Bellator champion Yaroslav Amosov continues to fight in Ukraine during the war in Europe.

The welterweight champion was set to fight against Michael Page next month for his first title defense. However, that was put behind the Ukrainian-born fighter in the heat of the European conflict.

Amosov has put his title defense on hold to fight for his home country. He joined up with his wife and son and friends and family, to protect them and help defend against the invasion.

Earlier in the month, he recovered his championship belt in the wreckage of the bombings. And recently Amosov has revealed some dark details of his experience, so far.

“Our enemies came to Ukraine with weapons and made chaos,” Amosov said. “Me and my friends decided to help defend our country, our city, and we joined the territorial defense of our city Irpin. Russian soldiers bombed houses, killed civilians, raped women. They killed people in cars. People just wanted to leave the occupied territory. They just wanted to live. Many people were sitting in basements for more than a month. When Irpin was liberated, they were given a piece of bread. They wept and gave thanks. They sat without water, without light. They were afraid that someone would come in, and they would be shot.”

“Dynamo” has made it clear that until the war is over, he will remain in Ukraine. And according to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, there is much to do before they will see the end.

But despite the conflict in Europe gaining momentum, Amosov is hopeful for a better future when Ukraine will be peaceful once again.

“They made a fight for the interim title. It doesn’t matter to me. I will wait for the war to end and defend my title. I hope we will be able to return to our homes homes, (and) there will be peace on our land. The sun will shine, we will smile, and everything will be fine.” (h/t MMA Junkie)

Currently, Amosov is undefeated in his 26 fights as a professional fighter. He gained the Bellator welterweight championship in 2019 and will have his first title defense whenever he returns.

Bellator Welterweight Champion Yaroslav Amosov has opted to stay in his home country, Ukraine amidst the ongoing Russian invasion.

Amosov earned the Bellator welterweight title in defeating Douglas Lima at Bellator 260. He’s set to face Michael “Venom” Page on the upcoming Bellator London card on May 13.

Amosov, a native of Kyiv, has been outspoken regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin’s military actions against Ukraine. After months of tension along the Ukraine-Russia border, Russia opted to invade Ukraine and targeting major cities around the country.

In a recent post on his Instagram page, Amosov updated his fans on the situation in Ukraine and his message to his fellow countrymen.

“Greetings, probably, many will think that I ran away, I’m hiding or something like that, but this is not so,” Amosov said. “I took my family to the safe zone. Now I have returned and will defend this country as best I can, with what I can.

“I love this country, our own. Russia came to our house and started a war here, many people are dying – innocents, women and children. We have to defend this country, and we succeed, friends. And we will succeed, because the truth is behind us.

“I would like to address those who subscribed to me from Russia. What is shown to you on TV, you may not watch – this is not true. If I were you, I wouldn’t even watch your news. We are in a real war. I cannot understand those people who do not believe that Russian troops entered Ukraine. I see it with my own eyes, I hear it. Terrible things are happening here. We can do this.” (h/t MMA Junkie)

Amosov isn’t the only notable combat sports star to join forces with the Ukrainian military. Former boxing champions Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko recently announced that they are willing to fight against the Russian attack.

Many MMA fighters have addressed the current situation in Ukraine, including non-Ukrainians. Amosov will look to fight and represent his home country later this year.

Bellator London: Amosov vs. Page

After 17 fights in the promotion, England’s Michael “Venom” Page is finally set for his first world title fight in Bellator.

On social media today, Bellator Europe announced that Page will challenge for Yaroslav Amosov’s welterweight gold in the main event of Bellator London. The promotion’s trip across the Atlantic is set for Friday, May 13, and will see fights go down from inside The SSE Arena, Wembley.

Page boasts an impressive 20-1 record in professional MMA and has long been a top contender in Bellator’s 170-pound weight class. Since his one and only defeat, a knockout loss to former three-time titleholder Douglas Lima in 2019, MVP has been on a tear.

In his last six fights, Page has gone 6-0, recorded two first-round knockouts, and avenged his setback against Lima. In the main event of Bellator 267 last October, an event that represented the promotion’s return to the UK for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, “Venom” secured a split decision triumph over “The Phenom”. He’ll hope to replicate that London success when he returns to his country’s capital on May 13.

