Georges St-Pierre may step into the Octagon for the final time at UFC 167.

Taking on welterweight powerhouse Johny Hendricks, St-Pierre finds himself entrenched in a risky bout that will push his body—and potentially his career—to the limit.

GSP’s head trainer, Firas Zahabi, recently told TVA sports (h/t Bloody Elbow) that his star pupil may call it quits on a phenomenal career if he does not feel motivated to continue.

This is a shock to fans and critics alike, as Zahabi also said as recently as March 2013 that a super fight with Anderson Silva remained a distinct possibility for GSP after his UFC 167 clash with Hendricks.

At a press conference, Zahabi said:

If he fights Hendricks, I think (GSP) could fight for longer. He could have more fights after that. If he fights Anderson Silva, I could really see that being his last fight. He’ll retire after that because there won’t be a bigger fight for him to do, I think, anymore in his career.

Zahabi has not officially retracted this statement, but his latest chat with TVA Sports certainly alludes to the fact that GSP could retire immediately following his next fight.

Until then, a hard-hitting, dangerous opponent stands in GSP’s way, and the Canadian superstar will need to show up in prime form to defend his legacy and end his stellar career on a high note, should he decide to take that route.
