Ronda Rousey‘s acting career may be shifting into high gear, as she is currently in negotiations to land a role in Fast and Furious 7, which begins shooting this fall.
According to a report from Justin Kroll of Variety, the UFC women’s bantamweight champion just started a discussion with the film’s producers, possibly joining stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson. The latest installment of the blockbuster series is expected to start shooting this fall in Atlanta for a 2014 release.
Variety states that if Rousey lands the role, she will be shooting the movie back-to-back with The Expendables 3, which she is set to begin filming later this month in Bulgaria.
Rousey has already stated that because she’s fighting on Dec. 28 at UFC 168 against Miesha Tate, she would pick up and move part of her training camp near the Expendables filming, and the same holds for Fast and Furious 7.
According to the report, Rousey needs about 45 days of uninterrupted training to prepare for the bout with Tate, so that would put her deadline to finish filming sometime in November.
If Rousey lands the spot in the popular Universal Studios franchise, she would likely take on a similar role to that which former Elite XC and Strikeforce fighter Gina Carano played in Fast and Furious 6.
Fast and Furious 6 raked in more than $770 million worldwide. The seventh film is expected to pull in equal numbers with the franchise adding English action star Jason Statham as the new villain.
Rousey took an interest in Hollywood after bursting onto the scene in 2012 as the top women’s fighter in MMA. She signed on with William Morris Endeavor earlier this year for her upcoming film career, and the talent agency’s been busy landing her acting spots since.
The report also stresses that negotiations have only just gotten underway, but with a chance to star in a major action vehicle like the Fast series, it’s hard to imagine Rousey not taking the role unless her UFC bosses object.
UFC president Dana White recently said that Rousey has been up front with him about any possible film roles to make sure it wouldn’t interfere with her fighting career.
It’s unclear if this project was already cleared before the story leaked, but regardless, the cat is out of the bag now.
