The month of July already looks like a stacked month for fights, but the UFC didn’t feel it was enough.
The UFC released on their Twitter page the addition of three fights in the month of July, including the much-anticipated UFC debut of Strikeforce welterweight champ, Tarec Saffiedine.
“3 new July fights! Del Rosario/Dave Herman at UFC 162; Saffiedine/Lawler and Danny Castillo/Bobby Green at @UFCONFOX Seattle.”
Shane del Rosario became the first American to win the WBC Muay Thai Heavyweight Title but is riding a two-fight losing streak including a brutal KO loss to fellow striker Pat Berry last December. Dave Herman will attempt to erase a terrible UFC career thus far that’s seen the once heralded prospect manage a meager 1-3 record.
Herman will also be returning from a suspension he was handed due to testing positive for marijuana following his recent loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira last October.
Danny Castillo has had a solid run thus far in the UFC since crossing over from the WEC and will look to continue the momentum after defeating top European prospect Paul Sass in February. His opponent, Bobby Green, is also looking to carry some momentum after he tapped out Jacob Volkmann (and earned a lot of fans praise for defeating Volkmann) in his UFC debut.
Undoubtedly the biggest name in this announcement is that of Saffiedine. The final Strikeforce welterweight champ will finally make his UFC debut against a fellow Strikeforce veteran, Robbie Lawler.
Saffiedine is riding a four-fight winning streak that includes his impressive showing against Nate Marquardt in Strikeforce’s final event. Lawler also impressed in his last outing as he dropped to welterweight and TKO’ed Josh Koscheck in the first round.