In his way of championship glory will be Amosov, an unbeaten Ukrainian who reached the top of the welterweight mountain after seven fights in Bellator. After victories over the likes of David Rickles, Ed Ruth, and Logan Storey, “Dynamo” had his chance to fight for gold at Bellator 260 last June. In a mightily impressive performance, Amosov dethroned Lima after securing a unanimous decision win.

Across his unblemished 26-0 record, Amosov has recorded 10 submission and nine knockouts. But despite his finishing record, the 28-year-old has gone the distance in three of his last four appearances. Page will be looking to save the judges some work by adding a 13th knockout to his own résumé when he enters the cage with Amosov.

While Page had initially called for a trilogy clash with Lima over a title shot, the Englishman certainly won’t be disappointed to have his chance to further cement his legacy as one of Bellator’s greats.

Who do you think will leave Bellator London with the welterweight title, Yaroslav Amosov or Michael Page?

Michael Page

Michael Page will be making his first attempt to secure Bellator Gold on his home soil.

Bellator president Scott Coker has announced the promotion is targeting the matchup for the second quarter of 2022, with the newly crowned champion set for his first title defence to take place in the United Kingdom.

“We are in the process of putting that fight together now with him and MVP to fight in London at some point early next year.”

Michael Page was and still is destined for greatness in Bellator. He suffered his first loss at the hands of Douglas Lima in 2019 when the Brazilian caught him with an uppercut. Since then, Page has gone on to collect a 6-fight winning streak, 4 of those coming via stoppage. Page would also go on to exact his revenge when he edged out Douglas Lima at Bellator 267 via decision and propel himself into a title fight opportunity.

Michael Page Still Has Unfinished Business with Douglas Lima

Although it wasn’t the title Michael Page was interested in at first. Scott Coker revealed how the Englishmen wanted to complete his trilogy with Douglas Lima before taking that next step, however, he was able to convince him to do otherwise.

“I know MVP was kinda back-and-forth, do I want to fight Lima again, do I want to fight Amosov and then we said Hey, just go think about it,” Coker told MMA Junkie. “Our opinion as a company is you want to take the next step. You want to go fight for the belt now. This is your time. If you don’t do it now, when are you gonna do it? and then you can come back and fight Lima again in the future. So to me, it’s the right fight to put together. I think it’ll happen in the second quarter. It will be in London and it will be a massive fight over there because he’s such a big star.

“Believe me, a lot of people are saying well Amosov is so good and he’s – yeah he is that good and that’s why his record is undefeated. But MVP has a very unique style and he’s very hard to hit, to catch and it’s gonna be interesting to see how Amosov handles that because he’s fighting like a very awkward, karate style combatant and it’s not like your normal MMA fighter that’s just very straight forward, maybe a little bit more linear. He’s doing a lot of crazy stuff and that’s why people love him, but that fight will happen at some point in 2022 for sure.”

Bellator is currently working to put flashy welterweight Michael “Venom” Page against champion Yaroslav Amosov for a card in London, England.

Bellator President Scott Coker revealed the plans in a recent interview with MMA Junkie. He mentioned he hopes to make the fight for early 2022, although an exact date hasn’t been worked out yet.

Coker said that Page was hesitant for a title fight, but eventually decided that he wanted the title fight. Page had publicly noted before that he preferred to face Douglas Lima – a fighter he just beat – in a trilogy bout.

“I know MVP was kinda back-and-forth, ‘do I want to fight Lima again, do I want to fight Amosov’ and then we said hey, just go think about it,” Coker said. “Our opinion as a company is you want to take the next step. Page Getting Title Fight Following Important Win

Michael Venom Page

Page is being put in a title fight position for the first time in his career. He is also coming off arguably the biggest win of his career thus far.

Page is being put in the title fight after avenging the sole pro loss in his career. He recently defeated former champ Lima, beating him via split decision.

The potential fight could be Amosov’s first fight as the Bellator Welterweight Champion. He earned the belt in June, going five rounds against Lima for a decision win. The victory continued his flawless pro career that includes 26 wins as a whole and seven victories in Bellator.

Who would you pick in a fight between Yaroslav Amosov and Michael “Venom” Page?
