Andrei Arlovski
The World Series of Fighting has it’s main event for the promotion’s second show as former UFC champ Andrei ‘The Pit Bull’ Arlovski (19-9, 1NC) takes on Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson (14-4) in what is expected to be a heavyweight bout.
The news comes on the heels of WSOF’s new three-year television deal with NBC Sports Network announced earlier today.
Arlovski broadcast the news to fans on Twitter late this afternoon (@AndreiArlovski).
The two former UFC fighters will meet on March 23, 2013 at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey in the main event of WSOF 2 which will presumably air on NBC Sports.
Both fighters appeared on the first WSOF event with Arlovski headlining in a heavyweight matchup with Devin Cole, while Johnson was featured in the co-main event fighting at light heavyweight versus D.J. Linderman.
Arlovski picked up a first round TKO victory over Cole and then went on to fight in Russia in December, earning a unanimous decision against opponent Mike Hayes at a Fight Nights event. ‘The Pit Bull’ is 4-0 with 1 “No Contest” over his last five matches, erasing a streak of four straight losses competing under the Strikeforce and Affliction banners.
Unlike his opponent, Johnson’s last fight was for the WSOF against Linderman which saw ‘Rumble’ win via first round knockout. It was the fourth straight victory for Johnson and third straight competing at light heavyweight. He is 6-1 over his last seven matches which includes three bouts inside the Octagon, two were welterweight bouts and one 197-lbs catchweight loss to Vitor Belfort.
