him to beat someone up.

“He was really upset that there wasn’t more made of the fact that he’s the guy in line. I’m going to talk to Dana [White] about it and talk to Hunter [Campbell] and let them know that it’s really bullsh*t.”

Faber further shared Emmett’s reaction to the whole debacle as he felt like he was being treated undeservedly.

“Last night, he was like ‘F-this, I wish they’d just release me, I get no respect, blah blah blah. I think I’m going to drop down to 135 to fight Sean O’Malley, because that’s who’s getting all the credit,’” Faber said.

“Nothing, ghosted. It’s really sad and his wife was livid, he was livid and he was just like, ‘What do I have to do to get a little bit of respect?’’ Faber added. “So Dana, I hope you see this and understand that it’s Josh’s time.”

Despite their rocky relationship, Urijah Faber still thinks TJ Dillashaw deserves the next shot at the UFC bantamweight championship.

Recently, the UFC Hall Of Famer joined MMA Fighting’s Heck Of A Morning to offer his thoughts on the bantamweight division’s landscape. In regards to who will receive the next title opportunity against Aljamain Sterling, Faber explained why he thinks his former Team Alpha Male teammate should get the nod (h/t BJPenn.com)

“Man, that’s a great question,” Urijah Faber said. “Obviously, I would love to see [Dillashaw] vs. Aldo, but I would also like to see Aldo vs. ‘Aljo.’ I don’t think that T.J. needs to show that he’s not there yet, Cory Sandhagen could very easily be the champ, or a title contender himself.

“He’s an amazing fighter. They had a close fight and some people thought Sandhagen won. Right now, for relevancy, I think T.J. vs. ‘Aljo’ is the fight to make, and then Aldo gets the winner of that.

“I think a T.J. vs. Aldo fight would be huge as well, but you don’t have the hunk of metal on the line so it’s dulled down a little bit, and then Aldo lost to Petr Yan, so I think the story is still a T.J. vs. ‘Aljo’ fight, or an Aldo-’Aljo’ fight because Aldo is somebody that has taken that loss from Yan and it really lit a fire and he’s looked better than he ever has, so I’d like to see that, too.”

Dillashaw recently ended a two-year suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). In his return, the former 135-pound king topped Cory Sandhagen via split decision in July of last year. Now, Dillashaw is looking to reclaim the bantamweight title he never lost.

Of course, that would put him in a matchup against Sterling, who is currently on a seven-fight win streak. Sterling became the undisputed bantamweight champion with his unanimous decision win over Petr Yan in April.

A potential matchup between the pair would certainly be interesting. Dillashaw likely will have the advantage on the feet, while Sterling’s ground game has proven dominant over his current run.

Who do you think deserves the next nod at the UFC bantamweight title? And who are you picking in a potential fight between Dillashaw and Sterling? Sound off in the comments!

UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber recently teased a potential link-up with Nate Diaz. Faber is scheduled to debut his A1 Combat series and revealed he had been in touch with Diaz regarding co-promoting in Stockton.

UFC Fight Pass announced that Faber’s A1 Combat would stream exclusively on their platform on May 1.

Urijah Faber A1 Combat Set for UFC Fight Pass

The 46-fight veteran disclosed in an interview with The Scmho that he mapped out putting together three events in a single calendar month. The first is on May 1, followed by a doubleheader on May 28 & 29.

The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sacramento at Fire Mountain will host the first showing of the A1 Combat, with the event being accessible worldwide on UFC Fight Pass.

Faber confirmed he intended on hosting an event in Stockton, a city in California, well known due to Nick and Nate Diaz. ‘The California Kid’ also vocalized he had been in touch with Nate Diaz, expressing an interest in co-promoting the event with one another:

“Check out UFC Fight Pass A1 Combat. We’re going to be doing back-to-back-to-back shows, May 1st, May 28th, May 29th at the Hard Rock Casino and I think we’re probably going to go into Stockton after that and I’ve been talking with [Nate Diaz] a little bit, maybe doing some co-promoting with him and getting something going. So we’ve got a lot of cool stuff in the till.

In the same short interview The Schmo conducted with Faber, the featherweight veteran gave his thoughts on the current UFC featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski. Faber believes the sky is the limit for Volkanovski if he continues to improve and has the potential to become the greatest featherweight of all time:

“He’s killing it. I mean, they always go into these discussions about things. I think if you go back to Max Holloway and in their fight that could have gone either way. I’d love to see that one again. Max is pretty high up there as well, you know? Volkanovski is a consummate professional. He knows the grindstone, he’s a wrestler, he’s a sturdy mofo. I think, you know, he keeps doing his thing, he’s going to be, you know, amongst the greats.”

