Invicta FC 25 is all set to go down on August 31st at the Tachi Palace Casino in Lemoore, California. The fight card is certainly one to look forward to as well, and the title fight will showcase Yana Kunitskaya taking on Raquel Pa’aluhi for the bantamweight title in the main event. Other fights on the fight card which are certainly worth tuning into are Livia Renata Souza vs Jodie Esquibel who will be vying it out for the straw-weight title, Alexa Connersvs Katharina Lehner in the bantam weight division, Alyse Anderson vs Shino Van Hoose in the atom-weight division, Kelly McGill – Velasco vs Amberlynn Orr in the bantamweight division, Yaya Rincon vs Stephanie Egger also in the bantamweight division, Cheri Muraskivs Tracy Cortez is the only fight in the flyweight division and Ashley Medina vs. Jillian DeCoursey will see tow debutantes in the atom-weight division.

Coming to the main fight of the night, Kunitskaya (9 – 3 – 1) is coming into this fight off the heels of repeat fight against Evinger in which Evinger beat Kunitskaya. In the original fight, Kunitskaya actually clinched victory, but the result was later overturned and a rematch was ordered because of a seemingly controversial decision by the referee.

On the other hand, Pa’aluhi is coming into the bout with pretty good momentum considering that she has been able to walk away victorious four times in her last five fights. Her most recent fight was especially confidence invoking given that she was able to finish off her opponent with a deadly rear – naked choke during Invicta 21. Max Holloway was able to clinch the first MMA title for Waianae, Hawaii and Pa’aluhi will be looking to double that number with a title of her own.

However, despite her shaky form, we have reason to believe that it is still Kunitskaya’s fight to lose. A closer look at the statistics compared between the two fighters will tell you that Kunitskaya is better at fending off submissions, finishes off fights much quicker, packs a heavier punch, has a slight height advantage and all this can cumulatively prove too much for Pa’aluhi to handle.

We will go with a prediction of Kunitskaya to win by decision.

We have a date, location, and oh yeah, two championship bouts for Invicta FC’s 25th event. Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp recently appeared on The MMA Hour and revealed that the MMA’s premier all women’s organization will hold Invicta FC 25 on Thursday, August 31st at the Tachi Palace in Lemoore, California. The card will stream live on UFC Fight Pass.

The event will be headlined by top bantamweight contenders Yana Kunitskaya and Raquel Pa’aluhi to crown the new bantamweight champion. The title was recently vacated by longtime champion Tonya Evinger, who will fight Cris Cyborg in a key bout at UFC 214 later this month.

This upcoming event will mark the third consecutive title fight for Kunitskaya (9-3, 1 NC). Her win over Evinger in 2016 was overturned to a no contest due to a controversial call by referee Mike England. She then went on to lose the rematch against Evinger after being caught in a second-round rear-naked choke. On the flip side, Pa’aluhi (6-5), who has won three of her four contests under the Invicta FC umbrella, is coming off a first-round submission over Pannie Kianzad.

In the co-main event, former strawweight champion Livia Renata Souza and veteran Jodie Esquibel will meet for the 115-pound title vacated by UFC fighter Angela Hill.

Souza (10-1) is seeking to reclaim the strawweight strap after she lost in a split decision against Hill last summer. She is coming off a knockout win over Ayaka Hamasaki in under two minutes at Invicta FC 22 this past March. On the flip side, Esquibel (6-2) has won four of her six Invicta FC appearances including a recent split decision over DeAnna Bennett.

Tonya Evinger Appeals Invicta Title Loss with Missouri’s Athletic Commission

Less than two weeks ago at Invicta FC 20, Tonya Evinger was defending her Invicta Bantamweight Championship when challenger  Yana Kunitskaya caught her in an armbar from guard. In attempting to defend the submission, Evinger stepped on Kunitskaya’s face as she got up, only for referee Mike England to ask her to move because he said it was an illegal technique — it’s not, and she’s done it before in Invicta against Sarah D’Alelio. In the confusion, Kunitskaya finished the armbar and Evinger tapped out.

On Wednesday, Evinger told Marc Raimondi at MMAFighting that she’s officially appealed the result with the Missouri Office of Athletics at the he Missouri Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration (DIFP). The commission couldn’t confirm it to Raimondi because they don’t comment on appeals until they’re complete.

While this type of appeal usually seems like a long shot, Missouri did overturn a past Invicta bantamweight fight’s result due to referee error. At Invicta FC 5 in April of 2013, Miriam Nakamoto initially beat Jessamyn Duke by TKO with a series of knees from the clinch. Upon replay, it was clear that Duke was a downed opponent when the last knee was thrown and the result changed to a no contest. In that case, however, referee John McCarthy copped to his mistake, and it’s not yet known if England will do the same.
