Ronda Rousey: Cyborg ‘Not Really Impressing Anyone Too Much’

In men’s MMA, there are several dream fights fans would love to see one day. Jon Jones vs. Anderson Silva and Anderson Silva vs. Georges St-Pierre are the two that are bandied about most often. In women’s MMA, there’s really only one bout fans are clamoring for: Ronda Rousey vs. Cristiane Justino, or more simply, Cris Cyborg.

Rousey (7-0) is the current reigning UFC women’s bantamweight champion. Cyborg (12-1-0-1) won the inaugural Invicta FC Featherweight title on July 13 of this year when she defeated former Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion Marloes Coenen.

Rousey has said she will face Cyborg, but only if the fight is at the 135-pound limit.

More specifically, Rousey told TSN’s The MMA Report with John Pollock (h/t MMA Fighting’s Mike Chiappetta) in 2012, “She (Cyborg) can either do the drugs and fight me at 135 and have the drugs be just as much a detriment as a help to her during the weight cut, or she can cut out all the doping and make the weight easily.”

Cyborg was popped for the steroid stanozolol following her Dec. 17, 2011 Strikeforce featherweight title defense. The positive drug test resulted in a one-year suspension for Santos.

When Cyborg returned to fighting, it was with Invicta.

During the UFC’s recent world tour, Rousey told Rick J. Lee she saw some holes in Cyborg’s game and then used good old MMA math to dismiss Cyborg’s win over Coenen, saying it took her longer to defeat Coenen than it did for Miesha Tate, a fighter whom Rousey submitted in Round 1, to defeat Coenen.

For those keeping track at home, Cyborg stopped Coenen at 4:02 of the fourth round, while Tate’s win came at the 3:03 mark of Round 4.

Much like the aforementioned men’s superfights, it doesn’t appear we will ever get to see Rousey versus Cyborg.
