MMA legend Urijah Faber may not be done fighting quite yet. The 40-year-old UFC bantamweight made an impressive comeback in 2019, beating Ricky Simon in emphatic fashion at UFC Sacramento in July. However, things didn’t go his way last time out against top contender Petr Yan. The ‘California Kid’ was dominated on route to a third round TKO loss. Faber took some time to reflect on his last fight and advise why he felt the need to take it.

Speaking to MMA Fighting, he said. “I actually had a great time in that fight. “I was really inspired by that entire process. I knew that kid was going to be very tough, which is one of the reasons why I picked that fight. Because I felt like he was going to do something big in the future, and I was hoping to steal some of his thunder, but it was a good time to go to fisticuffs with a young, a top contender.”

With his MMA legacy and financial future secure many believe we won’t see Faber compete again. However no-one can actually be sure of that, not even the man himself.

“My whole thing is this — I will
stay in phenomenal shape because that’s what I do. I’m going to stay in the gym
and in the environment, because that’s what I love to do.

“If I feel like I want to do
something and I feel froggy, I’ll jump. It may be the right opportunity, it
might be a birthday present to myself, or it may not happen at all.”

All signs point to Faber fighting again in the future, as long as the right fight comes along. Especially given the fact he has just signed a new contract with the UFC and is eyeing potential fight former teammate and bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw.

Urijah Faber has revealed he is open to fighting again despite suffering a tough knockout loss to top bantamweight contender Petr Yan at UFC 245.

The MMA veteran coming off a quick win over Ricky Simon started well in this considerable step up against Yan. However the tide started to turn in round two and Faber eventually ate a brutal head kick that forced the referee to wave off the fight.

The 40-year-old although interested in another fight appears to have admitted defeat in his pursuit for a UFC title after four failed attempts at bantamweight. Speaking to Ariel Helwani, he said. (H/T The Ariel Helwani Show)

“I’m not going to be pursuing the belt at this
moment. I’m going to be chilling with the family, staying in great shape,
staying in the gym, and it’s a ‘I could, or I couldn’t.”

“I’m not
doing a fight just to have a fight,” Faber said. “I’ll do it on my terms if I
want to do it to celebrate my birthday, or if there’s something that’s really
intriguing.”

Faber was quick
to pay tribute to his opponent but always Team Alpha Male, he bigged up his
bantamweight prospects in the process. “I mean he’s very tough, but I knew he
was tough. I felt like he’s one of the most dangerous guys, period, in the
division.”

“I knew that going in, and that’s kind of why I wanted to fight – aside from the guys on my team, Song Yadong and Cody Garbrandt, are both faster and just as powerful and a little more well-rounded, but I knew that was going to be a nasty fight. I knew I would have a chance to catch him, but he had a very good chance of catching me.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Urijah Faber is open minded about fighting again despite suffering a third round TKO loss against top bantamweight contender Petr Yan at UFC 245.

The 40-year-old MMA legend was mostly
outclassed by the Russian striker before being dropped and stopped with a vicious
head kick in the third and final round.

Speaking about his most recent fight with Ariel Helwani he said. “I knew that was going to be a nasty fight. I knew that I would have a chance to catch him. But, he had a very good chance of catching me. To be honest, I came in the first round and I feel like I left the first round feeling like I’m faster than this guy. I felt his power and I wasn’t worried about his power. (H/T Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show)

“The difference was it’s not about power and
it’s not about speed. It’s about precision and technique and he’s a master of
striking. His precision is what hurt me in the second round.”

Despite suffering a tough loss Faber insists he
had fun and is open to fighting again but it would have to be the right fight. “Oh
absolutely not. I mean I had so much fun in the build-up. I had so much fun in
the fight. If you couldn’t tell I was having a great time.”

“I was thinking about doing four fights at 40. I’m not opposed to [fighting again], but maybe I’ll do one on my 41st birthday, maybe on my 42nd birthday and call it quits. But no big plans to run through the division or anything. I’m not doing a fight just to have a fight.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)
