On Aug. 17, the UFC will kick off its UFC on Fox Sports 1 series from Boston, Mass. From there, the series will make stops in Indianapolis and Brazil before landing in Manchester, England, on Oct. 26.
As is customary when the UFC travels outside the borders of the United States, the card will be headlined by a fighter native to the host country. In the case of UFC on Fox Sports 1 Manchester, that honor will go to Michael Bisping, who will take on Mark Munoz.
But aside from Bisping versus Munoz, the event is barren, with no supporting cast.
The card will be rounded out between now and Oct. 26, and if English star Ross Pearson gets his way, he’ll be part of the first matchup added to the roster.
Pearson recently took to Twitter to lobby for a spot on the UFC on Fox Sports 1 Manchester card, requesting a date with Japanese power puncher Takanori Gomi:
Bisping vs Munoz main event at M.E.N i would love Pearson vs Gomi co-main what u think?
— Ross Pearson (@RossTheRealDeal) July 13, 2013
In a bout with Gomi, Pearson would be looking to secure a third consecutive victory. After a brief run at featherweight, the former Ultimate Fighter winner returned to 155 in 2012, defeating George Sotiropoulos and Ryan Couture—both by knockout.
Gomi is a fighter who knows a little something about knocking people out, as evidenced by his 13 career knockout wins. “The Fireball Kid” recently saw a two-fight win streak snapped by a controversial split-decision loss to Diego Sanchez.
The matchup is one that seems to make sense, and the stylistic pairing screams action.
Both Pearson and Gomi have demonstrated a penchant for mixing it up on the feet, and with the added buzz of a hometown crowd backing Pearson, this bout would fit nicely onto the UFC on Fox Sports 1 Manchester card.
We’ll just have to wait and see if the UFC takes notice of Pearson’s request in the coming weeks.
