UFC Fight Night 29 lost an interesting undercard bout Saturday when featherweight Rodrigo Damm came down with a case of kidney stones while cutting weight and was forced out of his scheduled fight with Hacran Dias.

With UFC Fight Night 29 just four days away, UFC leaders had to cancel the bout altogether. The card, set to go down Wednesday night in Brazil, will proceed with 10 fights on the card.

The news was first announced on the UFC News Twitter feed:

Reporter Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com provided more details soon after, noting that Damm had developed kidney stones during his weight cut. Kidney ailments are a common problem associated with dehydration, which is a staple of the typical fighter weight cut.

This is the second fight to fall from the UFC Fight Night 29 card. Another featherweight scrap, between Rony Jason and Jeremy Stephens, was scrapped two weeks ago after both fighters reported injuries. The fight was rescheduled Nov. 9 at UFC Fight Night 32, also set to take place in Brazil.

While a contestant on the first season of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil, Damm (11-6) had to withdraw from a fight with Godofredo Castro because of kidney issues related to weight-cutting, and was subsequently forced out of the competition

A jiu-jitsu grappler at his base, Damm is coming off perhaps the biggest win of his career, a split-decision over Mizuto Hirota at UFC on Fuel TV 10 in June.

For his opponent’s part, Dias (21-2-1) was hoping to rebound from his first loss in four years, a May decision loss to Nik Lentz.

UFC Fight Night 29 will air from Barueri, Brazil Wednesday and will air in its entirety on the Fox Sports 1 network. The evening’s main event will pit welterweight contender Demian Maia against Jake Shields.