Urijah Faber is coming to the defense of Francis Ngannou.

There have been public disagreements between Francis Ngannou and the UFC lately. Contract negotiations have been a problem for Ngannou, and he has been vocal about wanting more from the promotion.

One man who thinks Ngannou deserves more is Urijah Faber. He spoke a bit to The Schmo about what the UFC should do with Ngannou and his contract situation.

“I think the answer is money. Pay that man the money,” Faber said. “He’s the heavyweight champion of the world. I really think that when it really comes down to the really last minute, I feel that the UFC will pony up and hopefully they reach an agreement that works because we all want to see the best fighters in the world in the UFC. I know I do.”

Ngannou has just defended the UFC heavyweight title successfully at UFC 270. Leading up to the fight, there was plenty of talk about his contract status. After Ngannou won the heavyweight title, he wanted a fight against Jon Jones. Jones also wanted the fight, but they wanted to be paid more than what was offered.

This interim title being created just months after Ngannou won created a rift between him and the UFC. Over the next few months, Ngannou was vocal about wanting to be paid more. He also wanted to be able to box if he had the opportunity. After defeating Ciryl Gane at UFC 270, Ngannou now needs time off to heal from injury.

Faber has been with the UFC for many years and knows how the system works. He is hopeful that Ngannou and the promotion can come to an agreement and keep him on the roster.

Do you agree with Urijah Faber to think the UFC needs to give Ngannou what he wants?

Urijah Faber, Cub Swanson

Urijah Faber and Cub Swanson may be on a collision course in 2022 as the two veterans look to continue their respective UFC careers.

Faber hasn’t fought in the Octagon in a little over two years since his knockout loss to Petr Yan at UFC 245. It was his second fight back in the cage after retiring in 2016.

Faber hasn’t ruled out continuing his combat sports career alongside his leadership at Team Alpha Male. One name who has been making the rounds is Swanson, who recently hinted at a potential fight with Faber in a throwback matchup.

During a recent post on his YouTube channel, Faber opined about a possible veteran vs. veteran matchup in the UFC.

“Honestly, I know he broke his hand, that might give me enough time to train,” Faber said. “He might drop down to 135 – we were supposed to fight back in 2004, with King of the Cage on short notice for a thousand bucks, I think they were gonna pay him a couple of hundred bucks and me a thousand bucks and that never happened, so Cubby, I’m honored that I’m your dream fight here in this scenario. So we might have to find out who the king of California is, I don’t know.”

Swanson most recently defeated Darren Elkins at UFC Vegas 45 and has won three of his last four bouts. His most recent defeat was to the rising featherweight contender Giga Chikadze, who finished him with a brutal body kick and ground-and-pound strikes.

Swanson first brought up the idea of facing Faber in late 2020, and conversations regarding the matchup have resurfaced in recent weeks.

It’s unclear if Swanson intends on moving down to 135 pounds at this stage in his career, but it has worked out well for fighters such as José Aldo. If Swanson wants to move down to bantamweight, Faber seems like a game opponent who could be ready to fight this year.

After Swanson defeated Elkins via TKO in the first round, he proceeded to challenge Faber to see who the ‘King of Cali’ truly is. He also hinted at the fight happening in California to add to the stakes. Swanson would make the drop down to bantamweight to take on Faber in his “dream fight”.

Faber has finally responded to Swanson’s proposal in a video he put out today.

“Directly afterward in the press conference that his dream fight would be to fight in Palm Springs against yours truly, he wants to drop to 135,” Urijah Faber said about a fight with Cub Swanson.

“Honestly, I know he broke his hand, that might give me enough time to train, he’s going to drop down to ’35. We were supposed to fight back in 2004 in King of the Cage on short notice for 1000 bucks. I think they were going to pay him a couple hundred bucks and they were going to pay me like 1000 bucks. That never happened, so Cubbie, I’m honored that I’m your dream fight here in this scenario. So we might find out who the king of California is.” (Transcribed by BJPenn.com)

Urijah Faber last fought inside the UFC back in December of 2019 against Petr Yan

He was on the wrong side of a KO via a head kick. Faber has a career record of 35-11 and was the former WEC bantamweight champion. Both Faber and Swanson are WEC alums, but never met on their road to the UFC. While both may be on the tail end of their career, a fight between the two would be very fun. After losing four fights in a row, Swanson then proceeded to win three of his last four bouts. His most recent win being a dominant KO victory over Elkins.
