Dana White’s UFC 141 Video Blog #2: The One Where They Point Out That Scorekeepers Are Often Asleep at the Wheel

Dana White put out a short and sweet edition of his UFC 141 video blogs today so he could explain the UFC’s decision to award Duane Ludwig with the fastest KO in UFC history.

Previously, Todd Duffee held the distinction for his :07 routing of Tim Hague at UFC 102 back in 2009 and it was believed that Chan-Sung Jung mirrored The Duffman’s time earlier this month when he knocked out Mark Hominick at UFC 140.

On closer inspection it seems that neither fighter really holds the record as it really belongs to Ludwig, whose 2006 knockout over Jonathan Goulet at UFN 3 was previously in the books at :11.

As White points out, from the time Mario Yamasaki claps his hands to start the bout to when he touches “Bang” to indicate the fight is over is 6.06 seconds. Duffee’s actual finishing time was 7.56 seconds and “The Korean Zombie’s” was 6.26 seconds.

Translation: The top three fastest KOs in UFC history were Ludwig over Goulet (6.06 seconds), Jung over Hominick (6.26 seconds) and Duffee over Hague (7.56 seconds).

Unfortunately, the Nevada State Athletic Commission doesn’t believe that its employee made a mistake and as such it is refusing to accept the record change, even if the UFC has.

“The ruling is that it stays at 11. There’s no legal avenue to overturn it. I timed it myself with a stopwatch. It was eight seconds. Officially, it’s got to stay at 11 seconds, but unofficially, it could be at eight,” NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer told MMAjunkie on Monday. “If you use a stopwatch, from the time the fight starts to the time that Mario grabs Duane, it’s about 7.9 seconds. Why the official timekeeper had it at 11, I don’t know. But it wasn’t 11, and it wasn’t four, either.”

Although the World Boxing Council’s records list Duffee as the holder as the fastest KO in UFC history and Jung as the only person to tie the feat, Zuffa isn’t recognizing their erroneous records.

“They can say whatever they want,” Kizer said. “Sounds like they want to be the WBC for some reason.”

(“… and I paid a three-year old $14 million for this work of art.”)

In this edition of Dana’s video blog, we take a behind the scenes look at the inaugural UFC on Fox show.

Man, it must get old for Dana to meet fans every day who beg him for free tickets. Seriously, do people have no couth? And what’s up with the fan that suggests Cain looks like Shrek and should call himself “The Shrexican?” What’s wrong with people?

Check out the vid after the jump.

It’s crazy that a promotion that was on the brink of bankruptcy six years ago is now so popular that a cancer patient’s dying “Make a Wish” request is to meet its president. How many requests do you think David Stern or Roger Goodell get? That says something about how accessible he is to the fans.

How hilarious is Bruce Buffer pushing his “The Ring” video on anyone who will listen? We get the feeling he might have some other videos and photos on his phone that he *casually* shows people. Knowamsayin’ ?

Perhaps the most interesting moment comes after the Velasquez-dos Santos fight when Cain’s boxing coach gives him shit for waiting for dos Santos to attack rather than going after him offensively. The dude doesn’t mince words and Cain takes full responsibility for the error in the post-fight presser.

(“Viacom paid WHAT for Bellator?” I got PRIDE, WEC, Strikeforce and Chandella for less than that.”)

Dana White put out an unprecedented second video blog today for the first time in a long time. In this instalment of his UFC 137 video diary, White admires the venue for the pre-fight press conference, pokes fun at Nick Diaz for being Nick Diaz and gives out a bunch of free tickets to whoever asks.

A word of advice: If you’re ever needing tickets to a certain event, stand in line at the weigh-ins or press conference and have a friend point a camera at Dana while you shamelessly beg the UFC president for some freebies. Works every time.

Of note is Diaz’s revelation that they brought him to the presser an hour early to make sure he was there. He missed his flight from Stockton this week and the UFC had to rebook, so it looks like they aren’t taking any chances. Reed Harris has been appointed as Nick’s official babysitter so there’s little or no chance that he’s going to sleep through his fight Saturday night.

Jon Fitch Keeping Active While Recovering From Shoulder Surgery

Not one to sit idly by while nursing an injury, UFC Welterweight Jon Fitch is working other aspects of his game while his shoulder heals up. Perhaps his love affair with fruits and vegetables is rockier than we’d been led to believe?

Watching the most recent edition of Dana White’s video blog series, one thing becomes abundantly clear: the dude is fucking rich.

When he isn’t sitting courtside in L.A. at the end of the Celtics bench with his kids during an NBA game, The Baldfather is throwing around cash like it’s confetti on things like souping up his SUVs with Corvette engines.

Ah, to be a multi-millionaire…

I still pick up change when I find it on the street.

Big DW’s latest video blog finds him doing no shortage of totally weird shit leading up to UFC 121 this Saturday. First, we get a closer look at White stumping for senate majority leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) alongside – even weirder – Chuck Liddell at a rally in Reno. A bit later, Our Fearless Leader and a few of his faithful employees get dressed up like an R&B group out to shoot the cover of their Christmas album as part of a photo-op for Playboy. (Ed. Note: CagePotato will not, we repeat not, be publishing any poor quality digital stills of this spread. We’re still hoping to rollover at least a few of our weekend minutes.)

During the rallies, White makes sure to point out to the live crowd that he’s “not very political or politically correct” (No, really?) and that he’s just there to spread the word about the importance of voting. After all, there’s nothing more American than blindly appealing to all people to “get out there and vote.” This despite the cruel reality that people who are “not very political” and/or can’t be trusted to look after their own best interests actually shouldn’t vote. That’s how people like this win elections. To his credit, Dana advises us to “do our homework” before we take to the polls, so at least his heart is in the right place. Oddly, there is no footage here of “The Iceman” addressing the political rallies. His speeches much have been too long and too nuanced to edit neatly into a 12 minute blog.
