There are few in the sport of MMA that can match Michael Bisping when it comes to pre-fight trash talk.
The ability to hype a fight and verbally rip down an opponent is like an art form to Bisping, and he’s a Picasso at his profession.
Many past opponents have come back at Bisping with over-the-top interviews, video blogs and any number of responses on Twitter, but rarely do they ever get the best of the former Ultimate Fighter winner.
For his next fight, Bisping takes on former NCAA champion Mark Munoz, who is widely regarded as one of the nicest and friendliest guys in the sport. Munoz has made his reputation inside the cage, and rarely has a bad word to say about anybody outside of it.
In a recent interview, Munoz fired off a warning shot at his opponent saying that “Bisping has pillows for fists,” not fearing the knockout when they face off in October in Manchester England.
Bisping just has a laugh when hearing Munoz’s trash talk, and his response is akin to patting him on the head and saying “nice try.” In the trash talking game in MMA, the showdown between Bisping and Munoz might be most similar to the rap rivalry between Eminem and Benzino—pretty one-sided.
“Munoz went out and said I have pillow fists, which by the way is really, really unoriginal cause it gets thrown around on the internet quite a bit. So good one Munoz, top marks there,” Bisping said. “If that’s the best trash talk you’ve got, maybe we’ll call it a day and we’ll say victory to me.”
Bisping goes on to say that Munoz is known for being a nice guy, and he should just stick to that routine and leave trash talking up to the big boys.
Munoz may be one of the best middleweights in the world, but according to Bisping, the verbal back and forth is a war he won’t win.
“He’s the nicest guy you could ever meet,” Bisping said. “He says he’s going to put me to sleep. His best chance of putting me to sleep is by talking to me for longer than five minutes because I would fall asleep.”
Check out the entire video interview where Bisping does have some very complementary things to say about Munoz and how this fight is his chance to prove he belongs in title contention.
