Unbeaten in WEC at 5-0, Ben “Smooth” Henderson (fighting out of Glendale, Ariz.) has become one of the most dominant champions in company history. With victories over Anthony Njokuani, Shane Roller, Jamie Varner and Donald Cerrone (twice), the 26-year-old Henderson (12-1) has his sights set on beating the rising star Pettis on Dec. 16. Knowing that he’ll be defending the title on his home turf only further motivates the champion.

“I’m very excited to fight in front of my friends and family in Glendale,” Henderson said. “Pettis brings high-energy and good skill set to the table. He’s dynamic and tough, and he showed a lot of heart and grit by tapping out Shane Roller with a triangle in his last fight. If he wants it, let’s find out who the better man is on Dec. 16.”

Known for his fiery striking and fluid jiu jitsu skills, Anthony Pettis (fighting out of Milwaukee, Wisc.) has taken the sport by storm since debuting in WEC last June. With four victories in the organization, including a submission win over Shane Roller in Aug., “Showtime” has become one of the most feared lightweights in the world. Pettis (12-1), who was featured on MTV’s hit show “World of Jenks” this month, is ready to capture his first world title and realize a lifelong dream.

“I love the matchup,” Pettis said. “Ben Henderson is at the top of the division and that’s where I want to be. He’s a well-rounded fighter who brings it every time. Neither of us quit so it’s going to be an interesting fight. I’m going to be ready for everything and anything.”

The most dynamic striker in 135-pound history returns for his second title defense on Dec. 16. Tucson-born Dominick Cruz (fighting out of San Diego, Calif.), who has never lost a fight in the bantamweight division, locks horns with Scott Jorgensen in Arizona. The 25-year-old known for his fast feet and crisp striking plans on being ready for all that his wrestling-savvy opponent offers this December.

“He’s a strong, powerful guy with great wrestling ability,” Cruz, 16-1, said. “But his winning streak means nothing to me because I’m on a streak myself. He’s got a different matchup with me and I’m excited to put an end to his streak. I’ve got nothing but respect for the guy, he’s a great fighter, but I’m going to be better that night.”

With five straight victories, perhaps no fighter has more momentum than Scott Jorgensen (fighting out of Boise, Idaho). After defeating rugged Englishman Brad Pickett in a Fight of the Year candidate in Aug., the 27-year-old Boise State University wrestling standout finally cemented his place as number one contender in the bantamweight division. Now Jorgensen (11-3) has a chance to wear WEC gold, an opportunity he plans to take full advantage of come Dec. 16.

“I’m going to beat him down for 25 minutes,” Jorgensen said. “I want to fight for five rounds because I’m a grinder, that’s what I do. That’s a scary thing for Dominick to face. He’s never had an opponent that is built like me and has the mindset that I’ve got. He’s in for a rude awakening when he gets in that cage with me. He’s never felt the pressure that I’m going to bring.”

Remaining bouts for WEC: Henderson vs. Pettis will be announced at a later date. For more information, visit www.wec.tv. Follow WEC at http://twitter.com/WEConVERSUS.

Jason Reinhardt is out of his fight against prized WEC signee Tiequan Zhang and will be replaced by Pablo Garza on Thursday’s WEC 51 card.

The WEC made the announcement via Twitter on Monday morning, and MMA Fighting has confirmed with sources close to Reinhardt that a failed eye exam will keep him from making his WEC debut.

Garza (7-0), Reinhardt’s replacement, was one of 28 contestants vying for a spot in the house on the current Season 12 of “The Ultimate Fighter.” But he lost his preliminary fight to Michael Johnson, who went on to become coach Georges St-Pierre’s top pick in the team selection, which aired last week.

After suffering only his second loss in his World Extreme Cagefighting debut, the World has been turned upside down for Korean featherweight Jung Chan-Sung (10-2).

Jung battled Leonard Garcia on televisions across North America in a Spike TV “Prelim” special leading up to WEC’s first ever pay-per-view event, WEC 48: Aldo vs. Faber. In a see-saw battle that launched the name the “Korean Zombie” across the internet, Jung lost a split decision to Garcia but both men walked away with the “Fight of the Night” honor.

Now Jung is set to face George Roop this coming Thursday in Broomfield, Colorado at WEC 51 and talked recently about his upcoming fight, as well as the popularity of the “Korean Zombie” t-shirts.

Q: The Korean Zombie t-shirts have become very popular. Has the success of the shirts surprised you?
Jung: To be honest with you, I don’t think any of us expected the shirt to do as well as it did! I think we have to thank Dana (White) for a lot of that. After he wore it on TV, the sales really skyrocketed.

Q: What do you think when you see a stranger wearing a Korean Zombie t-shirt?
Jung: I saw a lot of people in Zombie t’s in Vegas at the UFC Fan Expo. It was strange at first; sometimes people would be in the elevator with us and part of my team would have their Zombie shirts on and the fans would start talking with us not even realizing who I was! One time some drunk guy in a bar actually refused to believe that I was The Korean Zombie despite the fact that all these other people were telling him it was true….

Q: What are your impressions of your next opponent, George Roop? What do you know about him as a fighter (his tendencies and his fighting style)?
Jung: I know he’s tall and that’s going to present problems for anyone in the featherweight division. He’s got solid stand-up and ground skills. His brains will soon be eaten.

Q: What must you do to beat him?
Jung: Knocking someone out always works.

Q: Do you think Roop will choose to stand and strike with you?
Jung: I doubt it, but it doesn’t matter to me. If I have to beat him with my jiu-jitsu, that’s fine, too. If he does want to stand with me, I’m sure it’ll be a good show while it lasts…

Q: Do you have a prediction for your fight against George Roop?
Jung: If Roop comes at me, I predict a Zombie victory in the first round. If he tries to strike with me, I predict an even faster Zombie victory in the first round.

(‘Razor’ is looking to get back to the top, no matter what it takes.)

Three years ago “Razor” Rob McCullough was on top of the world. The WEC champion was riding a nine-fight winning streak of which eight were finishes and there seemed to be no end to his run.

Then it happened.

In the third round of his second title defense, it seemed like McCullough was close to finishing Jamie Varner. Before he could go for the kill, Varner spit out his mouthgard and got a timeout to rinse it off, which allowed him to recover. Soon after, “The Worm” caught “Razor” with a handful of punches and won via TKO.

Four fights later McCullough was fired from the WEC without much explanation, in spite of the fact that he split them 2-2.

Since being unceremoniously dropped by the promotion, Razor Rob has gone 2-0 under the Tachi Palace Fights banner and most recently defeated UFC veteran Corey Hill last weekend by unanimous decision.

According to the former WEC lightweight champ, who is enjoying life sober, married and as a father of a six-month-old son, says he’s doing what he has to do to get back on the roster of a major organization, which he reveals is likely to happen soon and he says he’ll fight anyone who wants to fight him.

We caught up with Razor this week and spoke candidly and at length about a variety of topics including his childhood, his life, his family, his new goals as a fighter and the business of MMA.

I’ll warn you that the interview is very lengthy, but it’s worth the read if you have time as it reveals a personal, thoughtful and mature side of McCullough that fans rarely get a glimpse of in his pre-fight interviews.

Sept. 30 will serve as a milestone date in WEC history as the organization welcomes its first fighter from mainland China, Tiequan Zhang (fighting out of Beijing, China). Recognized for his versatility and impressive submission game, the unbeaten 32-year-old (16-0) meets battle-tested veteran Jason Reinhardt (fighting out of Decatur, Ill.) in an exciting lightweight showdown. Reinhardt (20-1), a UFC veteran who has been competing professionally since 2000, believes his ability to finish fights will propel him to victory at the 1STBANK Center.

Former featherweight champion Mike Brown (fighting out of Coconut Creek, Fla.) begins his trek back to the world title in Colorado when he takes on seasoned wrestler Cole Province (fighting out of Edmond, Okla.). A product of American Top Team, the 34-year-old Brown (23-6) ruled the 145-pound division for over a year thanks to his heavy hands and versatile ground game. He’ll look to return to form when he meets Province later this month. Recognized for his strong wrestling and conditioning, Province (6-1, 1 NC) believes his first win in WEC will come at Brown’s expense. The 29-year-old expects to spark a title run of his own by upending the former champion on Sept. 30.

The long-awaited clash between lightweights Ed Ratcliff (fighting out of San Diego, Calif.) and Chris Horodecki (fighting out of London, Ontario, Canada) erupts in Broomfield this Fall and is sure to be a war between two of the division’s best strikers. A speedy Taekwondo artist who trains alongside WEC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz in San Diego, the 27-year-old Ratcliff (7-2) hopes to cement his contender status with a win over his Canadian counterpart. Hungry to secure his own place among the lightweight elite, the 22-year-old Horodecki (14-2) looks to earn his second straight victory inside the WEC cage. The Canadian star defeated Danny Downes by submission in his last fight in June.

Hometown favorite Tyler Toner (fighting out of Denver, Colo.) will display his high-level striking in his own backyard when he takes on Muay Thai ace Diego Nunes (fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) in an intriguing featherweight matchup. After knocking out previously-unbeaten Brandon Visher in his WEC debut in April, the 27-year-old Toner (11-1, 1 NC) plans to defend his turf when he meets Nunes. The task will be easier said than done though. Nunes (14-1) is coming off the biggest win of his career over Raphael Assuncao in June and is motivated as ever to climb the featherweight ladder.

A dark horse for Fight of the Night pits Chad George (fighting out of Los Angeles, Calif.) against Antonio Banuelos (fighting out of Arroyo Grande, Calif.) in bantamweight action. Respected for his fluid jiu jitsu skills and supreme cardio, George (11-5) is nicknamed “The Savage” for a reason. He hopes to earn his second win in the WEC over Banuelos by utilizing his relentless pace. Banuelos (18-6), who trains alongside UFC legend Chuck Liddell, is no stranger to high-intensity bouts and plans to use his standout wrestling and precise striking to best George in Broomfield.

Bantamweight Demetrious Johnson (fighting out of Parkland, Wash.) earned the respect of many in his WEC debut in April against contender Brad Pickett. Using his speed and strength, the 24-year-old went toe-to-toe with one of the division’s best. Now, the 10-1 fighter has his sights set on another impressive performance when he meets newcomer Nick Pace (fighting out of New York City, N.Y.). Equally driven to make a solid impression in front of the WEC faithful, the 5-0 Pace is ready for everything his opponent will throw at him. The Team Tiger Schulmann product expects a fast-paced bout when he collides with “Mighty Mouse” on Sept. 30.
